We will demonstrate feet, threads, and great techniques to take your sewing skills to a new level. We ll also bring you up to date on new products we ve discovered. Members are encouraged to bring one show & tell sewing project they have made recently, and to join in the discussions by sharing thoughts and knowledge about the various topics. This is a lecture/demonstration club, with lots of fun learning. Come and gather with people who love to sew. Instructor: Millie Schwandt FEE: $50 per year (10 months); the fee is prorated, based on when you join. You can also drop in to any session for only $7; just pay when you arrive. 2 Exciting news! Our former Software Sampler class has been overhauled and updated, and is now called Software Inspirations. Come and take a walk on the inspired side using your BERNINA Embroidery Software 7. This lecture/demo class series walks you through the steps to create great projects using this very powerful embroidery software. The class includes a video and written instructions to guide you through the projects as well as class discussions and Q & A s. You take home a CD with the video lesson, Instructions and designs created for the lesson. If you don t have this software but want to know more about why you might want it, you are welcome to audit this class. Just call to reserve your spot. When you decide you just can t live without it, your $10 class fee will be applied to your purchase. Instructors: Diane Williams & Millie Schwandt Monthly Class Fee: $10 Classes are on the 4th Tuesdays and 4th Wednesdays Tuesday June 23, 6:30-8:30pm or Wednesday June 24, 10am-12pm Make Mine Plaid Create plaid effects in many different ways: grid quilting, pattern run stitch designs, wavy plaid and plaid effects with fill or applique. Tuesday 28, 6:30 8:30pm or Wednesday 22, 10am-12pm Applique 3 Ways Explore the options of each applique style: raw edge applique, cut in the hoop applique, and pre-cut applique. Tuesday 25, 6:30-8:30pm or Wednesday 26, 10am-12pm Going in Circles Work with the beautiful outline stitches in the software as well as create your own stitch patterns from scratch. Manipulate the stitches to create beautiful circular pattern stitch embroideries. Please note: no class in So, you have an embroidery machine! Yea!! Learning about stabilizers, threads, fabric choices and hooping techniques can seem daunting, but this lecture/demo series will help take the mystery away so you can tackle any project... FEARLESSLY! Each month we will present a project that illustrates a common embroidery question. In class, we also discuss methods, hints, and projects. You will take home a CD with the video, project instructions and a free embroidery design. Become empowered to overcome the fear of machine embroidery and enjoy embroidery success! Instructors: Paramount Staff Members Monthly Class Fee: $10 Classes are on the 4th Saturdays Saturday June 27, 10am 12pm Take Me With You Working with knit fabrics and cut-away stabilizers is the focus of this class. They are used to make a travel pillow which is what your little one (or you!) may need for a long trip to Grandma s house. The pocket on this comfy pillow is a great place to stash a book or a magazine, and the handle makes it easy to carry along. Saturday 25, 10am 12pm A Mug Rug for All Seasons These mug rugs are made entirely in the hoop. If you have not yet tried this embroidery technique, you will be amazed at how easy it is to create these pieced mug rugs and embroidery applique designs all in one hooping. Saturday 22, 10am 12pm Circle Around This unique fabric case in the shape of a circle closes into a half moon shape with a zipper to hold your jewelry or sewing necessities. We will explore ways to use both the sewing machine and software to stitch perfect circles for this case. Please note: no class in Page 2

3 BERNINA DesignWorks software lets you be the designer of embroidery, cutwork, paint and crystal creations. Come learn about this amazing software each quarter during this 2-hour lecture/demo class. You ll watch a lecture recorded by a BERNINA Educator, then practice the lesson while learning more tips from Millie and her samples. If you don t have DesignWorks software but want to know more about why you just gotta have it, you are welcome to audit this class. Just call to reserve your spot. Don t miss it! Tuesday 8, 10am-Noon Dingbat DesignWorks Embellish fabric with PaintWork and CrystalWork designs from graphic fonts. Use CutWork to create your own iron-on stencils. NO MESS, NO FUSS APPLIQUÉ This