You ll learn fusible appliqué & hand blanket stitch, as well as Nancy s favorite odd technique. The project is a small potted cactus wall hanging. Fee: $30 for one 2- hour session. Fri. June 23,, or, Tues., July 25,, or, Wed. Sept. 20,. Nubin s Blackbirds-Nubin Jensen I fell in love with Barb Adams and Alma Allen's quilt "The Raven". The lady's of Blackbird Designs have created a lovely autumn quilt with really big whimsical appliqué pieces. This Block of the Month is a great one for "beginners and seasoned" quilters who want to do appliqué work. I will be doing demos each month using several different appliqué techniques that you can execute on your sewing machines. The goal is to have this quilt done and ready for use next autumn! Come join the fun! This group meets the 4th Saturday of each month, at 1:30. Fee is $50. Required book discounted. Paper Piecing 101- Nancy Landon Learn Nancy s easy approach to paper piecing. No special equipment required other than a flat head pin! A perfect skill to conquer quilt patterns with spikey pieces. Fee: $30 for one 2-hour session. Fri., June 30,, or, Tues., Aug. 29, Pineapple Sew-In: Nancy and Nubin Several years ago a fabulous antique pineapple quilt visited the shop. It was owned by Diane Shulusky and everyone who saw it loved it! Of course, both Nubin and Nancy wanted to make reproductions of this quilt and they know it will take a while to make the many, many blocks. So why not make it a party! It s always more fun to sew with others. Nubin discovered the perfect pattern for us. We ll meet the 3 rd Friday morning of each month, from, starting in February. Cost is $5 each month and there is room for 9 partyers and their machines, so sign up early. Class Codes Beginner. No quilt experience required. Confident Beginner. Easy class. 3 More Quilting Classes Needle Turn Appliqué- With Nancy Landon Whether you are a beginner or just want to share some appliqué time and improve your skills, this class is for you. We will explore traditional techniques and cover curves, points, leaves, and bias strips. $30 fee includes two 2-hour classes. Tues., July 11, 18,. Faux Piped Binding- Vicki Johnson Learn a great alternative to hand stitching your binding when you finish a quilt. This technique is completely done on the machine with a very professional looking end result. Join Vicki for a quick class that will change your life. Fee for one 2-hour class is $30. Baltimore Ladies of Tucson- If you love appliqué, especially traditional early 1800s style, please join the Baltimore Ladies of Tucson on the second Friday of each month. We share tips and techniques, and patterns! We meet at 10am. There is no fee for this get together. Thread Painting/3-D Flowers- Carol Ann Small Learn to paint/draw with free motion stitching. This class teaches free-form stitching to create landscapes and beautiful fabric flowers and leaves to embellish those landscapes. There are No Rules, No patterns, and NO mistakes! Talk about fun!! Kits will be provided at class for an additional fee. Fee for one 4-hour session is $40. Tues., Sept. 12, 10-2 Basic Machine Quilting- Brenda Smitley Learn to machine quilt like a pro! Brenda will take you through all the basics from straight line stitching to free motion quilting. Fee is $40 for one 4.5 hour session. 4 Fun Classes from Nearly Insane Block-of-the-Month Nancy and Pepper This new blocks of the month project is perfect for all the Piecers out there. And, if you want a challenge, this is for you!! The quilt has 98 blocks, all 6 inches finished. Pepper and Nancy will show you how to master the piecing and demo various techniques including paper piecing. We ll be using a book by Liz Lois who reproduced an antique quilt. This project would be equally wonderful in batiks. We ll meet the 2 nd Saturday each month, at 10am, starting in March. Fee for the BOM is $25 a year. Yes, this will probably take two years. I know,.crazy! NEW! Father Christmas Workshop-Nubin Jensen Come join the fun and think about the cool days of winter. We will be making this adorable Father Christmas Doll in his lovely quilted outfit. Be sure to stop by the shop to see him. No Doll making skills necessary! His beard is just one stitch done over and over, or you can use yarn on yours. This makes a great gift, or a great accent for your Holiday decorating. 2-day class fee is $50. Sat. July 29 and Sat,, Aug. 19, 10-3:30 The Tucson Quilters Guild 40th Anniversary Red and White Quilt Challenge In 2018, the Tucson Quilters Guild will celebrate its 40th Anniversary. There will be a Red and White Quilt Challenge to mark the occasion. The quilts can be any size, technique, or pattern, but, they can only be Red and White! The quilts will hang in the 2018 guild quilt show. Stay tuned for more information. NEW! Masters- Nancy and Pepper This will be a continuous education type class with emphasis on perfecting your applique stitch and exploring advanced techniques; which will include circles, skinny stems, bias vines, and mylar template leaves. 5 more Fun Classes & Block of the Month Clubs Oldies but Goodies BOM- Goldie s Rodeo Quilt Nancy Landon Yes we are reproducing another of Goldie Richmond s wonderful Arizona quilts. This time it s her Arizona Portholes-Papagos at Play. This is the lost quilt that we rediscovered 2 years ago. This will be a two year project with 25 blocks and is a great quilt for using some of your favorite 1930s fabrics. We meet the 1st Saturday of each month at 10:00 NEW BOM Project! Sad as it is to set Goldie Richmond s Rodeo quilt aside, we are not totally abandoning Goldie s work. Back around 1960, Goldie made a reproduction of a quilt first made in 1860 by Mrs. Bartlett. It was a lovely Baltimore style applique done in the traditional red and green pallet. As soon as I saw Goldie s version, I knew I had to make my own! I have drawn the blocks exactly as Goldie made them with only a few changes to reflect the original quilt. (Mrs. B s leaves were nicer I think) I also drafted 6 additional blocks to add to the original 12. My quilt has been modernized in that it is not a double. I mean really! Does anyone have a double bed anymore? (Actually we do, but,.. we don t sleep in it. Guests do occasionally, but,... usually alone.) The applique is quite easy. We will start our new project the first Saturday in October at the usual. I wanted to give you all a heads up because you will need 11 yards of background fabric, (for the King). We will give you 25% off of your background for this project. Hope to see you for this one. 20th Anniversary Challenge! Yes, on Nov 1, 2017, will have been open for 20 YEARS!! Featherweight Maintenance David Landon David will show you how to clean, lubricate, and adjust top & bottom tension for your Singer Featherweight machine. This get-your-hands-dirty experience is $25 and includes all supplies. Please see or call David to schedule. Hand Quilting David Landon David would be pleased to teach you traditional hand quilting basics. This class will cover marking, basting, & the hand quilt stitch. Private lessons will be scheduled during normal shop hours when you, the classroom, and David are available. $30 for one 2-hour session. On the Go! : The Row-by-Row Experience for Summer This nation-wide Shop Hop runs from June 21, through Sept. 5. Visit any participating shop and get a free row pattern; they cannot be mailed or ed. Kits include a pattern and are only available for sale in the shops. Patterns and kits available between June 21 and Sept 5. Prize of 25 fat quarters is awarded to the first person in each participating shop, presenting a complete quilted, bound, and labeled quilt containing at least 8 different rows.
