BASIC REQUIREMENTS AND USER SAFETY! - The manufacturer s not responsble for any damages caused by napproprate nstallaton, not mantanng the proper envronmental condtons and usng the unt contrary to ts assgnment. - Installaton should be conducted by qualfed personnel. Durng nstallaton all avalable safety requrements should be consdered. The ftter s responsble for executng the nstallaton accordng to ths manual, local safety and EMC regulatons. - If the devce s equpped wth PE connector, t should be connected to PE wre. Otherwse PE wre should be connected to GND connector. - The unt must be properly set-up, accordng to the applcaton. Incorrect confguraton can cause defectve operaton, whch can lead to unt damage or an accdent. - If n the case of a unt malfuncton there s a rsk of a serous threat to the safety of people or property addtonal, ndependent systems and solutons to prevent such a threat must be used. - The unt uses dangerous voltage that can cause a lethal accdent. The unt must be swtched off and dsconnected from the power supply pror to startng nstallaton of troubleshootng (n the case of malfuncton). - Neghbourng and connected equpment must meet the approprate standards and regulatons concernng safety and be equpped wth adequate overvoltage and nterference flters. - Do not attempt to dsassemble, repar or modfy the unt yourself. The unt has no user servceable parts. Defectve unts must be dsconnected and submtted for repars at an authorzed servce centre. 3

In such cases forced coolng of the unt must be consdered (e.g. by usng a ventlator). The unt s desgned for operaton n an ndustral envronment and must not be used n a household envronment or smlar. 2. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS Man task of SPP-N118 s measurement of nstantaneous flow (flow rate), and countng of total flow (e.g. passage of flud or gas), The devce can be used as regulator, to control ndustral process. Measurement of nstantaneous flow can be ndcated n range: 0 to 9999 (plus decmal pont) and can be expressed n combnaton of two cubc measures (ltre and m 3 ) and three tme measures (second, mnute, hour). Total flow can be ndcated n range from to m 3 wth maxmum resoluton of L. SPP-N118 can cooperate wth flow sensors wth current output (0-20mA or 4-20mA). Sensors can be powered from sensor supply output (stablzed, 24VDC +5%, -10% 100mA). The devce s equpped n 1 or 2 relay outputs or OC-type outputs, whch can be drven due to nstantaneous flow, total flow or batcher counter value. Optonally SPP-N118 wth one relay output (or OC-type output) can be equpped wth actve current output, passve solated current output or actve voltage output. Buld n RS 485 nterface enables access to all nternal regsters, and supports MODBUS RTU communcaton protocol. The controller can be ordered n two power supply versons. The devce has 5 buttons beng used for man presets programmng. To get hgh protecton level, the keyboard s mounted under transparent cover. To allow user to change presets wthout openng the cover, an IR sensor s mounted. Remote controller contans basc functons to handle menu of the devce (note, that remote controller s not a part of the SPP- N118 set t s an addtonal equpment). Addtonal features: alarm preset; alarm sgnal s released when measurement exceeds measurement range drect access to relays thresholds settngs, wthout password, batcher mode. 4

Ths s a class A unt. In housng or a smlar area t can cause rado frequency nterference. In such cases the user can be requested to use approprate preventve measures. 4. DEVICE INSTALLATION The unt has been desgned and manufactured n a way assurng a hgh level of user safety and resstance to nterference occurrng n a typcal ndustral envronment. In order to take full advantage of these characterstcs nstallaton of the unt must be conducted correctly and accordng to the local regulatons.! - Read the basc safety requrements on page 3 pror to startng the nstallaton. - Ensure that the power supply network voltage corresponds to the nomnal voltage stated on the unt s dentfcaton label. - The load must correspond to the requrements lsted n the techncal data. - All nstallaton works must be conducted wth a dsconnected power supply. - Protectng the power supply clamps aganst unauthorzed persons must be taken nto consderaton UNPACKING After removng the unt from the protectve packagng, check for transportaton damage. Any transportaton damage must be mmedately reported to the carrer. Also, wrte down the unt seral number on the housng and report the damage to the manufacturer. 