is a hand appliqué class devoted to using a specific and unique appliqué method taught by Glenda. This appliqué method DOES NOT use freezer paper, glue, templates, hemostats, or overlays -- hence the name "No Mess, No Fuss Appliqué". This method is highly portable and able to fit into a baggie in your purse. Beginning No Mess, No Fuss Applique is a prerequisite for Glenda s other applique classes. Instructor: Glenda Correll Class Fee: $25 Thursday 3, 9:30am-1pm POINSETTIA VASE INTERMEDIATE NO MESS, NO FUSS APPLIQUÉ This is a hand appliqué class devoted to using a specific and unique appliqué method taught by Glenda. Approximate finished size of the Poinsettia Vase wall quilt is 24 x 30 without borders (30 x 36 with borders). The Poinsettia pattern must be purchased in the Wall Quilt section of the Distinctive Pieces website: This class meets twice. 4 COUNT ON IT! Using Nancy Halvorsen s Book called Count On it, you will choose your favorite pattern, then fuse and stitch a fun, fast small wall hanging. You can join any class. Not required to come to all.. Instructor: Mickie Broy Class Fee: $21 Tuesday 21, 10am-3pm Tuesday 15, 10am-3pm WOVEN QUILT This is an easy way to make a Woven Quilt. It s jelly roll friendly. Note that tone-on -tone fabrics would make it less busy than the sample shown, if you prefer, and it would show the weave even more. These are 12 blocks that make up fast. We have the Block of the Month, and it s beautiful! This year s quilt is called Sewn Seeds and it s full of options including a new on-point setting. In this 5-month class, you will learn how to piece, applique and quilt a whole quilt (or smaller project) one block at a time, entirely in your machine s embroidery hoop. Each month you bring your USB stick to class to receive that month s designs and instructions. We will demonstrate the techniques during 1-hour lecture/demo using one of our embroidery machines, so you can go home and stitch out your blocks with confidence. Do not bring your machine to class. Show and tell of your completed block is strongly encouraged as the class progresses that s the other half of the fun! Class Requirements: you must have an embroidery machine and know how to transfer embroidery designs from a USB stick to your embroidery machine. Instructors: Diane Williams and Mickie Broy Monthly Class Fee: $30 per class ($150 for all 5 months) Fee includes designs loaded onto your USB stick (Please bring it to class each month). Make this fast and easy quilt all from 2.5 strips. This block is easier than it looks and you only need 12 blocks to finish this lap quilt. A great way to use pre-packaged 2.5 strips, or cut your own from your stash. Your quilt can be scrappy or have controlled color. You are the artist! Finished size approximately 46 x 61. 6 JANOME MEMORY CRAFT WORKBOOK SAMPLER JANOME has just published a great workbook for Memory Craft owners. Your machine came with an instruction manual, and you ve probably taken your free lessons, but this workbook will give you some hands-on experience while you explore some of the awesome, fun features as you make samples. There are several different sessions which will be offered on a Wednesday and Friday each month. Wednesday 1, 10am-1pm OR Friday, 3, 10am-1pm Wednesday Aug 12, 10am-1pm OR Friday, Aug 14, 10am-1pm SUCCESSFUL MULTI-HOOPING EMBROIDERY Have you wanted to use your embroidery machine to do a really big project but haven t felt confident about lining up the parts? Have you used you embroidery software to create a multi-hooping project and have the software-created joining points be well less than helpful? Diane learned a LOT about this recently when she made a large, continuous circle embroidery on a table topper. (You may have watched the progress of this project or have seen the finished topper on display at Paramount.) While making the project, Diane developed her own method for making sure that her design elements came together perfectly every time! Come and learn so you can be successful, too! This class is for JANOME software and BERNINA software. Please note that it s OK if your embroidery machine is not the same brand as your embroidery software. Your embroidery machine must be able to use a 5 x 7 hoop or larger. This is a 2-Part Class. 