1 Wednesday Afternoon Workshop, 1-4PM Level: All Levels basic Metalsmithing skills required This class is an open forum for serious beginners and beyond. Enjoy the use of a full complement of metalworking tools in a casual, unstructured environment. Work on your own or with some oversight to begin or complete your masterpiece! Perfect for those who do not have access to a complete home workshop and who enjoy the camaraderie of a group setting. Please bring your own consumable supplies (flux, solder, saw blades, drill bits, metal, gemstones) and your personal favorite tools (access studio tools and soldering station as needed). Metalsmithing basics are needed for this class - contact instructor with questions. Class size limited to six people. This will be an ongoing class. Either way, prepare to have some fun while learning the basics of working with Page 1

2 metal. The first three classes will focus on making three different projects: a custom-fitted cuff bracelet, a pin, and a pair of earrings and ear wires. By the fourth week, students will be designing and creating their own works with personalized help. Students having experience may choose to forgo the class project and work at their own projects with aid of instructor. Core techniques will be demonstrated by the instructor and performed by students, such as soldering, cutting shapes with a jeweler's saw, and filing. More advanced techniques will be demonstrated in later weeks and as the needs of the class are discovered. Find out how to position your body to prevent injury and work ergonomically. Finish new creations with a beautiful polish or patina. Gather inspiration, and collaborate with other jewelry artists. Basic supplies provided. Contact instructor for suggested supply list. Saturday, May 15 from 10am-2pm Saturday, June 12 from 10am-2pm Level: Beginner and beyond no experience required We re off to the races in this fast-paced workshop geared to the absolute beginner. Participants will learn basic metaslmithing skills while creating a class project silver ring with your own personal flair. The silver ring can be left plain and simple, or it may be textured with various tools, files or hammers, depending on the look you desire. Depart with a stunning piece of jewelry you will be proud to wear. When people ask, and they will, you ll be able to say I made it myself. 3 Jewelry Connections for the Beginner Sunday, May 16 from 12pm-4pm Sunday, June 27 from 12pm-4pm Sunday, July 11 from 12pm-4pm Level: All levels Complete a unique pendant for yourself or a loved one in this class! This workshop is designed as an introduction to a variety of techniques which do not require the heat of soldering to join two or more items together securely in short, cold connections. These connections are often used with glass beads, recycled items and found objects. This class is also a great choice for beaders and glass bead artists seeking to take their work to the next level. Tube rivets, invisible rivets, stitches, tabs, and slots will be demonstrated as ways to connect layers of materials and meaning. Using letter and number stamps to communicate your own personal message is an option. Combining new with recycled materials will be covered. This workshop is perfect for anyone who desires to incorporate metal in their work in low-tech ways. Bartering and trading of materials is encouraged, but not necessary. Participants will come away with a memorable pendant and a sense of community. Basic supplies are provided. Class size limited to six people. Make-and-Take Pendant with Cabochon Monday June 7 from 6 pm to 9:30 pm Monday June 21 from 6pm to 9:30 pm Level: All Levels Want to learn to use sterling silver to set your own stones or your fused glass creations? This class is for you! Learn how to look for the best cabochons (smooth-top stones) for setting and tips, terminology and techniques used in successful stone setting. Participants will complete a basic pendant complete with a Page 3

4 cabochon or your own fused glass creation. The class will be paced for success at any level, with plenty of one-on-one assistance, and fun too. No experience necessary. Class fee includes all tools, materials and enough silver for a small pendant. An assortment of small cabochons will be available for purchase as desired, or bring your own stone or flat-backed fused glass or other glass piece. Class size limited to 6 people. 5 Soldering Intensive Saturday, June 19 from 10-4pm Saturday July 10 from 10-4pm Level: Seasoned beginners and beyond Want to walk up to the soldering station with confidence? Learn a variety of soldering techniques in this intensive workshop just as the name implies! Hone your skills at the hot table as you work with an acetylene-air torch setup in a safe environment. Sweat soldering, butt soldering, binding wire, and managing multiple soldering operations with ease will be covered. Find out what is needed to begin soldering at home safely and what types of soldering supplies to use in various applications. Bring your problem projects. Get over your fear of the flame and get the skills you need to expand your creative voice through the correct application of heat. If you have taken a basic Metalsmithing or jewelry making class involving metals and want to kick your skills up a notch, this is the class for you. Beginners will work at their own pace through demos and hands-on soldering. Leave with samples and handouts to make visits to your own bench that much easier. Basic supplies are provided.
