2 BED BUGS THE PEST,THE PROBLEM, MONITORING AND CONTROL Bed Bugs are a majr prblem acrss the wrld. They are a persistent pest and are difficult t detect in mst situatins. They nrmally feed at night, biting and taking a bld meal frm sleeping mammals, including man. Bed Bugs can cause revulsin, anxiety, stress, lack f sleep and a very visible reactin t their repeated bites. Increased internal and internatinal travel is thught t facilitate their spread as Bed Bugs are readily transprtable in luggage and clthing but mvement f infested bedding and furniture can equally play their part. Bed Bugs are mst frequently fund in high density, high ccupancy and high turnver accmmdatin such as htels, mtels, hstels, drmitries, shelters, apartment cmplexes, tenements and prisns. Such infestatins are nt always a reflectin f pr hygiene r bad husekeeping but can mean n mre than a previus ccupant has cme int cntact with Bed Bugs at an earlier time. As they can als infest aircraft, ships, trains and buses it is nly t easy t d s. Adult Bed Bugs are fast mving, reddish-brwn, val-shaped insects, apprximately 1/5 inch (5mm) lng. Their flat shape enables them t hide in cracks and crevices until emerging when ready t feed. After a bld feed, the insects becme swllen. Bed Bugs are difficult t eradicate and as a result it is critical t detect them as sn as pssible, befre an infestatin becmes established and threatens rm ccupancy, incme, reputatin, damages csts, custmer return rates and the health and well being f peple expsed. 3 PLACEMENT AND NUMBER REQUIRED Mnitring Mde Fr mnitring, place a minimum f tw activated BB ALERT'Munits in the rm vernight, fr example beneath each end f the bed r mattress r under the bedside furniture. After a minimum f 12 hurs (maximum 24 hurs), inspect the unit by remving the unit lid and examining the glued area f the unit base fr caught insects. Repeat fr each rm n a mnthly cycle t mnitr cntinued Bed Bug-free cnditins. The unit may be re-used up t three times with replacement BB ALERT'M ACTIVATOR sachets if there are n insects caught n the previus uses. Additinal BB ALERT'M ACTIVATOR sachets are available as a separate item. Use the writeable area n the underside f the unit base t recrd the lcatin, rm number, date and catch detail. Prblem Management BB ALERT'M can als be used as a pesticide-free cntributin t ther management methds. Eradicatin and Cntrl treatment shuld nly be carried ut by a qualified Pest Cntrl Cmpany. Prepare the unit as abve and place at least five activated BB ALERT'M units in areas f knwn activity. After a minimum f 12 hurs (maximum 24 hurs) examine the units as detailed abve. Repeat n a daily basis t check prgress and assist in targeting future treatment. Once the prblem is under cntrl, cntinue in Mnitring Mde n a mnthly cycle t check fr re-infestatin r hatching f eggs missed during treatment. Carefully pen ne side nly f the BB ALERT'MACTIVATORtwin sachet pack supplied. Take ne BB ALERT'MACTIVATORsachet nly frm the twin pack. Gently shake the BB ALERT'MACTIVATORsachet. DO NOT OPEN THE SACHET. Place the BB ALERT'MACTIVATORsachet n the adhesive area in the middle f the BB ALERT'Munit base. Replace the unit lid aligning the lcatr pins n the base with the indents in the unit lid. Page 5