8 ø8.4 User manual - FLOW METER SPP-N ASSEMBLY!! - Dsconnect the power supply pror to startng assembly. - Check the connectons are wred correctly pror to swtchng the unt on. To nstall devce on the wall, a pnholes should be made. Fgure 4.1 presents dmensons of the devce and dstances between holes. The back sde of the devce has four mountng holes. CONNECTION METHOD Cauton! - Installaton should be conducted by qualfed personnel. Durng nstallaton all avalable safety requrements should be consdered. The ftter s responsble for executng the nstallaton accordng to ths manual, local safety and EMC regulatons. - The unt s not equpped wth an nternal fuse or power supply crcut breaker. Because of ths an external tme-delay cut-out fuse wth mnmal possble nomnal current value must be used (recommended bpolar, max. 2A) and a power supply crcut-breaker located near the unt. In the case of usng a monopolar fuse t must be mounted on the phase cable (L). - The power supply network cable dameter must be selected n such a way that n the case of a short crcut of the cable from the sde of the unt the cable shall be protected aganst destructon wth an electrcal nstallaton fuse. - Wrng must meet approprate standards and local regulatons and laws. 8

9 ! - In order to secure aganst accdental short crcut the connecton cables must be termnated wth approprate nsulated cable tps. - Tghten the clampng screws. The recommended tghtenng torque s 0.5 Nm. Loose screws can cause fre or defectve operaton. Over tghtenng can lead to damagng the connectons nsde the unts and breakng the thread. - In the case of the unt beng ftted wth separable clamps they should be nserted nto approprate connectors n the unt, even f they are not used for any connectons. - Unused clamps (marked as n.c.) must not be used for connectng any connectng cables (e.g. as brdges), because ths can cause damage to the equpment or electrc shock. - If the unt s equpped wth housng, covers and sealng packng, protectng aganst water ntruson, pay specal attenton to ther correct tghtenng or clampng. In the case of any doubt consder usng addtonal preventve measures (covers, roofng, seals, etc.). Carelessly executed assembly can ncrease the rsk of electrc shock. - After the nstallaton s completed do not touch the unt s connectons when t s swtched on, because t carres the rsk of electrcal shock. Due to possble sgnfcant nterference n ndustral nstallatons approprate measures assurng correct operaton of the unt must be appled. To avod the unt of mproper ndcatons keep recommendatons lsted below. Avod common (parallel) leadng of sgnal cables and transmsson cables together wth power supply cables and cables controllng nducton loads (e.g. contactors). Such cables should cross at a rght angle. Contactor cols and nducton loads should be equpped wth ant-nterference protecton systems, e.g. RC-type. Use of screened sgnal cables s recommended. Sgnal cable screens should be connected to the earthng only at one of the ends of the screened cable. In the case of magnetcally nduced nterference the use of twsted couples of sgnal cables (so-called sprals ) s recommended. The spral (best f shelded) must be used wth RS-485 seral transmsson connectons. In the case of measurement or control sgnals are longer than 30m or go outsde of the buldng then addtonal safety crcuts are requred. In the case of nterference from the power supply sde the use of approprate antnterference flters s recommended. Bear n mnd that the connecton between the flter and the unt should be as short as possble and the metal housng of the flter must be connected to the earthng wth largest possble surface. The cables connected to the flter output must not run n parallel wth cables wth nterference (e.g. crcuts controllng relays or contactors). 9

Whle use the relay outputs for swtchng of nductve loads (cols, contactors, power relays, electromagnets, motors etc.) t s requred to use addtonal suppresson crcut (typcally capactor 47nF/ mn. 250VAC n seres wth 100R/5W resstor), connected n parallel to relay termnals or (better) drectly on the load. MAINTENANCE The unt does not have any nternal replaceable or adjustable components avalable to the user. Pay attenton to the ambent temperature n the room where the unt s operatng. Excessvely hgh temperatures cause faster ageng of the nternal components and shorten the fault-free tme of unt operaton. In cases where the unt gets drty do not clean wth solvents. For cleanng use warm water wth small amount of detergent or n the case of more sgnfcant contamnaton ethyl or sopropyl alcohol.! Usng any other agents can cause permanent damage to the housng. Product marked wth ths symbol should not be placed n muncpal waste. Please check local regulatons for dsposal and electronc products. 17

