5 CLASSES FOR KIDS ELEMENTARY- HIGH SCHOOL Creative Kids Papier-mâché Come explore 3D art! Using the power of your imagination, kids ages 7-10 years will create a unique piece of handmade art that will bring whimsy and life to their household. Create a fantastical beast or a realistic pet that you can paint, decorate with household objects, and take home! Session 2: Feb 26 - Mar 18 Kids Exploring Art: Dale Chihuly Dale Chihuly is known for his glass installations, from grand ballrooms to gardens; Chihuly glass is a whimsical and beautiful art form that combines architecture and nature. In this class, students ages 8-13 years old will learn about the artist, his techniques, inspiration, and background while recreating some of his classic glass designs using mixed media. Wednesdays 4:30-6:00 p.m.; 3 weeks; (M) $42; (NM) $46 Session 2: Feb 24 - Mar 9 Creative Kids Drawing and Painting Instructor: Maria Latour Kids ages 8-12: Learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting and composition while exploring various subject matter including landscape, still life, nature and dream imagery. Media explored include: pencil, charcoal, pastels, water color and acrylic paint on canvas. Image source: lockandstockphotos.com Creative Kids Watercolors This course is designed to introduce the excitement and beauty of watercolor to children ages 9-13 years old. Students will learn about watercolor paper, tools, paints and techniques. Watercolor skills taught in the class will be used to create several new and completed projects. Session 1: Jan 12 - Feb 16 Creative Kids Draw What You See This class is designed to teach children ages years to work in a studio setting drawing from seen objects. New drawing materials, papers, techniques, vocabulary and perspective will be introduced. Children will help create the still lives in the studio to teach them composition and design. Learn art history while creating projects via drawing, painting, sculpture and mixedmedia. Each class offers unique scheduled activities in conjunction with the current professional exhibit on display in the Art House Gallery, so attend more than once! Parent and Child Class Instructor: Maria Latour Bring your child, grandchild, niece, nephew, neighbor, or friend ages 6-12 years old and share in the creation of a masterpiece! Workshops are for one adult with one or two children. Share the experience of working on an art project together. Each class will be unique, so attend more than once! Fairy Door Workshop Kids ages 5-8 years: Make your own fairy door to take home in this two day workshop. Get creative with found objects in nature and use paints and glue to help you create and finish your own fairy door just like the ones in Downtown Northville! Fairy Doors in Clay Workshop Instructor: Maria Latour This three week workshop offers a different spin on our classic Fairy Door class for kids 8-12 years. Design and create a fanciful fairy door with clay and colorful paints, and even add a troll, fairy or dragon on the door! DIY Lip Balms, Gloss, and Butters Instructor: Sharon Czekala Any student age 16 and under must take the class with an adult for supervision. Ages 10 and up: Learn to make your own yummy, natural lip balms, glosses, and butters, using vegetable oils, waxes, colors, and flavors. Pop Art Collage Workshop Ages 10-15: Learn how to transform a plain canvas into a unique one of a kind piece of art that you ll get to take home with you. Using simple shapes and pop dots for depth, you ll be using paper and paint to make a canvas that is 100% you. Hearts, Cards, and Letters Workshop Ages 13 and up: Personalize all your Valentine s gifts and cards with calligraphy and creative lettering. Watercolor paints, markers, and colored pencils will be available to add to your creativity! DIY Fizzing Bath Bombs Instructor: Sharon Czekala Any student age 16 and under must take the class with an adult for supervision. Ages 8 and up: Have fun in the tub with these skinfriendly bubbly treats. We will use natural ingredients and your choice of colors and fragrances to make these delightful fizzing bath bombs- just like you can buy at LUSH! First we will make our very own bubble wand using wire, then we will embellish them with beads, ribbons and sparkles to make each one unique. Next we will make our own bubble solution and then the best part - we will go outside and blow bubbles with our works of art! Get creative with found objects in nature and use paints and glue to help you create and finish your own fairy door just like the ones in Downtown Northville! SPRING BREAK Thumbprint Art Kids ages 3-5 years: Learn how to use your fingers to paint wild animals and beautiful flowers in this two week class. Be prepared to get a little messy! Creative Jewelry Making Instructor: Maria Latour Kids ages 9-12 years: Make one of a kind bracelets and necklaces using wire, leather, stretch cord with glass, acrylic, and semi-precious stone beads. Each student will also make their own beads and pendants out of clay. Workshop Instructor: Maria Latour Have you ever dreamed of showing at Fashion Week? Love to create new and unique clothing designs? Learn how to make a whole collection of your own! Spring Sunglasses Rehab Ages 8-12: Bring your own sunglasses and leave with a transformed pair of shades that will be one of a kind! 10 CLASSES FOR TEENS AND ADULTS DRAWING Adult Drop In Studio Drop-In the Art House for camaraderie and encouragement while working on your own project. No instruction is provided, but fellowship is encouraged. For those who wish, still life set-ups provided to inspire creativity. 