BASIC REQUIREMENTS AND USER SAFETY! - The manufacturer s not responsble for any damages caused by napproprate nstallaton, not mantanng the proper envronmental condtons and usng the unt contrary to ts assgnment. - Installaton should be conducted by qualfed personnel. Durng nstallaton all avalable safety requrements should be consdered. The ftter s responsble for executng the nstallaton accordng to ths manual, local safety and EMC regulatons. - If the devce s equpped wth PE connector, t should be connected to PE wre. Otherwse PE wre should be connected to GND connector. - The unt must be properly set-up, accordng to the applcaton. Incorrect confguraton can cause defectve operaton, whch can lead to unt damage or an accdent. - If n the case of a unt malfuncton there s a rsk of a serous threat to the safety of people or property addtonal, ndependent systems and solutons to prevent such a threat must be used. - The unt uses dangerous voltage that can cause a lethal accdent. The unt must be swtched off and dsconnected from the power supply pror to startng nstallaton of troubleshootng (n the case of malfuncton). - Neghbourng and connected equpment must meet the approprate standards and regulatons concernng safety and be equpped wth adequate overvoltage and nterference flters. - Do not attempt to dsassemble, repar or modfy the unt yourself. The unt has no user servceable parts. Defectve unts must be dsconnected and submtted for repars at an authorzed servce centre. 3

In such cases forced coolng of the unt must be consdered (e.g. by usng a ventlator). The unt s desgned for operaton n an ndustral envronment and must not be used n a household envronment or smlar. 2. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS The TVU Seres meter s equpped wth one current nput (0-20mA), two voltage nputs (0-10V and mv), one RTD nput (Pt 100/500/1000) and one TC nput (thermocouple: K, S, J, T, N, R, B, E). Temperature of cold ends s compensated automatcally. RTD and TC nputs are fully lnearsed. It s allowed to use only one nput at the same tme. Input ranges are descrbed n the next chapter. Result s showed on 4-dgt LED dsplay. The devce can be equpped wth two or four relay (or OC type) outputs. Optonally TVU Seres can be equpped wth actve current output, passve solated current output or actve voltage output. Devce TVU Seres s equpped wth RS-485 / Modbus RTU communcaton nterface and sensor supply output. The meter can be ordered n two power supply versons. The devce has 4 buttons beng used for man presets programmng. To get hgh protecton level, the keyboard s mounted under transparent cover. To allow user to change presets wthout openng the cover, an IR sensor s mounted. Remote controller keyboard s equvalent to the devce keyboard (Note, that remote controller s not a part of the TVU Seres set t s an addtonal equpment). TVU Seres can be used for controllng and regulaton of processes need proportonal and threshold control lke: temperature processes (heatng or coolng), valves controllng or other. 4

8 4. DEVICE INSTALLATION The unt has been desgned and manufactured n a way assurng a hgh level of user safety and resstance to nterference occurrng n a typcal ndustral envronment. In order to take full advantage of these characterstcs nstallaton of the unt must be conducted correctly and accordng to the local regulatons.! - Read the basc safety requrements on page 3 pror to startng the nstallaton. - Ensure that the power supply network voltage corresponds to the nomnal voltage stated on the unt s dentfcaton label. - The load must correspond to the requrements lsted n the techncal data. - All nstallaton works must be conducted wth a dsconnected power supply. - Protectng the power supply connectons aganst unauthorzed persons must be taken nto consderaton UNPACKING After removng the unt from the protectve packagng, check for transportaton damage. Any transportaton damage must be mmedately reported to the carrer. Also, wrte down the unt seral number located on the housng and report the damage to the manufacturer. Attached wth the unt please fnd: - user s manual, - warranty, 4.2. ASSEMBLY! - Dsconnect the power supply pror to startng assembly. - Check the connectons are wred correctly pror to swtchng the unt on.! To nstall devce on the wall, a pnholes should be made. Fgure 4.1 presents dmensons of the devce and dstances between holes. The back sde of the devce has four mountng holes. Ths part of the case should be mounted to a wall by screws. 8

