SEW WHAT S NEW Edmond Quilt Guild P O BOX 1843, Edmond, OK Website : The Edmond Quilt Guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Memorial Road Church of Christ, 2221 East Memorial Road, Edmond, Oklahoma April 2017 OFFICERS: President: Kerry Fisbeck kerryfizz@sbcglobal.net Vice President Sue Esparza woodenquilt@gmail.com Secretary: Vicki Daniel vdaniel29@gmail.com Treasurer: Custodia Ewald edmondewald@hotmail.com Membership: Andrea Stallings hamm_i_am@hotmail.com Programs: Bonnie Bowman bsbowman@cox.net Communications/ Webmaster: Dottie Alexander Loving Touch Committee: Jasmine Malone malonecreations@yahoo.co Hospitality Committee: Linda Olsen Ieolsen@outlook.com 2018 Quilt Show Co-Chairs: Gloria Kreuer gkreuer@cox.net Sherry Bellack sbellack@att.net Founder s Chair: Alice Kellogg WonderLand48@cox.net At the April meeting, the Guild members will be asked to approve the proposed budget for This is a non-quilt show year, which means the Guild must operate on income from membership dues, the profit from last year s quilt show remaining in savings and, if necessary, the funds it holds in CDs from previous years. One sure way to keep from dipping into the CDs is to increase our income by having more people become members. In order to attract more members, we need for each of us to invite someone who does not belong to the Guild to come to one of our meetings. Once they see how fun the EQG members are, what great speakers we have each year, and the awesome talent in this Guild which inspires us all then I am sure they will want to join. How can they not? So I will be searching through my friends and acquaintances to see if I can find someone who quilts or is thinking about taking up quilting, and who is not a member of EQG, and invite them to come visit us sometime soon. I encourage you to invite someone also. Kerry, EQG President Mission Statement: The mission of the Edmond Quilt Guild is to preserve, teach, and share the history and art of quilting.

Volume 14 Issue 3 Page 2 SEW WHAT S NEW Secret Pal, AGAIN, was wonderful. What fun to see people checking out how full the table is in the back of the room! Hope to see more of the BOM blocks at Show and Share in April. Remember that if you have any questions on the patterns, please call Wendy at A note about t-shirts: We have deposited our digitized logo at a local monogram shop in Edmond. You now can purchase your own shirt, tote, jacket, whatever you want and take it to the shop and have the EQG logo embroidered. The cost for a 2¾-inch logo (same size as was on the previous shirts) for $15. Slightly smaller would be slightly less. You may also have a patch made that you could then sew onto something that wouldn t fit under an embroidery machine, like your back jean pocket or baseball cap, for example. More information at the April meeting with some examples. Your motto for April -- Be Somebody who makes everybody feel like a Somebody! See you at guild Sue Esparza EQG Vice-President Question? Have you paid your 2017 membership dues? If not, please do this at April s guild meeting. You don t want to miss out on anything going on in this proactive, exciting, wonderful quilt guild!! If you have not picked up your $5 you paid for a ticket to the OKC Winter Quilt Show, please see Custódia Ewald at the front table the night of April s guild. Custódia Ewald EQG Treasurer

Volume 14 Issue 4 Page 3 SEW WHAT S NEW A special thank you for Nova Montgomery, our speaker in March, for not only teaching us how to recreate the treasure known as a Cathedral Window quilt, but sharing all the deep dark secrets surrounding the Chicago World s Fair and it s Quilt Show of Kathy Kansier, quilt teacher, Judge & AQS Certified Appraiser will be conducting a workshop on April 18th, Quilts with Great Edges. She will have books, Qzark Varieties ($10) and Protecting Tomorrow s Treasures Today ($7) available for purchase after the lecture. Everyone Gloria Kreuer have spoken with is very excited to take this trip to Missouri Star Quilt Company. Quoting Gloria, I know I'm busy making lists so I will have some idea of what I want to look at! So many stores, so little time. More information will be discussed at the May meeting. However, if you have any questions please give Gloria a call. Bonnie Bowman EQG Program Chairperson

Volume 14 Issue 3 Page 4 SEW WHAT S NEW The Quilt Show is our guild's biggest fundraiser and affords us the ability to invite exceptional speakers and national experts to our meetings. But, this isn't accomplished by just the few on the quilt show committee. We all benefit from the programs, but that means everyone needs to pitch in to make the show a success. If you don't have the time or interest in being on the committee, then please contribute your skills in making something for the Artisans Market, or donating new, timely quilting related items for door prizes. And of course, making and entering your quilts in the show. As the saying goes, "All ships rise with the tide." all members benefit from our efforts. We have set the bar quite high and our attendance has grown. Keep up the good work, do what you can to support the Guild. We're counting on another Stellar show. Gloria Kreuer EQG 2018 Quilt Show Chairperson Thanks to everyone for the 34 quilts donated at the February meeting, and 18 quilts donated at the March meeting! Keep those placemats coming, too! Remember, we are working toward the goal of 250 Christmas placemats at the July meeting, so please continue to bring Christmas fabric for kits, as well as placemats if you are able!! Kits for Christmas placemats and children's quilts will be available at the April meeting. If you are unable to make a quilt or quilt top, or placemat, but would like to be involved in other ways, there are opportunities to quilt and bind these projects as well, just let us know if you are interested. We could not be successful in our efforts without your support The next Sit and Sew is Thursday, April 20, 12noon-4:00pm, Community of Christ, 1200 East Danforth. Other dates are May 18, June 22, July 20, August 17, September 21, and October 19. Thanks for all your Loving Touch contributions to our community! Jasmine and Mary EQG Loving Touch Co-Chairs

Volume 14 Issue 3 Page 6 SEW WHAT S NEW As a reminder to our new members and those who have not taken a workshop recently, the board has an approved set of policies to help you with your plans. In keeping with the EQG Mission Statement to support continuing growth and education for our members, the guild periodically offers quality workshops. Participation in these workshops not only provides opportunities to meet and study under great teachers but your support and participation helps the guild to defray the cost of speakers for guild meetings. 1. Enrollment is first come first serve. EQG Workshop Policies 2. Members are not enrolled in a workshop until the class fee has been paid. 3. Workshop fees must be paid one week before the class date. 4. No refunds will be given within one week before the class including no-shows on the day of the class. 5. Workshops usually have a kit fee that is included in the price of the class unless otherwise stated. 6. Attendees are expected to arrive minutes prior to the workshop and should be set up so that class can begin on time. If you are late to the class, the teacher is not obligated to catch you up. 7. Classes begin at 9:00 and are finished at 4:00 with a break for lunch. You may either bring your lunch or purchase it at a nearby restaurant. 8. EQG workshops are offered to guild members first but will be opened to the public one week prior to the class if it has not been filled. Class sizes vary according to the teacher s wishes. Sign-up for workshops will be available at the guild meeting beginning three meetings before the class date. ***Read the supply list carefully and follow the teacher s instructions accurately. Each teacher uses specific materials for their techniques and being sure that you have the exact requested supplies avoids frustrations and ensures a relaxing, enjoyable and successful workshop for everyone.*** Example: Misty Fuse, Steam-a-Seam, Wonder Under and Pellon non-woven fusible are all fusibles, but each has a unique characteristic that causes the teacher to choose that one.