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION After turnng the power supply on, devce ID and software verson are showed on the dsplay, next the controller goes to the measurement mode MEASUREMENT MODE In the measure mode, devce dsplays nstantaneous measurement (flow value or tme per one unt of flow, dependng on F or P parameter value) equvalent to nput current, total flow or batcher counter value. Instantaneous flow (flow rate) s dsplayed n unts defned by parameter F unt (L or m 3 ) and Ftunt (mn., sec. or h), wth resoluton defned by Pont (max. 3 dgts after decmal pont). Devce converts measured current to selected unts accordngly to converson characterstc selected by user. The measurement range equal to the nomnal range s called: nomnal measurement range, and the measurement range equal to the extended nomnal range s called: permssble measurement range (Fgure 6.1, 6.2). 20 If nput current range s strongly overloaded, devce can dsplay mproper results Whle tme per one unt of flow s dsplayed (parameter F or P = PErod ): If flow value equals 0, then message -STOP- s dsplayed. If value of perod s too hgh to be ftted on 6 dgts, message -OvLd- (Overload) s dsplayed nstead of the result. If flow value s dfferent than 0 but value of perod s too small to be ftted on 6 dgts, message -UnLd- (Underload) s dsplayed nstead of the result. Total flow s dsplayed n unts defned by parameter t unt (L or m 3 ), wth resoluton defned by parameter t PrEc (max 3 dgts after decmal pont). If total flow counter overflows, warnng tot ov s dsplayed alternatvely wth maxmum counter value. Total flow counter can be zeroed usng Clrtot opton of total submenu, usng [Σ ] button (press and hold by at least 2 sec.), electrcally va programmable nput or va RS-485 nterface by wrtng of value 0000h to any of total flow counter result regsters. Zerong by [Σ ] button can be actvated usng m CLr opton of total submenu. Zerong va programmable nput can be actvated usng Func opton of Pr np submenu. Parameter CutoFF, allows to defne nput current value, below whch total amount of flow s not counted (ncremented). If CutoFF s set to value dfferent than zero and f nput current s lower than ths value, then nstantaneous flow (flow rate) s dsplayed, but TOTAL COUNTER IS NOT INCREMENTED. Cutoff Threshold CT s defned by formulas below: " CutoFF" 20mA CT = 100 for 0 20mA nput " CutoFF" 16mA CT = 4 ma for 4 20mA nput 100 Batchng counter value s dsplayed n unts defned by parameter b unt (L or m 3 ), wth resoluton defned by parameter b PrEc (max 3 dgts after decmal pont). If batcher counter overflows, warnng bat ov s dsplayed alternatvely wth maxmum counter value. Batchng counter can be zeroed usng CLrbAt opton of batch submenu, usng [Σ ] button (press and hold by at least 2 sec.), electrcally va programmable nput or va RS-485 nterface by wrtng of value 0000h to any of batcher counter result regsters. 21 Swtchng between current flow rate, total flow counter and batcher counter can be done by pressng [Σ ] button. Knd of dsplayed value s sgnalsed by Σ LED. It lghts, whle total flow s dsplayed. If batcher counter s dsplayed then Σ LED s pulsng. Batchng counter can be dsplayed whle batcher mode only (set SourCE = bat n relay1 submenu). Functons of [^] and [v] buttons depend on knd of presently dsplayed value: If nstantaneous flow (flow rate) s dsplayed ( LED marked Σ s off) or batcher counter value ( Σ LED s pulsng), user can check man threshold values and number of batches counter (whch ndcates how many tmes batcher was started). After pressng [^] or [v] buttons, name of the threshold (e.g. relpr1 ) and ts value or batcnt label and number of batches counter wll be dsplayed on the dsplay n alternatng mode. If [^] or [v] wll be pressed n 5 sec agan, the next threshold wll be dsplayed, else the devce comes back to the measurement mode. If a free access s enabled (see descrpton of SECu menu), user can change the value of partcular threshold pressng button [] (see: PARAMETERS EDITION). Usng [Σ ] button whle number of batches counter s dsplayed and confrm CLEAr? message by [] button causes zerong number of batches counter. If partcular parameter has been changed and confrmed n quck vew mode, ts new value s dsplayed n alternatng mode wth parameter name by few seconds. Confrmed changes may be checked or user can swtch vewed parameter pressng [^] or [v] button. Number of batches counter s ncremented after each start of batchng process (every frst start after batcher counter zerong). If batcher counter value s dsplayed ( Σ LED s pulsng) and counter value exceeds 6 dgts, then decmal pont of the most left dgt s pulsng. To vew most sgnfcant dgts, t s requred to decrease resoluton or/and change unt to m 3. If total flow counter value s dsplayed ( LED marked Σ s on), and ts length exceeds 6 dgts, buttons [^] and [v] enable swtchng between more and less sgnfcant dgts. The detecton of the peak can be done f the measured sgnal rases and drops of value at least equal to parameter PEA. Detected peaks are dsplayed durng the tme defned by parameter tme. If a new peak wll be detected whle one s dsplayed, ths new peak wll be dsplayed and dsplay tme counter wll be cleared (Fgure 6.4). If no peaks are detected whle tme tme elapses, devce starts to show the current value of nput sgnal agan. CONTROL OF THE RELAY OUTPUTS The control of the object (measured sgnal) s done due to nstantaneous flow value (current flow rate), total flow counter value or batcher counter value, and s realzed va relay outputs. Front panel LEDs named R ndcates the state of partcular relay output. If devce s not equpped wth one or more relay outputs, menus refer to ths relays are avalable, but apply to LED ndcators only. In such case LEDs ndcates exceedng of partcular thresholds. Modes of the control can be changed depend on the values of parameters SourCE, SEt P, SEt P2, HYSt, mode, t on, t off, unt and ALArmS (avalable n relay1 relay2 menu). If relay s controlled due to total flow counter value ( SourCE = tot ), addtonal parameters are avalable n menu. Parameters t PrEC and t unt defnng the unt and resoluton of dsplayed thresholds and hysteress of selected relay. In ths mode parameter SEt P2 s accessble n common wth SEt P2, ths parameter descrbes a second threshold of the relay output. The parameters HYSt, mode, t on, t off, unt and ALArmS are connected wth both SEt P and SEt P2 thresholds. Whle the controllng process, the relay output changes ts state depends of both SEt P and SEt P2 thresholds n smlar way as t was descrbed n one threshold mode. If two threshold mode s used, mode parameter defnes state of the relay output when the nput value occurs n a partcular zone defned by border values of both thresholds. The relay can be turned on f the nput value s contaned n zone A ( mode = n ) or zone B ( mode = out ) and turned off f t s contaned n the second one (Fgure 6.8). The sequence of thresholds SEt P and SEt P2 can be set n any order, due to the control of relay outputs s done depend on dfference between thresholds values (zone A ) and outsde of threshold values (zone B) Batcher mode and PrE r1 mode To swtch the devce nto a batcher mode n submenu relay1 user should set SourCE = bat. There are followng parameters related to R1 n ths mode: SourCE, SEt P, b PrEC, b unt and ALArmS. Parameters SEt P, b PrEC, b unt defne quantty of batched medum, dsplayng precson and the unt respectvely. Parameter ALArmS allows to set behavour of relay output n crtcal stuatons. Pressng [] button whle devce s n batcher mode causes start of batchng and set of relay R1. Successve pressngs of [] button cause pause/restart of batchng and swtchng R1 relay off/on. When batcher counter reaches value equal to SEt P then relay R1 s swtched off. If batcher counter s overloaded then ts maxmal value s dsplayed alternatvely wth bat ov message. Overload of ths counter do not change state of relays. To start another pourng cycle, batcher counter must be cleared and next new cycle ntated by pressng [] button. Batcher counter can be zeroed usng CLrbAt opton of batch submenu, usng [Σ ] button (press and hold by at least 2 sec.), electrcally va programmable nput or va RS-485 nterface by wrtng of value 0000h to any of batcher counter result regsters. After zerong of batcher counter, currently realzed pourng s stopped and relays swtched off. Zerong electrcally va programmable nput causes start of the next batchng automatcally. In other cases to start of the next batchng t s requred to use [] button or wrte of value 0001h to any of batcher counter result regsters usng RS-485 nterface. To stop batchng t s requred to use [] button or wrte of value 0002h to any of batcher counter result regsters usng RS-485 nterface. Due to delays whle closng/openng the valves decreasng of SEt P parameter (defnng volume of batched medum) can be necessary. Fact that zerong of the batcher counter usng [Σ ] stops the batchng process and swtches off the relays can be used for calculatng desred value of SEt P. Note, that f relay whch s controlled by batcher counter s used for drvng the valve, then value counted after zerong of the batcher counter tells how much of medum flows through valve durng closng. 27

28 Number of batches s counted by another counter (number of batches counter) and stored nto the non-volatle memory. To dsplay the value of ths counter use [^] or [v] button. After that message batcnt and content of number of batches counter are dsplayed alternatvely. To clear ths counter press [Σ ] button whle devce dsplays t and confrm by pressng [ETNER] button. Every ntalsaton of batcher (start of batchng) causes ncrementaton of number of batches counter. If parameter SourCE of relay (other than R1) s set to PrE r1 then parameters SEt P and SEt P2 of partcular relay means control advance of ths relay n relaton to threshold of relay R1 ( SEt P parameter n relay1 submenu). In other words, frst threshold of relay R2 equals SEt P R1 SEt P R2 and value of ts second threshold equals SEt P R1 SEt P2 R2. Thresholds