1 SDANG News President s Message October 2018 Dear Stitchers, Welcome to the fall. I am loving the cooler weather, and the weatherman says we may even see some rain. Hurray!!! This means time indoors to sit and stitch. I hope many of you are doing the Orient Express kimono that Nancy Holub is teaching. I am doing it in shades of lavender and love it. Also, the Maker s Faire in Balboa Park is October 6 & 7. It takes a lot of work to put that together and we need to thank Margi Thornburgh and Laura Breen for all their efforts. I hope you were able to volunteer to teach cross-stitch, embroidery and needlepoint. Remember, November 1st is the deadline for submitting a Halloween Ribbon for our Chapter to donate to National and be awarded at the next seminar in Houston. The health benefits of crafting are: It s a mood booster; it relieves stress; it builds self-esteem; it enhances dexterity and coordination; and it boosts brainpower. Any of these reasons are enough to make you want to stitch. 3 October 2018 Page 3 Maker Faire at Balboa Park Laura Breen designed these bargello ornaments that will be used to teach needlepoint at the Maker Faire this year. Show and Tell Shirley Chin is close to finishing the stitching of her variation of Toni Gerdes American Flag from Seminar She also completed another of Mary Alice Sinton s What a Hoot beading designs in addition to both color ways of the Wild Child workshop pieces. Sandy Higgins finished the wallets and appliquéd the owl to a jacket.

Margie Thornburg did the finishing. Nancy DeGuia finished stitching the Plum Blossom Kimono and East Meets Southwest Kimono designs by Margaret Bendig.
