2 Philip Jacobs studied printed textiles at Hornsey College of Art from 1973 to He then worked freelance designing dress fabrics and designs for bedding for the American, Japanese and English markets. In the early 1980 s he started designing furnishing fabrics for most of the major English companies including Sanderson, Libertys, Bakers and Osborne and Little eventually becoming Design Director of Rammson & Crocker. Through Rammson & Crocker he designed furnishing collections for the major American companies including Brunschwig, Lee Jofa, Rose Cummings, Hinson, Baker Furniture etc., as well as collections for Marks & Spencer in England. Jacobs now works freelance and has over the years built up a vast archive of antique textiles and wallpapers from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries which serves both as reference guide and inspiration for his designs. The archive is stored in an old converted stable at his home in Dorset. He is now producing furnishing and wallpaper designs for Andrew Martin, Colefax & Fowler, Sanderson, Zoffany and is working with Kaffe Fassett producing the quilting designs for Westminster fabrics. Because, as he has stated, he was overflowing with inspiration, he established Snow Leopard Designs to market additional collections for Free Spirit under the Snow Leopard label. Jacobs work is not designed specifically for quilts. He leaves that to the people who buy his fabric because, he readily admits, he is not a quilter. I don t (Continued on Page 2....) 3 (,,,, Continued from Page 1) know how to sew two bits of cloth together. I m not a needle person. I m not a knitter, he has stated. He elaborates, I have ideas. I m not someone who actively designs the patterns to make a quilt, its just not my area of expertise. I leave that to other people and it amazes me what people create with my designs. His other interests include digging up fossil dinosaur bones on the Jurassic coast of Dorset near his home, and he has recently had a book of practical philosophy published in England and in the States. 2

She will push all of the buttons, manipulate all of the tensions, and show you all of your equipment s secrets! Classes are held on the 3rd Saturday of every Month at Quilt n Thyme Sew & Vac 9 am - 4 pm 1 hour lunch break - bring your own lunch and snacks 6 hours of free instruction for customers who have purchased a new Elna, Janome, or Necchi sewing machine from us. 8 As a postscript to this issue, the New Year brings changes to Quilt n Thyme Sew & Vac. As of January 1, 2016 our store will be under new ownership and co-management. Josh Steigman and Susan Bellamy will take on all of the responsibilities of managing store operations, with Josh assuming ownership and taking on the responsibilities of Sales and Marketing, and Susan taking on the responsibilities of accounting management and inventory control. Dan Steigman, though, for the most part absent, will perform in an advisory role. We have instituted a new point of sale, accounting, and record keeping system, as well as a new, expanded, and evolving website at Some of the website s added features include expanded offerings, giving our customers and visitors the ability and convenience of shopping online from their homes. Purchases can be shipped to the buyer at economical rates, or can be picked up at our store for no shipping costs whatsoever. * * * * * * * * * * * * PLEASE NOTE: Our store makes available display space to our customers to show off their work. However, because this editor works during off-hours to gather images for featuring customer works of art, if it is unlabeled he is unable to give credit where credit is due.
