The Edmond Quilt Guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Memorial Road Church of Christ, 2221 East Memorial Road, Edmond, Oklahoma President s Report- Nancy Forrest NQA Chapter OK871 On Saturday, October 25th, five EQG members ran a booth at Edmond s Fall Festival and helped over 250 children make trick-or-treat bags. The kids picked out fused shapes cats, bats, pumpkins, autumn leaves, and moons and guild members fused them to brown paper bags that had been donated by Crest Market. The kids loved it: we became somewhat of a bottleneck at the festival because (1) we were popular and, (2) it took about ten seconds to fuse each bag. We had quilts on the one of the tables and hanging as a backdrop for our activity; our EQG banner hung above. We had the EQG brochure available for the adults and our business card with the basic information about our meeting. While the kids were getting their bags, adults inquired about the guild some saying they did not know Edmond had a quilt guild! A couple of people asked about quilt restoration and one expressed interest in buying one of the quilts hanging behind us. Even though it was a hot, hot day for a fall festival, all of us who participated felt our contribution to it was a big success, not only because the children enjoyed it, but because it was good public relations. We did not do this to get new members; if we do, that is a side benefit. It was an opportunity to give to the Edmond community and, from the comments we received, our participation was appreciated. Those of us who worked the festival really enjoyed it! Thank you to those who donated fabric and fused and cut the shapes. I know it was not a small effort! Thank you to Wendy Wells, Sherry Bellack, Gloria Kreuer, Lee Gray, and Judy Elliott. And thank you to Alice Kellogg, Gloria Kreuer, Sandy Sheldon, and Shirley Weiss who worked at the festival. To all of you, we could not have done it without you! So, as we embark on the month of November, as a 4-year old dressed as a Jedi knight said to me at the tail end of the festival, May the Force be with you!" Nancy

Sherry sent me her article for this month s newsletter before she left on vacation. Kudos to her for thinking ahead. Unfortunately, I somehow lost her article. I have searched every folder and then some. It is not to be found. We ll hear from Sherry double next month. Joyce Communications Chair

3 Volume 12, Issue 11 Page 3 SEW WHAT S NEW Program Report Judy Elliott What a blast it was to have Lola Jenkins back again to EQG. She has come a long way in those ten years and so have we!! November 18th will be Eileen Urbanek helping us get re-excited about our stash. Old projects we may have laying around along with all those fat quarters we couldn't resist but don't go with anything else, and all that other "stuff" taking up space. How do we get re-excited about finishing old projects? Or using that ugly fabric? Eileen is here to help us out. ****Her workshop - "Farm House Window Table Runner" will be addressing the basics of paperpiecing! She has a great kit that has several different design elements that require paper piecing. She will guild you through the process. At the end of the workshop, you will be a more confident paper-piecer! You will need to purchase the kit separately via internet or Savage Quilters. Cost: $40 to the guild. You will need to get the two kits (about $15) prior to the workshop. Once you sign up, I will give you the website for the kits. Only a few slots left. If interested call me! December 16th, 2014 will be our annual holiday party!! Wa Hoo!!! Coming Up 2015 Our first few months will be some local fun, just in case the weather works against us. Workshops will be planned for 2015 but have seemed to have worked out better for the speakers coming in the later part of the year. Stay tuned for that!! January 20th, 2015 will be the "Iron Quilters", a full day sit-n-sew, from 9am until 8pm. almost 12 hours of sewing for those so inclined. Lee Gray is planning an easy mystery quilt for everyone that comes. She will present it in the morning and also from 7-9pm for those that come at night. I have had a sneak peak. it's really fun and can make a beautiful quilt when completed. It is worth the while to come! Or just come and sew on your own project and enjoy the fun. How many of you remember the first "Iron Quilters" event we had?? February 17th, 2015 will be Sherry Meeks from Guthrie. She will be talking about how "Everything old is new again!" She will be taking another look at modern quilting and helping us draw some conclusions about our general approach to quilting. Those "modern quilters" aren't so different from those "traditional quilters" after all! March 17th, 2015 will be Dick Cooper from the Plains Cotton Cooperative Association. He is going to share how that fuzzy, yet thorny plant has come to mean so much to us. March 21st, 2015 is the next National Quilt Day. We will be planning something for this so stay tuned for the details! As always, if anyone has suggestions, please feel free to contact Cherrie Hampton as she assumes the role of program chair for the next two years.

4 Volume 12, Issue Page 4 SEW WHAT S NEW Membership Alice Kellogg Lola Jenkins entertained 85 members and 4 visitors at our last meeting. What a hoot she is and it was so nice that we could pay her this time. We were just getting started and so was she when we last heard her speak. She has really grown in her skills and made a nice niche for herself in the quilting/art world. I Want It; I Need It Joyce Wolf is looking for a Nancy Halvorsen fabric from her Tidings collection from several years ago. It s a tone-ontone cream color called Celtic Cream. Thanks to all of you for donating the blankets and especially Christmas placemats. Hope you all are feverishly working to complete your placemats. We have approximately 75 and we need 200 (DEADLINE NOV. 18 TH ). I know we can do this. Remember place mats 14X18, Baby 40X40 and Kids 40x60. Enjoy the cooler weather. I m going camping this weekend. 8 Volume 12, Issue 11 Page 8 SEW WHAT S NEW 2016 Quilt Show Sue Esparza and Wendy Wells Our 2016 Edmond Quilt Show is just around the corner!! Ok, take a breath; you have some time yet to create that masterpiece! Since Wendy talked me into this last time, and agreed to help, we had a great time putting the show together and working with everyone. SO --- here we go again. We have been talking and thinking and talking some more. We have not yet pinned down a date and exact location but are working on that. As soon as that is firm, we can start advertising and contacting vendors. We had vendor inquiries the week of our 2014 show; they loved it and want to be there! For now, be thinking of ideas for your works of art. Truly every entry was special this past show, each quilt has a story and each quilt is loved. And aren t we all saner for being quilters?!
