4 DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT The model SNI s a controller of the level for lquds. The detecton and control system s based on the combnaton of the MPS sensor wth the controller SNI. In the sensor MPS there s a certan quantty of modules (from 1 to 80) connected n seres and separated among themselves for the dstance that the user decdes. A float that moves along of the gude tube takes care of actvate or to deactvate the contact placed n each module. The sgnal generated by ths effect s processed n the controller SNI n such a way that s possble to confgure the actons to perform when the float goes to the poston of a determned module. These actons can be assocated to three relays, to 4-20mA loop or to a communcaton seres RS232 or. 8 CONVENTIONS USED IN THIS MANUAL Symbols It refers to the nformaton own of the theme that s treated. Indcate mportant warnngs to take nto account. It refers to how the keys must be pressed to perform the actons ndcated n the examples. General nformaton about the controller or about ths manual, too. Screens In the pages where s explaned how to access to the dfferent screens and menus (pages ), t s shown the way to come to the resoluton of every opton. Ths way s hghlghted by a dark background of the of the screens related n that opton. The unon of several screens by means of a dashed lne, means that the opton s vald for all of them. 6

9 GENERAL CONCEPTS Modules MPS80: Each module becomes actvated when the float reaches ts heght whle goes up due to the acton of the level of lqud. Otherwse, the module s deactvated. Output relays: The relay actvates when the module selected for ts actvaton does t and t becomes deactvated when the module selected for tsdeactvaton, that t does not have reason to be the same does t. Is essental that the release module be the same or nferor to the detecton module. The state of the contacts of the relay depends on the selecton settled wth the opton STATE CONTACT (see page 20). Loop 4-20 ma (optonal): The value sent by the 4-20mA loop s the percentage of actved modules. It can be selected 4-20 or Communcaton wth PC (optonal): It s possble to communcate to the controller SNI wth a computer va the seral port RS232 for ts remote programmng or to process the data that t generates. For a standng-alone communcaton, the programmng nterface CBPZ s requred. For a multple communcaton (up to 31 equpments) an RS232- conversor must be used, reference SBAZ. Dsplay s llumnaton: The dsplay remans llumnated whle ts s accessed to the dfferent screens. If a key s not pressed for longer than 30 seconds, the lght turns off. In order to turn the lght on, t s enough to press any key once only. Workng mode: After settng up the controller s parameters, t can be back to the normal workng mode by executng the opton from the set up menu. The status screens can be also vsualzed f any key s pressed for longer than 3 mnutes. Interactve menus: Only those optons that can be confgured are accessble n menus, beng the rest of the they no vsble. Ths characterstc s nteractve, ths s, that t s produced automatcally n functon of the actve optons at each moment. Change of values: The screens used to change a numercal value contan the margns between that value can be adjusted. These margns can depend on another optons, so that they can vsualze dfferent values n functon of another prevous relatons. 7

In the normal workng mode, the equpment shows the status screen that the user has chosen lke preferrng magntude of vsualzaton. In order to move around among the dfferent status screens of status, press. By pressng from anyone, t s entered to the set up menu. The default status screen s the one shown when the equpment s powered or when any key s not pressed for longer than 3 mnutes. To select t, execute the opton (see page 35). 1.2 User screen USER SCREEN WRITE HERE YOUR TEXT PERSONALIZED The text edted n the user screen s the one that wll be shown next to the status screens when the equpment s the normal workng mode. The characters that can be used are the followng: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z Å Æ ß Ç Ñ Ø - / # % < = > Pressng and the desred character s selected and becomes valdated by pressng, movng up to the followng poston of the rght hand or to the lne below. The repeated pulsaton of ths key provokes the advance of the cursor. A valdated character can not get modfed, that means that s not possble to move back. In order to modfy a text, s necessary to enter agan nto the edton screen. In order to abandon ths screen s essental to advance untl the last poston of the last row. 8

In the same way, movng back from the frst opton t comes to the last one of the seres. Press the keys untl the cursor ndcate the desred value and to valdate t and jump to a new menu. In order to abandon a menu of optons and to return the precedng screen, the opton must selected. 9

14 TYPES OF SCREENS (5/5) 5.1 Screens menus Are those n whch s vsualzed a seres of screens, all them related under the same concept. The dgts placed at the top of the screen ndcate, from top to down, the number of the selected screen and the total number of screens. The screens are dsposed n an endless loop, n such a way than after the last screen t comes to the frst one of the seres. In the same way, movng back from the frst screen t comes to the last one of the seres. RELE 1 MODULE 1Mod Each one of the screens usually dsplays the defnton of a parameter and ts actual value. Press the keys to move to a new screen and to modfy the value vsualzed n t. If no-one value s vsualzed on the screen, pressng t s accessed to a new menu. In order to abandon a screens menu and return to the precedng one, the screen must be selected. MODULE RELEASE 1Mod TIMER S TIMER RELEASE 12