10 4.3. CONNECTION METHOD Cauton! - Installaton should be conducted by qualfed personnel. Durng nstallaton all avalable safety requrements should be consdered. The ftter s responsble for executng the nstallaton accordng to ths manual, local safety and EMC regulatons. - The unt s not equpped wth an nternal fuse or power supply crcut breaker. Because of ths an external tme-delay cut-out fuse wth a small nomnal current value must be used (recommended bpolar, max. 2A) and a power supply crcutbreaker located near the unt. In the case of usng a monopolar fuse t must be mounted on the phase cable (L). - The power supply network cable dameter must be selected n such a way that n the case of a short crcut of the cable from the sde of the unt the cable shall be protected aganst destructon wth an electrcal nstallaton fuse. - Wrng must meet approprate standards and local regulatons and laws. - In order to secure aganst accdental short crcut the connecton cables must be termnated wth approprate nsulated cable tps. - Tghten the clampng screws. The recommended tghtenng torque s 0.5 Nm. Loose screws can cause fre or defectve operaton. Over tghtenng can lead to damagng the connectons nsde the unts and breakng the thread. - In the case of the unt beng ftted wth separable clamps they should be nserted nto approprate connectors n the unt, even f they are not used for any connectons. - Unused termnals (marked as n.c.) must not be used for connectng any connectng cables (e.g. as brdges), because ths can cause damage to the equpment or electrc shock. - If the unt s equpped wth housng, covers and sealng to, protectng aganst water ntruson, pay specal attenton to ther correct tghtenng or clampng. In the case of any doubt consder usng addtonal preventve measures (covers, roofng, seals, etc.). Carelessly executed assembly can ncrease the rsk of electrc shock. - After the nstallaton s completed do not touch the unt s connectons when t s swtched on, because t carres the rsk of electrcal shock. Due to possble sgnfcant nterference n ndustral nstallatons approprate measures assurng correct operaton of the unt must be appled. To avod the unt of mproper ndcatons keep recommendatons lsted below. Avod runnng sgnal cables and transmsson cables together wth power supply cables and cables controllng nductve loads (e.g. contactors). Such cables should cross at a rght angle. Contactor cols and nductve loads should be equpped wth nterference protecton systems, e.g. RC-type. 10

11 Use of screened sgnal cables s recommended. Sgnal cable screens should be connected to the earthng only at one of the ends of the screened cable. In the case of magnetcally nduced nterference the use of twsted par of sgnal cables s recommended. Twsted par (best f shelded) must be used wth RS-485 seral transmsson connectons. In the case of measurement or control sgnals are longer than 30m or go outsde of the buldng then addtonal safety crcuts are requred. In the case of nterference from the power supply sde the use of approprate nterference flters s recommended. Bear n mnd that the connecton between the flter and the unt should be as short as possble and the metal housng of the flter must be connected to the earth wth the largest possble surface. The cables connected to the flter output must not be run wth cables wth nterference (e.g. crcuts controllng relays or contactors). Connectons of power supply voltage and measurement sgnals are executed usng the screw connectons on the back of the unt s housng. max. 2 mm 6-7 mm! Fgure 4.2. Due to precson of measurement 4-wre crcut s recommended. If 2 wre crcut s used, the resstance of wres should be as small as possble, to avod of measurement errors. Measured value can be corrected (constant correcton) usng tofs parameter from menu npt. Due to low precson 2-wre connecton s not recommended. When 4-wres or 2-wres connecton s used, the resstance of partcular wres (Ra Rd) CAN BE DIFFERENT. When 3-wres connecton s used, the resstance of partcular wres (Ra Rd) MUST BE IDENTICAL to enable proper compensaton of t's resstance. Whle usng TC, RTD or voltage nputs (0-150mV) the devce s able to detect wre breaks. Wre breaks are detected wthn about 2 seconds. For connectors number 19 and 20 of 15

