It s that time: Fall is on the way, which means it is time for Fall Retreat. After a few delays, the New Lodge at Lake Murray is ready for us. I am looking forward to sharing time with all of you. When we previewed the facility, the one thing that made me say wow!, was the lake. Each room has a balcony, so coffee on the water will be a treat. Even in the restaurant, you have the option of sitting outside by the lake. The lighting in the rooms appear to be ok, but you may want to bring a nice lamp just in case. If you don t have a lamp, be ready to buy tickets we will have one as well as Aurifil Thread at the raffle table. I am looking forward to our featured teacher Karen Linduska. She uses the fancy stitches on your machines to create beautiful quilts. In addition, our Oklahoma teachers have fun classes on tap. I appreciate each teacher that is willing to bring their craft to us. This will also be my last retreat as President. It has been my pleasure to serve on the OQSO Board. We have a great group of quilters with many years of retreats to enjoy. I look forward to seeing all of you in September. 2 Page 2 VICE PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Oklahoma Quilters State Organization It is almost time for another retreat at Lake Murray. I visited the new lodge and it is so nice and you can look out over the lake from almost any area of the lodge. We have several classes offered this time so please consider taking a class and supporting our teachers. Sue Adkison KAREN LINDUSKA FEATURE TEACHER Ever since I was a little girl I was always making something out of fabric. I started doing fiber work at the age of eight making doll clothes and knitting. At the age of ten I started to do bead work and hand embroidery. In high school I was lucky to have an art teacher with a fiber arts background who helped me to branch out and explore new materials. I developed my discipline for detail and the long hours that fiber art requires while working on those high school projects. After high school I attended the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale majoring in fiber arts, studying under M. Joan Lintault. It was there that I was encouraged to explore even more techniques, materials, and ideas. I created the foundation of my style during these years, that is still recognizable in my work today. During the past thirty five years I have received numerous awards and recognition for my work which has been exhibited in publications, TV, art fairs, galleries and private commissions all over the United States, Japan and Europe. Today I make my home in beautiful southern Illinois, with my husband and my 4 legged kids.

Oklahoma Quilters State Organization Calling All Teachers!!! Please bring a sample of something you would like to teach at the Spring Retreat. This would help to make class selections and hopefully encourage others to sign up for your class. Retreat Raffle Carol Capshaw saw these lights at a retreat and was really impressed with the light they gave off, and being able to twist the light where you need it. Open Sewing Room Etiquette The tables in the open sewing room have been arranged to make navigating easier and SAFER! Please leave the tables as they are situated. If you have a personal sewing table, please make sure it does not block an aisle. Let s be courteous to our fellow quilters. Remember, there are many people who are sewing in the free sewing area, let s be courteous and understanding, it will There will be 2 boxes to choose from, one is neutral colors and the other bright colors. You will enjoy stitching with this fine, Egyptian cotton thread be crowded. Two people to a table. Only one machine per person should be setup at a table at any time. When taking a class please clear your table in case someone else is looking for a spot to set up after their class is over. Personal small tables must be kept out of aisles. Shopper Alert!!!! Word has it that the Bernina Shop in Ardmore has closed. You will just have to spend your extra shopping money with our vendors! Don t for get to check out KEY GROCERY & QUILTS 116 E. Broadway St Ardmore, Ok HAPPY SHOPPING!! Bring small low voltage irons. We don t want to trip the breakers. Carol Capshaw will bring her large cutting mat and ironing board for the general sewing room. Everyone is welcome to use these. Be sure not to set up in a room where a class is scheduled. You ll have to move! Have Fun!
