The Edmond Quilt Guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Memorial Road Church of Christ, 2221 East Memorial Road, Edmond, Oklahoma President s Report Kathy Opalka January 2016 President s Report Happy New Year! NQA Chapter OK871 As President, I would like to say Thank you to Cherrie, for a great Christmas/Holiday Party and Speaker at our December meeting. Alright who has the pictures? Really, I would love to have some copies of the pictures. We made it through the Holidays with little bad weather which is a miracle and always a plus, just kidding (this was originally written 12/21/15), hope everyone is safe and warm. I think we now need to be prepared for what may come, weather wise. Thus, we need to have projects ready to sew, sew, sew, if we are stuck inside. The Quilt Show is only 6 months away and there are quilts to be made and items for the Artisan Market to be completed. NOTICE: Change in DATE for January Sit and Sew. We had to move the date to JANUARY 26 th, 2016 from 9:00 to 9:00, please come and join us as we pay our dues, work on projects, and learn new things. On Friday, December 18 th, 2015, I received an from Jessica Olea of The Savage Quilter in Oklahoma City like many of our guild members. Her Mom, Debbie, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma after 6 months of infections, back pain, feeling worn out and having no energy. She had been seen by four different doctors who never did any blood work, x-rays or CT scan after repeated symptoms and complaints. Please keep Debbie and her family in your thoughts and prayers. We are checking to see if we can do anything as a guild to help. Let this be a reminder to not let signs or symptoms of abnormal problems or things go unattended to. The retreat is held at Sequoyah Lodge (formally Western Hills) in Wagoner, OK. The retreat is March 18-20, The featured speaker is Gail Garber. OQSO has changed the fees paid to teachers. For an all day class, the teacher will receive $40.00 per student. A half-day class is $25.00 per student. An all day class is 6 hours, 1/2 day class is 3 hours. It has been exciting to organize our speakers and workshops and look forward to seeing each of you at our monthly meetings. I want to say a special thanks to our EQG Board members who have so faithfully supported my efforts and helped me to jump the hurdles that came along in order to facilitate a smooth monthly program. We will have some fabric samples for your use and patterns and ideas. There will be a few demos of techniques you can use to make items. You are welcome to bring your own ideas, supplies, and fabrics for your items you are making. Bring your sewing machine and class size iron if you need it and an extension cord. I watched grown women turn into little girls as they tried on and wore hats from Mrs. Ferguson's collection. What a treat! And speaking of treats, the food was plentiful and delish (in the words of Rachel Ray). We had 75 ladies enjoy the music, food, and hats. Thanks, Cherrie, for a great party and to her daughter, Kim Arnold, for the wonderful live music. My reign as Membership has come to an end. Be patient with the new Membership person, Andrea Stallings, as she learns the new job. January is the Sew-In and you can pay your dues to me, Andrea, or Patti Hamm, but we will not have membership cards until the February meeting. It has been fun doing this job. I could hardly call it a job since it was not "work" to me. Alice Kellogg Atta Girl Correction The internet will air Charlotte Hickman's demonstrations a day earlier than we announced. Watch for show #1805 on February 28th. In case you missed the previous announcement, this is Ricky Tims and Alex Anderson's online show. We are so proud that our own Charlotte was asked to do a show for them. So, Atta Girl again, Charlotte!

7 Volume 1 Issue Page 7 SEW WHAT S NEW Quilt Show Reality Check Even though I will no longer be membership, you will still be hearing from me regarding the upcoming quilt show. Display is my job and that is the person responsible for receiving your entry forms, IDing the quilts, and then hanging the show. I will be needing help when it is show time. I also have the raffle quilt, which has been neglected lately. It is time to get busy and start traveling with the quilt and sell tickets. We have already been to COQG and I plan to take it to Green Country Guild (Tulsa). If you are a member of a group or club that might be interested in winning our beautiful, modern-style quilt, get in touch with me so we can make arrangements to show it off and sell some Loving Touch Janice Yount HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE Enjoyed the Christmas party. Thanks to everyone for donating placemats. We met our goal! Placemat sizes are 14X18, babies 40X40, Kids 40ish by 65. We should be hopefully starting with new leaders after the first of the year. 8 Volume 1, Issue 13A Page 8 SEW WHAT S NEW In an effort to answer lots of questions that people ask about workshops, the board approved a set of policies to help you with your plans. In keeping with the EQG Mission Statement to support continuing growth and education for our members, the guild periodically offers quality workshops. Participation in these workshops not only provides opportunities to meet and study under great teachers but your support and participation helps the guild to defray the cost of speakers for guild meetings. 1. Enrollment is first come first serve. EQG Workshop Policies 2. Members are not enrolled in a workshop until the class fee has been paid. 3. Workshop fees must be paid one week before the class date. 4. No refunds will be given within one week before the class including no-shows on the day of the class. 5. Workshops usually have a kit fee that is included in the price of the class unless otherwise stated. 6. Attendees are expected to arrive minutes prior to the workshop and should be set up so that class can begin on time. If you are late to the class, the teacher is not obligated to catch you up. 7. Classes begin at 9:00 and are finished at 4:00 with a break for lunch. You may either bring your lunch or purchase it at a nearby restaurant. 8. EQG workshops are offered to guild members first but will be opened to the public one week prior to the class if it has not been filled. Class sizes vary according to the teacher s wishes. Sign-up for workshops will be available at the guild meeting beginning three meetings before the class date. ***Read the supply list carefully and follow the teacher s instructions accurately. Each teacher uses specific materials for their techniques and being sure that you have the exact requested supplies avoids frustrations and insures a relaxing, enjoyable and successful workshop for everyone.*** Example: Misty Fuse, Steam-a-Seam, Wonder Under and Pellon non-woven fusible are all fusibles, but each has a unique characteristic that causes the teacher to choose that one.

9 Volume 1, Issue 13A Page 9 SEW WHAT S NEW We are excited to announce our newest exhibition Quilts and Color from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, which will be on view at OKC Museum of Art November 7, February 7, Influenced by twentieth-century art developments such as abstraction, optical art, and the color field movement, Paul Pilgrim and Gerald Roy collected quilts from the late nineteenth to mid-twentieth centuries with similarly bold and striking designs. Quilts and Color takes viewers on a journey of nearly fifty American quilts from the Pilgrim/Roy Collection, all with dynamic designs from visionary quilt-makers who explored unconventional color interactions and relationships. Special programming, such as in-gallery, hands-on activities, a gallery guide, and family workshops, will offer visitors the chance to explore color, shape, and pattern. 10 Volume 1, Issue 13A Page 10 SEW WHAT S NEW Charity, Companionship & Comfort- A Historic Quilt Show at the Seay Mansion New Exhibit Three Months Only November January 2016 Opening Reception The Chisholm Trail Museum has pulled from its archives of nearly 40 quilts to share these treasure-troves of history and art with the public. On display, against the backdrop of the territorial governor s home, will be quilts as old as 1840 s, Log cabin quilts from the 1850 s, A WWI Red cross quilt, A turn of the century charm quilt, Friendship quilts from the 1920 s and 30 s, a WPA quilt from 1935 and many more. Activities in January will include : Special showings of the 9 part program Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics Classes for children and adults lectures and more. January 16, Document your Quilt day- Let us help you document your quilt! Bring a quilt, antique or new and let us help you identify it for generations to come.