16 RTD nput t may take up to about 7 seconds. Durng detecton measurements wll be ncorrect. If wre break s detected "S.Err" (sensor error) message s dsplayed. 19 4.4. MAINTENANCE The unt does not have any nternal replaceable or adjustable components avalable to the user. Pay attenton to the ambent temperature n the room where the unt s operatng. Excessvely hgh temperatures cause faster ageng of the nternal components and shorten the fault-free tme of the unt's operaton. In cases where the unt gets drty do not clean wth solvents. For cleanng use warm water wth small amount of detergent or n the case of more sgnfcant contamnaton ethyl or sopropyl alcohol.! Usng any other agents can cause permanent damage to the housng. Product marked wth ths symbol should not be placed n muncpal waste. Please check local regulatons for dsposal of electronc products. 5. PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION After turnng the power supply on, devce ID and software verson are showed on the dsplay, next the controller goes to the measurement mode MEASUREMENT MODE In the measure mode, the measurement results, converted over selected characterstc, are dsplayed on the LED dsplay. The measurement range equal to the nomnal range s called: nomnal measurement range, and the measurement range equal to the extended nomnal range s called: permssble measurement range (Fgure 6.1, 6.2). For temperature nputs (TC and RTD) there s lnear characterstc avalable only. For ths knd of nputs nomnal measurement range, and permssble measurement range are the same (no range extenson avalable, Fgure 6.3). Defntons of measurement ranges n mode 4 20mA If the result of measurement exceeds the permssble measurement range, warnng -H- or -Lo- s dsplayed rather than nput sgnal, dependng on exceeded value (see descrpton of Lo r and H r parameters, paragraph npt menu). The warnng can be effect of measurement crcut malfuncton. In that case -Lo- means shortcut and -H- means break of measurement crcut. Defntons of measurement ranges n mode Pt100 In the measurement mode user can check man thresholds values. After pressng [^] or [v] button, name of the threshold (e.g. rel1 ) and hs value wll be dsplayed on the dsplay n alternatng mode. If [^] or [v] wll be pressed n 5 sec agan, the next threshold wll be dsplayed, else the devce comes back to the measurement mode. If a free access s enabled (see descrpton of SECu menu), user can change the value of partcular threshold pressng button [] (see: PARAMETERS EDITION). All accessble parameters can be changed by enterng the menu (see: DEVICE PROGRAMMING). Use the local keyboard or the remote controller to do t. (Note: all parameters can be remote changed va RS-485 nterface). Confguraton of the devce (va menu or RS-485 nterface) does not stop measures DETECTION OF THE PEAK VALUES The TVU Seres controller s equpped wth peaks detecton functon. It can detect a peaks of the nput sgnal and dsplay ther values. Presets connected wth ths functon are placed n HOLd menu (see descrpton of HOLd menu). The detecton of the peak can be done f the measured sgnal rases and drops of value at least equal to parameter PEA. Detected peaks are dsplayed durng the tme defned by parameter tme. If a new peak wll be detected whle one s dsplayed, ths new peak wll be dsplayed and dsplay tme counter wll be cleared (Fgure 6.4). If no peaks are detected whle tme tme elapses, devce starts to show the current value of nput sgnal agan. If HdS = HOLD then settng parameter "tme"=0.0 causes holdng peak value untl [] button s pressed. If HdS = real then value "tme"=0.0 means no holdng. The relays/leds and analogue outputs can be controlled depend on the current value of nput sgnal or the peak value (see HOLd menu). 21

CONTROL OF THE RELAY OUTPUTS The control of the object (measured sgnal) s realzed va relay outputs. Front panel LEDs named R ndcates the state of partcular relay output. If devce s not equpped wth one or more relay outputs, menus refer to ths relays are avalable, but apply to LED ndcators only. In such case LEDs ndcates exceedng of partcular thresholds. Depend on mode parameter, relays can be not used or controlled over one or two thresholds values. 24 Parameter SEtP sets a threshold of the relay, and parameter HYSt sets a hysteress of the relay (Fgure 6.7 a). The relay can change hs state only when nput value exceeds (over or under) border value and ta,tb,tc,td tmes (Fgure 6.7) are bgger than the tme defned by parameters t on, toff and unt. Border values means values equal threshold+hysteress and threshold-hysteress respectvely. If t on and toff parameters are set to 0, then the relay state wll be changed as soon as nput value exceeds any of the border values (see ponts A and C, Fgure 6.7 a, b, c). If values of t on or/and toff are postve, then relay state wll be turned on f the nput value exceeds the border values and stay bgger (or lower) durng at least t on (see ponts B ON, D ON, Fgure 6.7 a, d, e). Smlarly, the relay wll be turned off f tme toff elapse snce the nput sgnal value exceeds any of the border values (see ponts B OFF, D OFF, Fgure 6.7 a, d, e). If ta,tb,tc or td (when nput sgnal stay n zone A or zone B) are lower than parameters t on or toff, the relay wll not change hs state (see ponts A and C, Fgure 6.7 a, d, e). The state of relay output whle the nput value exceeds the border values (ponts A, B, C, D) s descrbed by parameter mode. 26 The sequence of thresholds SEtP and SEt2 can be set n any order, due to the control of relay outputs s done depend on dfference between thresholds values (zone A ) and outsde of threshold values (zone B). 7. DEVICE PROGRAMMING The devce menu allow user to set all parameters connected to operaton of measurement nput, control modes, crtcal stuatons behavour, communcaton va RS-485 and access settngs. The meanng of the partcular parameters s descrbed n paragraph DRIPTION. Some of the parameters can be accessed wthout menu enterng (quck vew mode). After pressng [^] or [v] button, name of the threshold (e.g. rel1 ) and hs value wll be dsplayed on the dsplay n alternatng mode. If [^] or [v] wll be pressed n 5 sec agan, the next threshold wll be dsplayed, else the devce comes back to the measurement mode. If a free access s enabled (see descrpton of SECu menu), user can change the value of partcular threshold pressng button [] (see: PARAMETERS EDITION). If partcular parameter has been changed and confrmed n quck vew mode, ts new value s dsplayed n alternatng mode wth parameter name by few seconds. Confrmed changes may be checked or user can swtch vewed parameter pressng [^] or [v] button PROGRAMMING To enter man menu (beng n the measurement mode) operator must to press and hold at least 2 sec. [/] button. If the user password s defned (see parameter Scod, menu SECU ), operator have to enter correct one before proceedng to menu optons. Enterng of the passwords s smlar to the edton of numerc parameters (see: PARAMETERS EDITION ), however presently edtng dgt s showed only on the dsplay, other dgts are replaced by - sgn. In mode by dgt ( Edt = dg ) pressng one of the keys [^] or [v] causes change of current poston (flashng dgt) or the sgn (+/-). Short pressng of the [] button causes change of the poston (dgt). Press [] at least 2 seconds to accept the changes, after that queston SEt? s dsplayed, and user must to confrm (or cancel) the changes. To decrease edted value press (or press and hold ) [v] button only. The decreasng became quckest as long as button [v] s pressed. To slow down the decreasng, button [^] can be used. If [^] s pressed shortly (and button [v] s stll pressed), decreasng slow down for a moment only, f [^] s pressed and held whle button [v] s stll pressed the decreasng slow down and wll be kept on lower speed. 27

