1 Penticton Quilters Guild Newsletter May, Penticton Quilters Guild, Box 1064, Penticton, BC Presidents)Message) We will soon be coming to the end of our quilting year and with only 11 days until the opening of our Quilt show, a big thanks is due to all of the committees for their planning and hard work so far. Our AGM and luncheon will be held on May 27, which will wind up this really great year. It has been really nice to see so many of our new members jump right in and help out with the many little things that need to be done to make our guild successful. Our Community quilt sessions, workshops, and special extra activities over the year would not be successful without the participation of all members. Our stashbusting Brown Bag project will have its big reveal in May as will all of our Secret Buddies who will at last, get to sign their names on the final gift to their friends. Who knows what we might have in store for you next year. Don't forget to bring your potluck dish, serving spoon, plate and utensils with you on the 27th and we promise to show you a good time. Speaking of good times, I think the Osoyoos Guild did a fantastic job in making sure we all had a good time at the Gathering of the Guilds this past week end. With lots of little personal touches for the attendees, great Guest speakers with their individual trunk shows and a good sampling of local merchants to entice us with "pretties" and "must haves". Wind up Pot Luck May 27. This is our meeting to socialize and catch up before the busy Okanagan summer begins. Please bring your own plate, cup, and utensils. Don t forget food item, salad, entree, or dessert, enough for 6 or 8 with serving spoons. Just let me know and I will make arrangements for a pick-up or drop off. Remember to drop by and say Hi to the busy bees working at the Boutique, you may find just the thing you were looking for Great time to pick up some magazines you forgot to read in 2004 Thanks for all who donated items and for those who will be putting items on consignment, can't wait to see what you're selling. See you at the wind-up Paige Quilt Show 2015 Well ladies, we are down to the last 2 weeks. So many things to remember. Go thru your extra stuff to donate to the boutique, and put in the boutique whatever you want to sell (quilted items) Get your entries all bagged up and labeled. Sleeve and label instructions on the entry form. Make note of your volunteer hours. Paige is still looking for new items (extra) for her 2 gift draw baskets. Don t forget the quilt walk next week. AND MOST OF ALL SELL THOSE RAFFLE TICKETS. The dollars are needed to help fund our guild over the next 3 years. Community quilts We will have a nice display of our donation quilts at the show and then they will mostly be given away before our lunch at the end of May. 6 Penticton Quilters Guild April 8, 2015 Meeting Minutes President Pati de Broekert opened the meeting at 9:35 by welcoming previous member Joan Loewen as a guest. She also advised that long time member Alice Hodge had passed away on March 31. Kathleen Noble motioned to accept minutes from the March 11/15 meeting with Marg Jacques as second. Jane Rage and Eileen Zornes both volunteered to billet members of the Fraser Valley Quilt Guild for our show in May. President: Pati advised of the following up coming quilt shows: -Rock Creek, April 18 & 19, $5 admission -Kelowna, May 2 & 3, $5 admission -Fraser Valley Quilt Guild in Langley, June 12 & 13, $6 admission -Peachland s Form and Fibre - ongoing Tues - Sunday at the old school house -it is free of charge She also mentioned that we have received a thank you letter from CQA regarding our $200 donation towards prizes at the show in Lethbridge. Our Quilts of Valor program is in need of names of potential recipients, as we would like to do a presentation at our show in May...if you know of any, please let Pati know. Secret Buddy reveal will take place at our last meeting for this season on May 27 at the AGM and wind up luncheon. Treasurer s Report: Sherry Badger read the financial report. Programs: Kathleen Noble advised the following classes for next year: Sept: Wallets, by Pati de Broekert Oct: Jacket, by Kathy Sweeten Nov: Paper Piecing TBA Dec: Luncheon Jan: Photos to wallhanging by Pearl Morgenstern Feb: Precuts by Marilyn Govier Mar: Free Sew Apr: TBA Quilt Show Registry: Sharon Sutherland advised that she would still be taking registrations today and we currently have in excess of 190 quilts entered. Show and Tell was hosted by Barb Dow

7 Eileen Zornes did a demo on finishing the binding on a quilt. Library: Yvonne Mottishaw said that she has purchased 6 new books for the Library, 2 on Modern Blocks, and 4 on using various pre-cuts such as Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and Charm Packs. She has also subscribed to Quilters Connection for the fall, and she will be renewing Machine Quilting for another year. Stashbusters/Gathering of the Guilds: Rae French reminded us of the Brown Bag reveal on May 27. She has given 18 baby quilts to Interior Health and advised that they will not need any more until November. She directed any one attending the Gathering of the Guilds to see the last newsletter for directions on how to get to the event. She also showed a sample of the Black and White Bow Tie block that they are requesting be completed as a 6 1/2 inch square. Instructions for completion are also in the newsletter. Quilt Show Update: Pati had more inspiration flags on display. Boutique items need to be handed in by the April 22 workshop and if you are putting items on sale, a consignment sheet is available from Paige McKelvey. Marilyn Govier reminded us that we are only 1 month from Show-Day If you are putting anything into the Quilt Walk, the form is on-line, and items need to be submitted either at the April 22 workshop, or no later than April 29th to Marilyn. She will take them to the DBA who will distribute the quilts to various businesses for display for the 10 days prior to our show quilts are needed in any size EXCEPT king sized and they should have a hanging sleeve on the back. All entries into the show need to have a cloth bag with your entry #, name, address, and phone number attached. This info also needs to be on the back of your quilt in an area that is visible when the edge of the cloth bag is folded down as they will not have time to search for the info during registration. Linda advised that she would need all of the Raffle sales money by May 7. She also requested that anyone interested in stepping up to assume positions on the executive committee let her know...we still need a President and Vice President and she advised that these roles can be shared if need be. Helen Lawrence, Holly Stengle and Sue Hass said that they would willing to take on or share these roles. Diane said that the deadline for the April newsletter was April 28. Meeting was adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
