Edmond Quilt Guild P O BOX 1843, Edmond, OK Website: edmondquiltguild@yahoo.com The Edmond Quilt Guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Memorial Road Church of Christ, 2221 East Memorial Road, Edmond, Oklahoma NQA Chapter OK871 President s Report Alice Kellogg This guild would not exist were it not for volunteerism. It is the heart and soul of this guild. And there s something for just about everybody...short-term opportunities to help at the quilt show or even just help hold quilts during a meeting, and more long-term opportunities, like serving on the board of the Edmond Quilt Guild. We are always looking for volunteers for something and we are extremely grateful when people step forward. So, if you have ever thought about being on the board, now is the time to volunteer. We have two board positions that will be open for 2012, starting in January: Communications (newsletter, etc.) and Membership. These positions have two-year terms. You would not take office until January and, assuming you volunteer for one by the fall, there would be plenty of time to learn the job before taking office. This is much better than going into the job blind. The open positions are Membership and Newsletter. Both position require computer skills, but they are easy to learn. For the newsletter, a command of the English language is a must. If "board work" is not to your liking, consider volunteering for the Quilt Show Committee. This is FUN work. This is an opportunity to get to know other guild members and make new friends. Please consider volunteering and helping the guild grow. Happy Stitching and see you at the picnic! Alice Kellogg

2 Volume 9, Issue 6 Page 2 SEW WHAT S NEW Vice-President s Report Becky Beierle Our May speaker, Brenda Esslinger, gave us some really good tips for attending the upcoming June (9-11th) shop hop. To recap a few key points: Pick your travel buddies wisely, plan your route, prepare a budget before you leave and bring only cash to hold yourself to it, and make a list of things you are looking for so you don t get distracted. These are great suggestions! The prizes sound wonderful and for those of you going, we look forward to your travel tales and shopping exploits. Drive Safely, Becky Beierle Studio Tour Report Lee Gray We had 67 quilters attend our EQG Studio Tour. Everyone seemed to have lots of fun and hopefully got several ideas on ways to organize their sewing studios. The five hostesses agreed the tour was a great success. The drawing for the Studio Tour quilters who made all 5 locations was at the May guild meeting. Here s hoping that after my presentation you re armed with all the info you need to make this year s hop a huge success. In June we will be having our annual guild picnic. Since we cannot have our regular meeting room during the month of June, the picnic will be held in the yard at Sooner Quilts. The shop will be open that night so be sure to bring some extra spending money along with a lawn chair and a side dish or dessert to share. July will feature EQG s very own Marilyn Karper with her advice on how to hire a long arm quilter. In August we will be hosting Sabrina Deihl who will be sharing her vast knowledge of threads with us. In September our speaker will be Charlotte Wright of Stillwater. The program is titled Creative Ideas for Quilting and Embroidery. In addition to a trunk show of quilts made using a variety of techniques she will demonstrate the use of various stabilizers and creative ideas that can be used in quilts and other projects. Our October speaker will be Mickey Depre. Her lecture will be Colorific Quilts and her workshop will be Colorforms for Grownups Designing your own fabric. The fee for this workshop will also be $25 plus you will need to purchase a $17 kit. The supply list can be found here. November s program is still up in the air, but December will be our annual Christmas party. Brenda Esslinger

4 Volume 9, Issue 6 Page 4 SEW WHAT S NEW Communications Nancy Forrest Thanks to those of you who keep me informed about upcoming quilt shows and events. I am grateful that there are so many of you in the quilting loop who pick up flyers on your shopping adventures and forward them on to me. I d be lost without ya! I ll do my best to include information on entry deadlines so those of you who enter shows can garner more ribbons. If necessary, I ll even send out a special blast if there is a short time frame, as happened in May when I inadvertently mislaid my information the Grand Lake O the Cherokees show in July. So I sent a blast. If this is overkill, please let me know. Also, since I am out until September, Sew Who Sews? will not resume until the October issue. So if you see someone new at a meeting, get to know them! Nancy Forrest EQG Braggin Board I hope you caught the May issue of Community Connections. This is a small newspaper that serves Edmond, Deer Creek and Arcadia. They ran an article featuring our own Bonnie Bowman, Judy Elliott, Lee Gray and Nancy Forrest. This group of ladies have been making Civil War Quilts and the article is partially about the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War. There was also a striking picture of these four EQG members and a couple of Civil War quilts that they have made. Good going, ladies! The 2011 Membership Roster went out over the weekend. I have some s that was returned. I will be working on those this coming weekend. Also, as you can see by the fabrics we have available for the members our stash is looking rather sad. Your donations of fabrics would be most appreciated and is tax deductable. Just ask for a receipt. Doesn t matter if you have started or are almost finished with the project, we can take it from there. Shine on Vicky In Our Thoughts As you may recall, Anita Hyman, who is a member of our guild and also a member of the Rotary Rebels small group, was involved in a serious accident April 26th as she was leaving the Rebels meeting.. Someone "t-boned" her while she was heading home. She sustained significant injuries, including a pelvic fracture, broken ribs and injuries to organs, and a concussion. I am happy to report her recovery has been faster than had been anticipated. She is currently in physical therapy and making progress in her recuperation. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers!