After selecton of ths opton devce wats for X and Y coordnates of new pont. Modfcaton of the coordnates s done accordngly to numercal parameters edton. Coordnate X defnes the percentage rato of nput current to selected current range. The X range: -99,9 199,9. Coordnate Y defnes dsplayed value for partcular X value. The Y value can be changed n range: , decmal pont poston depend on Pnt parameter (menu npt ). User can not enter two ponts wth the same value of X coordnate. If user trays to do t, Err warnng s dsplayed. To modfy any defned pont use EdtP opton. AddP, delp and EdtP optons are avalable only f the user defned characterstc s used (t means when parameter CHAr = USEr ). Lo r, H r - these parameters defne the expanson of nomnal range n percent. They determne the permssble range of nput sgnal (Fgure 7.1). The permssble range allow user to exceed the nomnal range of nput sgnal. If nput value s contaned n the permssble range a proper result s dsplayed. If nput sgnal exceeds ths range (defned by Lo r and H r ), -Lo- or - H- warnng s dsplayed depend on nput sgnal value. 33

Ths parameter can be set from 0 to 99.9% (for actve current output and actve voltage output) or from 0 to 29.9% (for passve current output). Parameter H r defnes hgher border of the range due to formula: Out max = B + (B H r %), where: B hgher sgnal value range lmt. Ths parameter can be set from 0 to 19.9% (for actve and passve current output) or from 0 to 9.9% (for actve voltage output). 35

43 8. OVER-CURRENT PROTECTION The current nput of the devce s equpped wth over-current protecton crcut. Ths crcut protects the standard resstor to damage. Maxmum nput current s set to 50mA (typcal). When temperature of the standard resstor falls, the protecton crcut wll turn off hmself automatcally, and the devce wll measure the nput current agan. Due to thermal phenomenon n the standard resstor, precson of the measurement may be lower, durng few mnutes (up to the standard resstor temperature wll falls to the envronment temperature). 9. DISPLAYED VALUES CALCULATION For smplcty of examples t's assumed that current nput s selected, and all calculatons are related to ths nput. When voltage nput s selected calculatons are smlar (be sure of partcular ranges and unts). The frst step to compute the result of measure s the calculaton of the normalzed result (t means result of 0-1 range). To do t, the begn of the nput range (0 ma for 0-20mA range, and 4mA for 4-20mA range) must be subtracted from measured value. Next, receved result must be dvded by the wdth of the nput range ( t means 20mA for 0-20mA range, and 16mA for 4-20mA range). So normalzed result can be expressed by expressons: I n = I np I n = I np. 20 for 4 20mA range for 0 20mA range where I np. Means nput current (n ma), and I n normalzed result. In such cases presented expressons are stll correct ADDITIONAL CALCULATIONS (USED CONVERSION CHARACTERISTIC) The manner of the addtonal computaton of the dsplayed result depends on selected converson characterstc.