2nd Fridays of the month; 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.; (M) and (NM) $10 per date. No pre-registration required. Beginning Drawing Explore the adventure of drawing. Expand on simple shapes and techniques to explore perspective, shading, texture, values, composition and more. The class will use pencil, charcoal, ebony, colored pencils, pens and much more. New and different papers will be used to further your creativity. All three sessions are ongoing with new mediums and techniques introduced with each session. The instructor will provide a sketch, reference materials and printed notes on techniques and color. Colored pencils can be purchased separately or you can bring your own. An will be sent out before class with the colors needed. Build stronger paintings, more focus on techniques and improving creative practices. Every student gets individual attention in a learner-centered based approached. Continuing Watercolor- Landscapes Use watercolor techniques and skills to paint landscapes while working at your own pace with support and instruction. Students should bring travel photos and other pictures for inspiration. Class discussions will be encouraged. Bring supplies and watercolor paper and be ready to paint! This class is for the beginner student with no or very little painting experience. We re going to start at the very beginning and take our time. Instructor demonstrations with lots of information about the fundamentals of acrylic painting. Gain knowledge and confidence learning about value, color, shapes, composition and so much more. The instructor will provide the supplies for the first introductory class and information on what supplies to purchase for continuing with the next 5 classes and beyond. This class will pick up where the Introductory class left off. Continuing the basics of traditional oil painting with focus on composition, values, shapes, color, etc. Bring to class a painting you are currently working on or start fresh using your own reference, photo or drawing. This class is designed for beginning and intermediate students in calligraphy, with a step-by-step approach, but is also well-suited for anyone who wants to brush up on their Italic. Session 1: Jan 14 - Feb 18 Session 2: Feb 25 - Apr 7 (no class Mar 31) Session 3: Apr 14 - May 19 PHOTOGRAPHY PASTEL Beginning and Continuing Pastel Designed for beginners as well as more experienced students, this class will help you gain knowledge and experience in many areas such as: color theory, art elements, principles of art as well as the development of one's own unique style. This class provides a relaxed atmosphere where creativity and comfortable learning are the teacher s goal in helping each student learn at his/her pace. Join us for this beginning-level 4 week course that will guide you through approaching photography, using your camera s manual settings, taking artful shots, and even approaching mobile photography on your phone. This is a discussion and lecture based class, so bring something to take notes with and your digital camera for reference. 13 CLASSES FOR TEENS AND ADULTS COLLAGE STUDIO-LECTURE Delving Deeper Into Modern Art Ages 16 and up; consent waiver (available at Art House store) needed for all students under 18. This is the perfect class for anyone interested in Modern Art, whether you are a future art student or an art lover looking to learn more about artists you may not know the most about. This studio-lecture hybrid class will cover a variety of modern greats in a variety of mediums, from photography to oils, from surreal to still life, and will teach you how to incorporate the influence of true greats into your own work while maintaining your own originality. While watching documentaries and discussing the great works of Georges Braque, Frida Kahlo, Francesca Woodman and more. This class will involve graphic subject matter and imagery. While it will be handled in a respectful manner, as all art should be, this class does come with a mature-content warning. Fridays 4:00-6:00 p.m.; 6 weeks; (M) $111 ; (NM) $124 Session 1: Jan 15 - Feb 19 21st CENTURY MEDIA Adult Surrealist Collage Ages 18 and up: Learn how to use the techniques of the surrealist greats of the early 20th century and apply them to the creative and unique cut and past art of fine collage work! Gaining traction as a serious artwork over the past twenty years, collaging creates a canvas where your only limits are your materials and your boundless imagination! In this class, professional collage artist Amber Valentine will teach some tricks of the trade and offer up some truly unique vintage materials to work with. Students are encouraged to bring their own books or photographs to work with. Remember: The thicker the paper, the better quality your collage! Session 2: Mar 16 - Apr 6 (no class Mar 30) Photoshop for Beginners Instructor: Robert Gorczyca Learn basic PhotoShop and begin to understand this powerful yet simple art/ design computer application. This PhotoShop 101 class will get you started using basic tools, filters, layers, and color correction techniques that are simple to complete and easy to remember. This class is for anyone who wants to start small and slow, but end up creatively advanced in basic PhotoShop techniques. Students must have their own laptop to work from. Whether you re a beginner who has never tried your hand at lettering or you re an intermediate-letterer looking to pick up some pointers on style and design, this two day workshop will give you many fun, exciting ways to express yourself in letters! Many different styles and techniques will be covered, with instruction that will allow you to noticeably improve your lettering skills in a relatively short amount of time.
