I hope it has provided relaxation and regeneration to all. For some of us, vacation time and for others maybe a vacation has been planned. My husband and I took a road trip through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas. We found the most delightful quilt shop in Hot Springs, South Dakota called Heart Song Quilts. They specialize in Australian Aboriginal Design fabrics, so my stash has grown again. Quilt Show is coming in 12 months are you as busy as I am? Need to get some items for the Artisan s Market done, (some are started & some are planned) and then there is that small item called a Quilt to be completed for the show (could I have an extension please----ee!). I know a lot of you are well into completing stages of quilts and deciding which ones you will submit, keep up the good work for we need lots to show. Have a Great and Safe 4th of July. Kathy The mission of the Edmond Quilt Guild is to preserve, teach and share the history and art of quilting.

7 Volume 13, Issue 7 Page 7 SEW WHAT S NEW ATTA GIRL! There is no membership report since we did not have a meeting in June. However, lots of things have happened so I will take my "membership" space and tell you about some of our members. The NQA national show was held in Little Rock, AR, this year. Some of us were able to go and some of us won some awards. First and foremost, our little guild entered last year's raffle quilt. We competed against other guilds who entered their best quilt for the Chapter Row Award. We won first place! Now who gets the ribbon? Well, since Anita Hyman owns the quilt, I guess we can be gracious and let her have the blue ribbon, BUT the $100 prize goes to the guild. Yippee! Other prize-winners were Kerry Fisbeck with a 3rd place ribbon and Lee Gray won an Honorable Mention. Alice Kellogg and Lea Alspaugh were also entrants. Fiberworks is June 5 until July 10 and is held in Tulsa this year. Every year EQG sponsors a prize for best quilt. This year the winner was Shannon Conley and she certainly deserved it. Charlotte Hickman took a Merit Award. Debi Pickens had two pieces accepted and Cherrie Hampton had a collaborative piece that was done with ceramic and fabric. It is a very interesting show this year and if you are in the Tulsa area before July 10, stop by the Living Arts Center in the Brady Art District and have a peek. SAQA, Studio Art Quilt Associates, presented "Midwest Metaphors" in Kansas City, MO through May and June of this year. Brenda Esslinger, Cherrie Hampton and Charlotte Hickman had pieces hanging in that show. Good going, ladies. Cherrie Hampton needs a whole paragraph of her own! She has become a nationally-recognized quilt artist and we are so proud that she is a member of our guild. Besides having a pieces in Fiberworks and Midwest Metaphors, the quilt she made of her granddaughter, Jillian, turning six years old (many of you have seen this quilt) is touring Europe with a SAQA exhibit. Sacred Threads in Virginia asked Cherrie if one of her "water" quilts could be part of their two-year traveling exhibit. And the National Quilt Association wrote an article about Cherrie. It is in the last quarterly journal. Check it out.
8 Volume 13 Issue Page 8 SEW WHAT S NEW Vice-President s Report Sherry Bellack Hello everyone! I hope you have all enjoyed your month off and have been participating in the Oklahoma Shop Hop! We all need to support our local quilt shops, as they are very generous in giving the Guild gift certificates for our monthly drawings; thank them when you are shopping. Our July meeting will be the date to judge our four season challenge quilts. The weather delay should have given you extra time to finish, or start your entry. I believe I have selected nice prizes for the four winners and I know everyone will be happy to see all the creative entries! We should also be thinking about the upcoming Quilt Show and the Artisan Market. I have been getting some ideas for saleable items and need to start working on them as soon as possible. Our upcoming national speakers are a direct result of the success of our last show, and the bar is set pretty high for the Guild on next year s show. Rally the troops! We shall forge ahead and gain great spoils! (I don t know where that came from, but you get the point!) Loving Touch Janice Yount I hope all of you are going to have a safe and happy time with your family and friends. I took approximately 35 placemats to Edmond meals and wheels. They were completely out. Remember the sizes for placemats are 12x18, 40x40 babies 40x60 kids. Thanks to your hard work. See everyone in July at workshop or meeting. Looking forward to meeting Jan Patek and learning her technique. Thanks Janice Sooner Quilts Quilting Supplies & Custom Longarm Quilting JANOME Michelle Schroeder 7821 S Sooner Rd Guthrie, OK
9 Volume 13, Issue 7 Page 9 SEW WHAT S NEW In an effort to answer lots of questions that people ask about workshops, the board approved a set of policies to help you with your plans. In keeping with the EQG Mission Statement to support continuing growth and education for our members, the guild periodically offers quality workshops. Participation in these workshops not only provides opportunities to meet and study under great teachers but your support and participation helps the guild to defray the cost of speakers for guild meetings. 1. Enrollment is first come first serve. EQG Workshop Policies 2. Members are not enrolled in a workshop until the class fee has been paid. 3. Workshop fees must be paid one week before the class date. 4. No refunds will be given within one week before the class including no-shows on the day of the class. 5. Workshops usually have a kit fee that is included in the price of the class unless otherwise stated. 6. Attendees are expected to arrive minutes prior to the workshop and should be set up so that class can begin on time. If you are late to the class, the teacher is not obligated to catch you up. 7. Classes begin at 9:00 and are finished at 4:00 with a break for lunch. You may either bring your lunch or purchase it at a nearby restaurant. 8. EQG workshops are offered to guild members first but will be opened to the public one week prior to the class if it has not been filled. Class sizes vary according to the teacher s wishes. Sign-up for workshops will be available at the guild meeting beginning three meetings before the class date. ***Read the supply list carefully and follow the teacher s instructions accurately. Each teacher uses specific materials for their techniques and being sure that you have the exact requested supplies avoids frustrations and insures a relaxing, enjoyable and successful workshop for everyone.*** Example: Misty Fuse, Steam-a-Seam, Wonder Under and Pellon non-woven fusible are all fusibles, but each has a unique characteristic that causes the teacher to choose that one.