15 QUICK START Connect the sensor MPS to termnals Y1 and Z1 of the controller SNI. Place the float of the sensor n the more elevated part of t. Apply supply voltage to the controller SNI. Set up the total number of nstalled modules usng the sequence: -. - If the number of modules s more than 6, the controller SNI assgns automatcally to each module ts proportonal value n relaton to totalty. - If the number of modules s 6 or less, the proportonal value n relaton to totalty must be assgned manually to each one. Once the number of modules has been valdated, press to access to the dfferent screens for settng the percentage. You wll fnd as much percentage screens as modules had been nstalled Execute the sequence to go back to the status screens and verfy that the equpment s able to recognze all of the modules by dsplacng the float along the tube. If your checkng s satsfactory, go to the followng pont. Otherwse, check the assembly of the modules and the rest of connectons, and repeat the steps 1 to 4 stated on ths page. Set up the parameters that your applcaton needs. Now you can choose two solutons: confgure each parameter ndvdually (see Advanced Programmng, page 17) or use the «user programs» than, as an example, contans several parameters already confgured for some «typcal» applcatons. You wll only need to modfy those parameters belongng to your partcular applcaton. Read carefully the descrpton of these programs and see f they becomes adapted to your needs. (see pages ). 13

16 RAMS (1/3) User programs are permanent n the controller SNI. In order to modfy them, load the program you desre (for example, number 1) nto memory by means of the sequence --. Modfy the parameters, values, tmers, etc. and do the opportune checkngs untl everythng work correctly. Bear n mnd that the dsconnecton of the supply voltage does not provoke the loss of data. For your safety, save your changes by means of the sequence SET UP--. (see page 32). Remember than every tme that Program 1 s loaded nto memory, the default factory parameters wll be restored. If the User Program s loaded (- -PROG USER), you wll obtan the parameters that you modfed (see page 33). It s not requred to load any user program when the equpment turns on: t s kept the same confguraton that was operatve the last tme that the equpment was turned off. 14

19 ADVANCED PROGRAMMING If you want to program by your own the controller SNI, t s not necessary to load any program. Set the parameters showed n the screens that appear when puttng the equpment on for the frst tme. Follow the steps below before begnnng to program: Determne what acton wll make each relay (Ex.: relay 1 to start up or to stop the pump, relay 2 to shoot an alarm,...) Determne what module wll execute each acton (Ex.: the pump wll actvate n 9th module and wll stop n 3rd, the maxmum alarm wll actvate n 11th,...) Determne what actons wll have tmng (Ex.: 8 seconds when detectng maxmum level, 5 seconds when detectng mnmum alarm,...) Begn to program. Remember that certan optons wll be avalable accordng to whch are settled n other prevous optons. Enter to the menu and select. Look for the screen DEFINITION MODE WORKING and select t. Look for the screen DETEC/RELEAS BY and set lke OPERATIVE. If you set ths opton lke NON OPERATIVE, you wll not have avalable the rest of optons. If you want to add tmng to the detecton or to the release, set the screens MODE or MODE RELEASE lke DELAYED, respectvely. In the followng screen you wll be able to set the tme unts. Select the screen to return to the prevous screen and program the rest of optons of. Proceed n the same way for the rest of relays, n case that you are gong to use them. Consult the followng pages to know the rest of programmng possbltes offered by the models SNI. 17

In order to get a rght operaton s essental to access to ths opton as the frst step before settng up whchever other parameter. Defnng a number of modules dfferent to the total of modules nstalled n the sensor MPS wll provoke a wrong operaton of the equpment. 19

The state of the relay (OFF/ON) ndcates the poston of the contacts of the relay when the equpment s turned on and suposng that the float of the sensor MPS s placed n ts lower part and all the modules are deactvated. The state of the contacts of the relay must be set up accordng to the requred operaton you need to perform. 20

Because the controller SNI would reman wthout nformaton, some undesred stuaton could happen lke, for example, the pump could reman always workng or the alarm of maxmum level would never actvate. By means of ths opton can be set up the state of the contacts of the relay when ths stuaton s produced. 21

25 OF AND RELEASE STATE CONTACT RELAY ON MODULE 1Mod Mod MODULE RELEASE 1Mod 5 1 RELEASE 001Mod DEFINITION WORKING MODE Prevous condtons DETEC/RELEASE BY = [ OPERATIVE ] It allows to set the number of the module n whch the relay wll operate when the float reach to the heght where t s placed. The detecton happens when the level of the lqud rases and releases on the opposte case. By ths reason the release module must be equal or lower to the detecton module. The screen for changng the value ndcates the lmts between those the value can be adjusted. The modules are numerated startng by the lower part of the sensor MPS, beng the number 1 the lowest module. 23

Actvaton The relay wll not operate untl the sgnal wll be kept for a tme longer than the adjusted one. For ths reason, MODE DETEC and/or MODE RELEASE must be set as DELAYED. 24

Tme The tme margns depend on the prevously selected range, and can be adjusted between the followng values: 0, SECONDS 0, MINUTES 0, HOURS 26

The possble values are : - for VOLUME: m 3, cm 3 - for CAPACITY: l, dl, hl To complete the set up of the readng s necessary to acces to the opton. (see followng page). 27

30 LOOP 4-20mA TOP SCALE LOOP 4-20mA LOOP 4-20mA Wth ths opton s possble to set the maxmum value of volume or capacty that the tank s able to contan. The readng wll be so much exact when much more modules wll be proportonally dstrbuted along the sensor MPS. For nstance, a tank of 2000 ltres wth three modules proportonally dstrbuted wll only show the values 0, 1000 and If 20 modules are nstalled, the ntervals wll be of 100 ltres per readng. 28

It s necessary to set the value of the percentage for the countervalue of 4 ma and 20 ma. So, s possble to send, for example, only an 80% of the total value. It s also possble to nvert the loop sense by settng 100% at 4 ma and 0% at 20 ma. Ths feature s optonal. Consult the order codes at page 3. 29