7 GARMENT PATTERN LAYOUT & CUTTING Millie is our resident Garment Expert. Her Garment Sewing Techniques classes are very popular. But it s one thing to learn how to SEW a garment, and totally another to understand how to properly layout a pattern on your fabric and cut it. That s what this class is all about! First you ll learn how to read a pattern envelope, and select a size and view. Then you ll learn to read the instruction sheet, the layout and the pattern pieces themselves. Finally, you ll attach the pattern pieces to the fabric, cut it out and mark it properly for sewing. Instructor: Millie Schwandt Class Fee: $21 Thursday 9, 10am-1pm GARMENT SEWING WORKSHOP If you ve taken Millie s Garment Construction Tips & Tricks Classes, it s time to put your samples into practical use. 8 GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CLASSES Choose the right type of class for YOU! Beginner: Whether you've never threaded a needle, you re experimenting with a sewing machine or serger, or just haven t sewn in years this is a great class for you. These simple, basic classes will increase your knowledge and skill level while you create a fun project. This class is also suitable to anyone who has additional sewing skills. Intermediate: When you have completed a number of beginning sewing projects and are looking to increase your knowledge base, choose this level of class. We focus on tools and techniques to make you an even better home sewer. Suitable for a confident beginner. Advanced: These classes cater to experienced sewers. Choose these when you want to become familiar with new and advanced types of sewing projects under the guidance of a professional. Hand Appliqué: These classes are for hand applique, not machine. Please see class descriptions for any pre-requisite or other requirements for the class. Machine Embroidery: You will either be using your embroidery machine in this class, or it is a lecture/demonstration class about machine embroidery. All brands of embroidery machines are welcome in these classes. Please be sure to ask if you have any questions. Software: Bring your laptop with the appropriate software already installed. Please be sure it s up-to-date with the most current update before coming to class (we need everyone to be on the same page ). Bring your external mouse, mouse pad, power cord, and dongle (if your software needs one). Please be sure to ask if you have any questions. How to Register: To register for a class, simply come by Paramount in person or call Class fees are due when you register. Be sure you get a supply list for each class when you pay for your class so you know what to bring. You will receive a 15% discount on any items specified on the class supply list. Please note: to comply with U.S. copyright laws, if an instructor specifies a book, embroidery design or other unique item for the class, each student must own their own copy. Refunds and Cancellations: Classes not meeting minimum enrollment will be canceled one week in advance of the class Date. If we must cancel the class for that or any other reason, we will refund your fees. We will call you if the class is cancelled. We pay our teachers for a guaranteed number of students, so if you need to cancel a class refunds will be given only if you call and cancel at least 7 days prior to the class. You are welcome to send a friend in your place if you cannot attend, but we will be unable to refund the tuition. Other information: If you d like to use one of our machines for a class, just let us know a day or two before the class. This is a great way to "test drive" a new machine. We design most of our classes to accommodate all levels of sewing skills, beginning to advanced if you have any questions about a class, please do not hesitate to ask. For all-day classes, you will have a break around noon. You may bring a lunch (we have a refrigerator & microwave) or you can purchase lunch nearby. When you take a class at Paramount, we intend to teach you the basic concepts for the class. Our goal is to provide you ample time to grasp the concepts and do part of the project. The time allowed may not be enough to finish the entire project, but you will have the knowledge needed to complete it very successfully. For their safety, we cannot allow children to attend an adult sewing class with you. And for everyone s comfort, our classroom is a fragrance-free zone. Thanks for your consideration of others. Susan will show you how to create a large block from the squares in a panel plus two other fabrics. You can also use a large-scale print large panel and break it down to create your blocks. Note: In this class, you will work on the quilt top, but we will not be actually finishing the quilt (batting, quilting, binding, etc.) during this class. You will do that on your own at home.
