The traditina caxia ci cnfiguratin is perated at widey separated frequencies and the hriznta cpanar ci pair is perated at a frequency apprxiatey aigned with ne f the caxia frequencies. The eectragnetic respnse easured by the heicpter syste is a functin f the "eectrica" and "geetrica" p prperties f the cnductr. The cnductance and depth vaues as presented are crrect ny as far as the de apprxiates the rea gegica M ' situatin. The actua gegica surce ay be f iited ength, have significant dip, its cnductivity and thickness ay vary with depth and/r strike and adjacent bdies and verburden ay have dified the respnse. In genera the cnductance estiate is ess affected by these iitatins than is the depth estiate, but bth shud be cnsidered as reative rather than absute guides t the anay's prperties.

The higher ranges f cnductance, greater than hs, indicate that a significant fractin f the eectrica cnductin is eectrnic rather than eectrytic in nature. In this case the apparent cnductance can seriusy underrate the quaity f the cnductr in J gegica ters. In a siiar sense the reativey nn- cnducting suphide ineras nted abve ay be present in significant cncentratin in assciatin with inr cnductive

It is ften very difficut t distinguish between these cases. If the cnductr is as agnetic, it wi usuay prduce an M anay whse genera pattern resebes ' that f the agnetics. epending n the agnetic pereabiity f the cnducting bdy, the apitude f the inphase M anay wi be weakened, and if the cnductivity is as weak, the inphase M anay ay even be reversed in sign.

The ny reative disadvantage f the ethd ies in its sensitivity t cnductive verburden. In cnductive grund the depth f expratin is severey iited. The respnse is a crss-ver type due t the fact that it i s the vertica rather than tta fied quadrature cpnent that is easured. The respnse shape is due argey t geetrica rather than cnductivity cnsideratins and the distance between the axiu and iniu n either side f the crss-ver is reated t target depth. Fr a given target geetry, the arger this distance the greater the
