Burlington, ON, L7S 1A9 WE ACCEPT We do not prorate for late registrations or missed classes. AGB Members receive a $25 discount on most classes. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Debit, Cheques & Cash. Registration is complete upon receipt of fee. ART SUPPLIES Adult students must supply their own materials unless noted otherwise. Course outlines and supply lists are available on the registration page of the website. Materials for children s courses are included in the registration fee. CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY Refunds are cheques payable to registrants, subject to the following: 1. The AGB reserves the right to cancel or combine classes if minimum enrollment is not met. 2.. If a course is canceled, registrants will be notified before the scheduled class date. 3. Requests for refunds must be made in writing to Studio Education Coordinator: registration@agb.life 4. No refunds will be given after the 3rd week of an 8 week course or 1st day of camp. 5. Except for courses canceled by the gallery, all refunds will be subject to a $25 administration charge and a pro-rated deduction for classes up to AND including the date of the refund request. 6. Come to the AGB and experience crafting in a real art studio led by an AGB artist instructor. Choose from a variety of 1 ½ hour workshops; from painting or clay handbuilding to weaving and collage -create special birthday memories! Please note: a minimum of 8 participants are required and activities are suitable for children ages 5 teen. Adult parties are also available. FRIENDS/COUPLES CLAY DATE Plan an event for 8 or more friends/colleagues to experience the fun of working in Clay. You ll learn to shape an object (mug, bowl, etc.) out of clay and decorate it with coloured slips. You will be required to wait 2 weeks for the finished product to be fired in the kiln. Exercise your creativity by trying your hand at four unique projects in four fun packed afternoons in four traditional art disciplines; painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. For the absolute beginner or the curious discipline-centric. All materials will be provided as you explore different mediums and develop skill sets to inspire you for future classes! Instructor: Kevin Willson A53 Throw like a Pro (includes firing fee) Member Fee $155 May 18 - June 22 Wed (6 classes) Non- Member $180 Time: 7-10 pm For those able to center clay and want to go beyond basic forms; a class for intermediate potters. The focus of this class will be to increase throwing skills and will include demos of production techniques. We will pay attention to decoration through playing with surface texture and advanced glazing techniques. Come play in clay. Instructor: Barbara Taylor A54 Pop-up Pottery (includes firing fee) Member price $230 April 28 - June 30 Thur (10 classes) Non Member $255 Time: 7-10 pm Calling past and present students a pop-up pottery class for students of all skill levels in both throwing and hand-building. Demonstrations will be offered based on individual needs as they arise, including hand-forming methods, potter s wheel techniques, decorating and glazing. There will be an open ended flow of information. The goal is for each student to identify his or her personal direction. Instructor: Wayne Cardinalli JUNE W37 Plein Air Please (Ages adults) Member Fee $150 June 1-29 Wed (5 classes) Non- Member $175 Time: 12:30-4:30 pm Get the best painting experience of the summer by learning to paint en plein air (outside). This course is designed to engage the student in the fundamentals of plein air painting; studying the effect of natural light on colour. Create vivid and original landscapes in the oil medium, improving your composition and colour mixing skills. Learn how to use the alla prima technique to master your brushstrokes while enjoying a variety of subjects of landscape and city scenes. Students will paint and take photos on location using direct observation to make a number of onsite studies. Instructor: Julie Donec W11 Jewellery Techniques and Beyond (Ages 17+) Member $100 June 1-22 Wed (4 classes) Non Member $125 Time: 7-10 pm Starting with wire and bead techniques and moving on to metalworking techniques, this 4 week course will teach you how to make connectors and links as well as how to anneal metal, cut, dome, texture, hammer, saw, patina and more. This course will give you the skills to make stock custom pieces saving you money to invest in your craft. This gentle introduction to basic art skills is for you. See a dramatic improvement in sketching, painting and creative skills. Includes a study of historical and contemporary paintings as reference. Develop the ability to think and see as an artist. For beginners and those with experience. Instructor: Kevin Willson W05 Digital Camera Shy (access to AGB Mac computers) Member $110 June 7-28 Tues (4 classes) Non Member $135 Time: 