Longarming: A Technical Exploration of Free-Motion Quilting Tuesday, January 3 9:30 am to 3:00 pm Gary Hoskins Tuesday, February 7 9:30 am to 3:00 pm Cost: $75.00 Tuesday, March 7 9:30 am to 3:00 pm This class focuses on teaching you the technical aspects of longarm quilting great for beginners and a must for new owners of longarm machines. Learn the technical background you need to become competent in the operation and regular maintenance of any longarm quilting machine. Explore the procedures of loading and operating a longarm with precision. Gary will teach you how to use your knowledge of Quilting T-N-T (thread, needles, tension) to your advantage. Gain a working knowledge of free-motion techniques including: stippling, templating, working with pantographs, etc., as well as which technique will be best applied to your quilt. You will leave this class with the skills and confidence needed to quilt your own quilts and move forward in your own quilting adventures. You may also schedule a one-on-one Individual Longarming Class Cost: $100 Do Your Own Longarm Quilting Rent Time on Our 2 Janome Artistic Quilters* *Longarm Rental Policy AZ Vac & Sew/Eagles Wings Quilting has 2 Janome Artistic Quilter Machines which you can rent in-store to do your own quilting. Requirements for Renting: 1. You must take Longarming: A Technical Exploration class at AZ Vac & Sew/Eagles Wings Quilting, and show proficiency in use prior to rental. 2. Three hours MINIMUM rental, at $25.00 per hour. The rental fee must be paid at the time of reservation. If you are unable to keep your rental time slot, and you notify us 48 hours in advance, the rental fee will be transferred to another time that is more convenient for you. 3. Your quilt must be removed from the longarm within 30 minutes after your allotted time. This will allow us adequate time to prepare the longarm for the next reservation. AZ Vac & Sew/Eagles Wings Quilting will Provide: 1. Assistance by Tim or Gary. 2. Pins and needles. Oiling and changing of needles on the longarm. 3. Replacement of the needle should it break during quilting time.

You will work on a project and go in depth to see the must-have features that will not only make your sewing easier but will also enable you to be more creative. We will hold three sessions: Two 3 hour classes one with a sewing machine and one with an embroidery machine choose the one that suits your interests. One 6 hour class that combines both sewing and embroidery. In addition, Valora will also present a trunk show before the 6 hour class. Taking advantage of this offer means that in addition to being able to spread your work out on our 6 tables, you will have access to large raised cutting tables and an ironing board. And, of course, this is not to mention the good company! Monthly Cost: $5 Generally 4th Saturdays 10:30 am to 11:00 am January 28 February 25 March 25 Let your creative juices flow! Each month you will receive a fat quarter from our chosen selection of 12 different fabrics and a copy of 1 of 12 different shapes. You ll go home and create 2 blocks one to Share and one to Keep using the fabric and shape in any way. The next month, you ll bring back your Share block to enter into a drawing for all of the blocks that month. 12 months 12 shapes 12 winners! Each participant will win all of one month s blocks at least once. Embroidery Club Ann Weinbrecht Cost: $7.00/month Yearly Registration Fee: $ st Fridays 10:00 am to 12:00 pm January 13* This club is sure to strengthen your machine embroidery skills and expand your vision. Stay tuned to our weekly s for specifics on each class. Projects will be determined based on your needs and interests, so be sure to share them with us. *Note that because of the holidays, these classes are the 2nd week of January. Class Policies 1. Payment for class, books, and patterns is due at time of registration. Get your Class Supply List at that time. Books and patterns will be distributed at class. 2. Any items that you purchase in-store from the Class Supply List are 20% off. 3. Some classes have prep work. Review your Class Supply List so you are ready. 4. If you will be less than 15 minutes late to class, please call. If you are any later, the instructor reserves the right to catch you up on the project, or to reschedule with you. Cancellation of Class 1. Full refund of class fee will be given if the store cancels the class. 2. If you cancel 5 or more days before class, you will be given a store credit. 3. No refund will be given if you cancel class with less than 5 days notice. You may apply the fee to another class, but only once. If that class is also not taken, the fee is forfeited. 4. Cut fabric, books, patterns & opened notions are not refundable. Basic Quilting/Sewing Supplies To Bring to Class Sewing machine with manual, foot pedal, & cord. Extra machine needles. Paper & pencil. Rotary cutter with sharp blade, rulers, & cutting mat. Thread, seam ripper, pins. Scissors for snipping threads, for cutting fabric, & for cutting paper. All items on Class Supply List. Note: We believe quilting and sewing are valuable life skills for all. Please talk to us if a payment plan is needed.

