It is truly amazing the projects that are shown, everything from simple patterns to very detailed pieced quilts. Several members have gone to shows in other cities and I know they will share what they have learned and experienced. Our program speaker took us from seed to Jeans with the cotton that is grown in Oklahoma and surrounding states. This was quite an education in cotton, and how it makes an impact on the economy of our state and country. I just want to say thank you for acquiring this speaker for us. Please make an effort to regularly attend meetings, the speakers lined up for the rest of the year will be informative, provide interesting techniques, show their quilts, and stories. Treasurer Patti will have the finalized budget in April for the membership to vote on so please make sure you are at the April meeting. A new Hospitality Committee Chairman has been appointed, Linda Olsen, If you have any needs please contact her or any of the board members listed in the newsletter. Mission Statement: The mission of the Edmond Quilt Guild is to preserve, teach and share the history and art of quilting. I still have the St. John s Bay Black fringed scarf that was found after the Feb. meeting, it is wanting to return home so please contact me. Happy Easter!

Well it is officially springtime and now I can begin assessing if my homeowners insurance is going to cover my abundance of stash and sewing machines! Tis the season for our severe weather outbreaks; and it was increasingly difficult to not run and get my sewing machine before getting into the shelter! But now to recap our March meeting! We had a very informative speaker, Mr. Cooper, who gave us an inside perspective of what it takes to grow and process the cotton that we depend upon for our craft. I do appreciate all that goes into this more, but I still have a hard time justifying the increasing cost of buying our yardage! Everyone was very intent on learning more and the questions posed were probably surprising to him, as they were very insightful and more than likely unexpected for a quilter s audience. We also had the National Quilt Day sit and sew, and while our group was small, we enjoyed visiting and seeing the projects everyone was working on. Thank you for all those who attended and those who shopped our local quilt stores on that day. Keep working on your four seasons quilts for the May meeting. (You know which season you are! Don t make me explain it again!) In the meantime, I am busy looking for prizes for every category. See you in April. Stay safe, turn off your machine during lightning storms.

She and her fellow artist Diana Callahan will be presenting a program which has an unusual focus on the expression of grief. The quilt that grew from what seemed to be a very dark time in the lives of the members of Uncommon Threads, her fiber art group, is a thought provoking creation that celebrates the lives of its makers. When a member of Uncommon Threads was diagnosed with breast cancer, she suggested the group make a bereavement quilt. The idea grew into a very special coffin quilt entitled Good Grief. *WORKSHOP* The Jan Patek workshop, Needle Turn Applique`, sign-up sheet will be available at the next guild meeting. The fee is $75. which includes a kit that she has personally assembled. I am working on the 2016 and 2017 Program Calendars, so please contact me with your suggestions for speakers and workshops. I delivered 20 quilts to the Hope center in Edmond. Be sure to bring in brown bag challenge to April meeting. Can t wait to see them all. Remember they need to be quilted and bound. These quilts will go to Infant Crisis Center and OU Children s Hospital. We need to start working on placemats. I haven t delivered any since December and I know that they have to had new clients since then. Placemat sizes are 12x18, small kiddos 40X40, larger kids 40x60ish. I have plenty kits made up with bright and shiny new fabrics. Bill Crye May 20, 1931 March 5, 2015 Bill Crye passed away on March 5, Bill served in the U.S. Navy and retired from Westinghouse after 30 years of service. Bill transitioned into working with fabric and quickly became well known in the quilting community in Oklahoma City. There are quilts he produced in many homes throughout the state and nation. He was involved in making quilts for the Wounded Warrior Project and also lap quilts for local nursing homes. He will be missed. 10 Volume 13, Issue 4 Page 10 SEW WHAT S NEW In an effort to answer lots of questions that people ask about workshops, the board approved a set of policies to help you with your plans. In keeping with the EQG Mission Statement to support continuing growth and education for our members, the guild periodically offers quality workshops. Participation in these workshops not only provides opportunities to meet and study under great teachers but your support and participation helps the guild to defray the cost of speakers for guild meetings. 1. Enrollment is first come first serve. EQG Workshop Policies 2. Members are not enrolled in a workshop until the class fee has been paid. 3. Workshop fees must be paid one week before the class date. 4. No refunds will be given within one week before the class including no-shows on the day of the class. 5. Workshops usually have a kit fee that is included in the price of the class unless otherwise stated. 6. Attendees are expected to arrive minutes prior to the workshop and should be set up so that class can begin on time. If you are late to the class, the teacher is not obligated to catch you up. 7. Classes begin at 9:00 and are finished at 4:00 with a break for lunch. You may either bring your lunch or purchase it at a nearby restaurant. 8. EQG workshops are offered to guild members first but will be opened to the public one week prior to the class if it has not been filled. Class sizes vary according to the teacher s wishes. Sign-up for workshops will be available at the guild meeting beginning three meetings before the class date. ***Read the supply list carefully and follow the teacher s instructions accurately. Each teacher uses specific materials for their techniques and being sure that you have the exact requested supplies avoids frustrations and insures a relaxing, enjoyable and successful workshop for everyone.*** Example: Misty Fuse, Steam-a-Seam, Wonder Under and Pellon non-woven fusible are all fusibles, but each has a unique characteristic that causes the teacher to choose that one.