7-10 pm Don t be intimidated by the digital camera! This course will help you to understand how the digital camera works. We will practise taking photos using different camera settings until you feel confident working on your own. We will then learn how to transfer photos from the camera to the computer and learn some editing tricks so you can share the best with family and friends. Follow the host (an AGB studio instructor and practicing artist) as you are guided with entertaining demonstrations to recreate a selected painting. Come join us for a drink and a few laughs; bring a friend or come to meet new friends. No artistic background is necessary and all are welcome. Instructor: Kevin Willson W42 Screen Printing Basics (Ages 17+) Member $ 110 June 9-30 Thurs (4 classes) Non Member $135 Time: 7-10 pm Just squeegee it! This course is designed to introduce students to the medium of screen-printing. Students will explore the various steps in the printing process placing emphasis on image transfer, positive and negative space and working in multiples. Examples will be shown in class to introduce students to the medium of screen-printing. Student may choose to develop their edition and print on fabric or paper. All levels of students welcome from beginners to experienced students sharing a passion or curiosity for screen printing. Member Fee $150 July 13 -Aug 17 Wed (6 classes) Non- Member $175 Time: 7-10 pm Let go of all of your creative inhibitions and have fun painting something big and bold. Use large canvases and large brushes to create your own masterpieces. All levels are welcome and a sense of adventure is encouraged. Materials required include acrylic paints of three colours or more and a canvas of 30 x40 or bigger. Instructor: Sandee Ewasiuk W56 Beginners Throwing Workshop Member Fee $155 July 20 - Aug 24 Wed (6 classes) Non- Member $180 Time: 7-10 pm No prior experience required! The focus of this class will be learning to control the clay so it is perfectly centered for successful pots. We will also cover posture at the wheel, clay prep and basic glazing techniques for our finished pieces. Opportunity for individual practise time built into the program. In this introductory workshop students learn how to draw with pens and brushes, and develop their skills through the study of still life arrangements and fun exercises. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced, this course will dramatically sharpen your rendering skills. All levels welcome. This course builds on the basics and introduces exciting photography techniques and related computer enhancing skills. Children will experiment with clay, drawing and painting, weaving and mixed media sculpture. The goal of the program is to stimulate creativity; enhanced motor skills and improved attention span are added benefits. Children will be divided into small classes based on age. Instructor: Michelle Lynn, Christopher Giroux and Tyler VanHolst E24 Stop Motion Animation (Ages 11+yr) Member $200 July 4-8 M-F (5 classes) Non Member $225 Stop-Motion Animation: A digital animation technique working with 2D and 3D media (hand drawing, cut paper and Claymation) that makes static objects appear to be moving. Get inspired by some of our favorites like Wallace and Gromit or Coraline and learn about artists like Jan Švankmajer, Eyal Landesman, and BLU to bring your own creations to life. This camp includes writing, drawing, sculpting, painting, digital photography, and computer editing to challenge all budding animators. All equipment supplied by the AGB. After an introduction to printmaking processes students will experiment with different styles and materials to create their own truly unique artworks. Methods include block printing, intaglio, and mono printing by hand. We will also have the opportunity to work with a full size printing press. Instructor: Tyler VanHolst E01 Handbuilding & Wheel Techniques for Teens (Ages 13+yr) Member $200 July M-F (5 classes) Non Member $225 An introduction to the processes of ceramics. We will produce a slab formed object, such as jars and clocks and then work on the potter s wheel. Topics include the methods of forming, as well as decoration using coloured slips, carving, sgraffito and finishing the pieces by glazing and firing the works. These students will learn how to curate an exhibition and install the summer student exhibition in our Community Gallery, learn about collection storage and how to lead a tour. In addition these students will have an opportunity to develop their art making skills to add to existing portfolios with workshops led by artist/educators in mediums of their choice (including printmaking, digital art, drawing and painting and more). This unique opportunity will provide students with experiences to help them speak with confidence about art practises and help them make informed decisions about their post-secondary education.
