2 1 Northville Art House Winter/Spring 2017 Programs REGISTER ONLINE AT IN THIS ISSUE: CLASSES & WORKSHOPS Welcome to the Northville Art House fall 2016 brochure. Register today for Fall Classes! The Northville Art house classes and workshops run daily from 9:00am until 9:00pm. We pride ourselves in offering small class sizes for both our 6 week classes and workshops, because of this we ask that all students preregister. Walk-in and last minute registrations may not be accommodated. Pre-registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and is required to guarantee supplies. Registration forms and full tuition payment must be received before the first class. Classes require at least three students enrolled in order to run or they will be cancelled. The Northville Art House reserves the right to cancel any class for any reason. In this event, students will receive a full refund. The Northville Art House does not prorate classes. A 50% discount will be given to any student who cancels their registration before the first class. After the first class, no refund will be given. Please note that some classes have an additional materials fee. These fees are payable to the instructor. Class prices are listed for members (M) and non-members (NM). 4 3 Kids Painting & Drawing CREATIVE ART SAMPLER Drawing, Painting & Clay Artists ages 8-12 will be introduced to a variety of different media tools & techniques in this fun sampler class. Drawing, painting, sculpture and more will be explored. Thursdays 4:30-6:00pm; (Additional $15 materials fee payable to instructor) Session 1: Jan. 12 th Feb. 16 th Young Artists DRAWING & PAINTING Kids ages 8-13: Learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and composition while exploring various subject matter including landscape, still life, nature, and dream imagery. Media explored include: pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolor, and acrylic paint on canvas. Wednesdays 4:30-6:00 pm; (Additional $15 materials fee payable to instructor) Session 2: Feb. 22 nd March 29 th Young Adults Crochet & Sculpture CROCHET CLASS 101 Instructor: Jenna Woodcox *ages 10 & up; limit 8 In this 3-week class students will learn how to make one of the most exciting winter staples A Slouchy Beanie! Student will learn several crochet techniques, take a way a crochet hook and be able to work on their own time to proactive in between classes. Written instructions will be provided and each student will leave the course with a finished hat. Participants can bring one skein of medium weight yarn of any fiber content to work with to class. Learn about watercolor paper, tools, paints, and techniques. Watercolor skills taught in the class will be used to create several new and completed projects. Drawing skills are helpful, but not necessary. Learn the various fun ways acrylic paint can be used. We will paint a variety of 2 & 3 dimensional subjects. Northville Art House Presents our first annual Young Artist Juried Art Fair CREATIVE KIDS 2ND SATURDAYS The joy of creative thinking and self-expression are brought to life in this popular once-a-month class for kids ages 5-12 years. Learn art history while creating projects via drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed-media. Each class offers unique scheduled activities in conjunction with the current professional exhibit on display in the Art House gallery, so attend more than once! Workshops are for one adult with one or two children. Share the experience of working on an art project together. Each class will be unique, so attend more than once! YOUNG ADULT CREATIVE ART STUDIO Instructor: Amber Valentine For ages 10-14: Each month, join the Art House for a night of creativity and fun with easy, one night, D-I-Y projects like candle making, paper mache, clay carving and more. Chill with your friends, meet new people, and listen to music while you snack, chat, and have a great time! The best part? You get to take home whatever you make with you that same night! We are looking for artists who are interested in selling their art work. We ve set up 3 days for students to bring in 5-7 samples of their original art work. Students will meet to discuss and show their art work with our instructors for a one on one opportunity for positive feedback. Session 1: April 11 th ; 5-7 pm Session 2: April 22 nd, 11am 1pm Session 3: April 23 rd, 2-4 pm The selected artists will be notified by and be able to sell their original art work under tents in the Northville Garden. Gelli Plate Printing & Collage Instructor Julie Woodard Limit 10 students Young artists ages 8-13 will learn a fun way to make decorative papers for collaging, scrapbooking, journaling, and more! Students will create colorful prints and use them in a collage. Each person will also get a mini gelli plate with recipe for home use. (limit 6) This popular summer camp is now a 2.5 hour workshop for kids who love to sew or are just starting out. Kids ages 9-13 will design and create their own fleece stuffed animal learning hand sewing techniques. Students will have several colors to choose from made of all cotton as well as written instructions to take home to replicate if desired, and as a crochet hook. This class is designed for beginning and intermediate students in calligraphy, with a step-by-step approach, but is also well suited for anyone who wants to brush up on their Italic. Calligraphy projects will be encouraged to take your work to a new level. Please tell us if you re left handed. This six week class will explore concepts of introspection, self-expression and self-growth as we discuss ways to live a healthier life. Using a sketchbook for various art related exercises throughout the class. The art exercises will help students understand how the creative process can help us grow and guide us to a place of deer self-understanding. No prior understanding of or background in art is required only an open mind. From canvas to computer, now you can create a professional looking art brochure/portfolio/ booklet for print and/or web viewing. Learn basic digital design and layout techniques using the different mediums to form a professional looking brochure/portfolio highlighting your personal art. The class will get you started using a basic layout application, helping you digitize your artwork, create and design with text, and ultimately combine those images to create a final project brochure/portfolio for print and/or digital use. Equipment needed: bring your laptop and your copy of Photoshop or any adobe cloud application. Each Student will make design and embellishment decisions enabling them to make their own unique piece of wearable are. Wet felting requires some physical exertion, but the effort is worth it. We will also explore using a glue gun to make stencil masques as part of the process. This class is a bit messy, so wear grubby clothes! JEWELRY WORKSHOP WRAP BRACELETS In this one day workshop you will learn how to make trendy wrap bracelets with leather and glass beads. Each student will make a bracelet that wraps around the wrist twice. But once you learn the simple stitch you will want to make more at home! (Additional $15 materials fee.) Tackling some very different mixed media projects from surrealism collages using vintage encyclopedias, old National Geographic s to making old dolls into art dolls by stripping their paint and giving them brand new faces using tiny brushes. Fine art techniques and tips on rerooting hair, sculpting and repainting clothing and more in this one of a kind class on mixed media! Students may bring additional materials. 13 12 LANDSCAPE PAINTING IN OIL Instructor: Edward Duff In this one-day studio workshop, students will learn to simplify and focus their vision to highlight the essentials of the landscape. Utilizing value studies and a limited color palette, we will explore the oil painting technique of Alla Prima (Italian for at first attempt ) creating vivid and dynamic works of art.