6 Recurring Classes and Events Exciting Changes Starting in February: Our JEC Club will be incorporated into our Embroidery Club Embroidery Club Ann Weinbrecht Cost: $7.00/day that you attend Yearly Registration Fee: $ st Tuesdays and the following Thursdays February 7 & 9 March 7 & 9 10:00 am to 12:00 pm This club will continue to broaden your machine embroidery skills and expand your vision. Each month, Ann will lead you in a project to expand your knowledge and take full advantage of your amazing machine s capabilities. In order to facilitate the completion of projects, this club will have a 2 day format begin your projects on Tuesday, and if you need to (or just plain want to), come back on Thursday to finish up with Ann. (The Thursday class is an additional $7.) The specifics for each month s projects will be listed in our weekly s. Once the projects have been determined, the supply lists and preparatory instructions will be available in the store, or they can be ed to you. Ann brings many great ideas to the club, but we also want the projects to be based on your needs and interests, so be sure to let Ann know what they are.

7 Special Classes & Events Beginning Serging Ron Sanchez Cost: $20 Thursday, January 12 9:30 am to 11:30 am Thursday, February 9 9:30 am to 11:30 am Thursday, March 23 9:30 am to 11:30 am In this basics class you will learn the most important thing...threading YOUR MACHINE!!! Once you have mastered threading and rethreading, you will start on your journey to the perfect stitches for each of the fabrics you have brought to class. You will learn what each stitch on your serger is used for and how to get the most out of your machine. Rulers Rock Pam Varner Cost:$75* Saturday, January 7 9:30 am to 3:30 pm *Lunch Incl Pam Varner, directly from Sew Steady, will teach how to use your own Westalee Designs Free-Motion Quilting Templates. In this class, you will learn the basics of Ruler Work and how to use the rulers in the Westalee Designs Free-Motion Quilting SAMPLER TEMPLATE SET 1 package. You will learn how to use the spacing gauge, the reference lines, and what that bumpy tape is. Tips, tricks, and laughs will fill out the day. You will leave with the confidence you need to add ruler work to your own quilt tops. Lunch is included. (Your machine MUST HAVE an extension table.) Class size limited to 20. Aussie Drop Shadow Quilt Kenci Lewis Cost: $35 Tuesday, January 31 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Here's a quilt to showcase those fascinating Australian fabrics you have been collecting. Kenci will show you piecing techniques and offer tips on how to make this a fun and quick project. Class sample is nap size and can be easily adjusted to twin, queen or king. So join us, Mates, for a trip Down Under. Quilt As You Sew & Reversible, too! Kenci Lewis Cost: $35 If you are looking to tame your fear of machine quilting, take it one block at a time. Learn the Quilting As You Sew and Block Joining Techniques that were used in this table runner sample. In this class, you will learn to quilt individual blocks or rows and then connect them in a variety of ways that are easy and spark your creativity. This technique gives you an added bonus of making a different design on the back, so you get two quilts in one. (Your project will be different than this. See the sample in the store.) Easy Landscapes Lecture Trish Hastings-Sargent Cost: $35 Saturday, February 25 9:30 am to 12:30 pm Trish will help you create realistic landscape fabric art from your original photographs. Your imagery will keep its realistic look because she will teach you how to keep in mind some very important elements including perspective, foreground, mid-ground, background, and the direction of the light source. Trish will share her process, tips, and secrets in this three hour talk. Easy Landscapes Hands-on Lab Trish Hastings-Sargent Cost: $20 Saturday, February 25 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm Do you already have a photo in mind that you would like to work on? Bring your enlarged photo with you (Trish recommends 11 x14 ), along with a few other supplies. After attending the Easy Landscapes Lecture, stay for the Lab and Trish will help you turn it into your own piece of art.

8 Special Classes & Events Sit Down and Quilt! Kenci Lewis Cost: $60 Thursday, March 2 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Fall is coming, along with more time to turn those quilt tops into finished quilts. Join us for a fun and informative day of learning to quilt on your sit down domestic machine. You will learn tips, tricks, and techniques for freemotion as well as straight-stitch quilting. Stop in to see Kenci s larger sample of stitches and techniques that you will be exploring. The first class will be 3 hours long (in order to jump-start your paper-piecing), but thereafter, the classes will be 2 hours each. Yes, you will bring your machine and sew with the class--this is not a "pick up the pattern and chat" type of Block of the Month. The classes will generally be the 2nd Saturday of the month. Lisa is fully committed to the monthly classes, but reserves the right to adjust the weeks for which the class is currently scheduled to accommodate her vacations. We will give you as much notice as possible. (Note that March's class is scheduled for the 3rd Saturday.) Your class fee each month will cover the cost of Lisa's patterns for each block (which retail for $15 each), the 2 hour class (a $35 value), and the fabric for the inside of each block's circle. You will be responsible to provide a fat quarter for each ring each month and the turquois fabric for the background. Also, you will choose and provide the fabric for the sashing, the border, the binding, and the backing. The fabrics in your quilt will vary slightly from those pictured.