of other relays (f avalable) are calculated n the same way. Relays workng n ths mode can be used to control addtonal valve of the batcher. If relay other than R1 should change ts state at the end of batchng (smultaneously at turnng relay R1 off), t s requred to set mode = n or out and set zero value for one of ts thresholds ( SEt P or SEt P2 ). The clearng and startng of next batchng can be run automatcally, wth defned delay between successve doses. To enable ths feature t s necessary to set parameters: A res (autoreset functon), A dly and Atunt (desred delay and unt of tme) of batch menu Use of the batcher counter as a marker Ths feature allows to use the batcher counter for cyclc control of relays (except R1) by volume of flowng medum (e.g. swtchng relay on after counter reaches 9 ltres and swtch t off after counter reaches -10 ltres, n other words generate one pulse every 10 ltres. For example to use R2 as marker t s requred to set counter as follow: 1. Set relay R1 to batcher mode ( SourCE = bat ). 2. Set SEt P of relay R1 to desred cyclc volume (e.g. 10 ltres). Ths value defnes cycle duraton expressed n unts of flow (not a tme) because cycle tme depends on flow speed. 3. Set relay R2 as batcher pre-trg ( SourCE = PrE R1 ). 4. Set mode of R2 accordng to desred mode of operaton (n ths example mode = on, however t can be also set to other modes). Dependng on ths parametrer, relay wll be no or off n desred phase of the cycle. 5. Set SEt P (and SEt P2 f mode = n or mode = out ) of relay R2 accordng to desred phase wthn t should be on (and off). These values must be lower than threshold of R1. Note, that tme of actve state of R2 depends on flow speed. It s recommended to set SEt P of R2 to half of R1 threshold but t s not necessary (n ths example set 1, what causes that R2 wll be actvated when batcher counter reaches 9 ltres ). 6. Swtch on autoreset of batcher counter ( A res = on ) and set A dly to 0. Note that R1 s swtched off for a short perod every tme batcher counter s cleared, what can be used to any purpose. 28

29 7. DEVICE PROGRAMMING The devce menu allow user to set all parameters connected to operaton of measurement nput, control modes, crtcal stuatons behavour, communcaton va RS-485 and access settngs. The meanng of the partcular parameters s descrbed n paragraph DRIPTION. Some of the parameters can be accessed wthout menu enterng (quck vew mode). If current flow s dsplayed (LED named Σ s off) or batcher counter value (LED named Σ s pulsng) user can check man thresholds values and number of batches (whch ndcates how many tmes batcher was started). After pressng [^] or [v] button, name of the threshold (e.g. relpr1 ) and ts value or batcnt label and number of batches wll be dsplayed on the dsplay n alternatng mode. If [^] or [v] wll be pressed n 5 sec agan, the next threshold wll be dsplayed, else the devce comes back to the measurement mode. If a free access s enabled (see descrpton of SECU menu), user can change the value of partcular threshold pressng button [] (see: PARAMETERS EDITION). If partcular parameter has been changed and confrmed n quck vew mode, ts new value s dsplayed n alternatng mode wth parameter name by few seconds. Confrmed changes may be checked or user can swtch vewed parameter pressng [^] or [v] button PROGRAMMING To enter man menu (beng n the measurement mode) operator must to press and hold at least 2 sec. [/] button. If the user password s defned (see parameter SEtcod, menu SECU ), operator have to enter correct one before proceedng to menu optons. Enterng of the passwords s smlar to the edton of numerc parameters (see: PARAMETERS EDITION ), however presently edtng dgt s showed only on the dsplay, other dgts are replaced by - sgn. After enterng of last dgt of the password frst menu poston wll be dsplayed (f the password s correct) or warnng Error n other case.! Pay attenton when devce parameters are beng changed. If t s possble, turn off controlled nstallaton (machne). 29

The mode of ts new value enterng depends on chosen edt method ( see parameter Edt ). In mode by dgt ( Edt = dg ) pressng one of the keys [^] or [v] causes change of current poston (flashng dgt) or the sgn (+/-). Short pressng of the [] button causes change of the poston (dgt). Press [] at least 2 seconds to accept the changes, after that queston SEt? s dsplayed, and user must to confrm (or cancel) the changes. To conform changes (and story t n EEPROM) press [] button shortly after SEt? s dsplayed. To cancel the changes press [] button shortly after SEt? s dsplayed. After that devce returns to the menu Numerc parameters (slde change mode) In slde change mode ( Edt = Sld ), buttons [^] and [v] has dfferent functons. Press [] at least 2 seconds to accept the changes, after that queston SEt? s dsplayed, and user must to confrm (or cancel) the changes.
