The morning will focus on design of the whole piece and construction/firing of the copper clay elements. The afternoon will focus on construction/firing of the silver clay elements around the copper, finishing, and patination. In addition to using standard metal clay techniques, Hadar Jacobson's "hot-riveting" technique will be introduced as a means of joining the copper and silver clay elements. Since copper clay can easily interfere with the proper firing of silver clay (and vice-versa), it is extremely important to keep separate sets of clay-forming tools for copper clay and silver clay. Each student will need to bring their own basic copper clay tool kit and basic silver clay tool kit, with dedicated sets of progressive-grit sanding sponges for each kit, along with at least 20-grams of low-fire silver clay. Art Clay Copper will be provided by the instructor. LMH150 (Art Clay Copper) and at least two other prior classes in metal clay $110 + Basic Metal Clay Tool Kits (one for copper; one for silver) + 20-gms Art Clay Silver LMH320 Saturday, June 22, :00 AM to 5:30 PM Bring Cu & Ag tool kits & 20 gms low-fire silver. At least two prior Intermediate level classes in metal clay. MC LMH430 - Creative Stone-setting in Silver Clay This class will walk the Advanced Intermediate metal clay artist through a variety of stone-setting techniques for metal clay while creating either a multi-stone embellished pendant or a series of stone settings that can be incorporated into future pieces. Techniques include: creating a setting for a non-fireable stone using fine silver bezel wire, slab-formed stone settings, syringe-formed stone settings, prong setting using embeddable elements, and using fine-silver bezel cups. At least two prior Intermediate level classes in metal clay. MC LMH431 - Taming the Rogue Stone This Advanced Intermediate level class focuses on designing and creating a front-to-back cohesive design for a unique, flat-backed stone cabochon that would not withstand the rigors of firing. Using a doppelgänger technique, students will create a silver clay pendant setting without using bezel wire. The stone will be set after the metal clay element is fired and finished. At least two prior Intermediate level classes in metal clay. LMH431 Friday, August 23, :00 AM to 5:30 PM Bring metal clay tool kit; wear closed-toed shoes.
