4 The right needle makes a difference in the look of your finished product. Generally, tapestry needles are used for needlepoint, but if you need to pierce the canvas or work with silk ribbons, use a chenille needle the same size as your tapestry needle. The sharp point allows you to pierce the canvas or ribbon, while the large eye is easy to thread. For bullions, you may wish to use a milliner s needle or a needle designed for dollmaking or bullions. These needles are long and have a straight shaft, making it easier to slide the wrapped thread over the eye. Beading needles with a narrow shaft are designed to pass through the hole of the beads. The Needle Index is a handy tool for organizing your needles and deciding which needle to use. The guide contains pages for twelve types of needles, along with descriptions, recommended sizes, and wool felt for storage. A table behind each piece of wool provides guidelines for which size needle to use with different thread weights. She has one Needle Nest for each size and type of needle she commonly uses. For example, one for Tapestry 22, another for Chenille 24. 5 Back to Basics Bad habits broken here The name says it all. In this notebook class, Tony will help you improve your stitching by taking you back to basics. You will learn new techniques and review those you may have forgotten stitching pathways, beginning and ending stitches, and much more. You will leave this class with increased confidence and skills to make your canvas perfect. Canvas Enhancement A Canvas enhancement class with Tony is a great way to learn new techniques and stitches on a canvas purchased at the Needle Works. Select a canvas from your stash or, better yet, get that new canvas you love. We ll send it to Tony, and he will select the perfect threads and write a stitch guide with personalized diagrams just for you and your canvas. When class starts, you will work one-on-one with Tony to learn the stitches and perfect your technique. These classes always fill quickly, so sign up now! A variety of combination stitches fill the patches with yellow, orange and green shades. This is a great project for combining threads and stitches and includes silks, metallics, and memory wire. We ve finished ours as a tabletop standup for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Kelly s Pear Club features geometric patterns, small motifs, decorative stitches, appliqué, ribbons, beads, and buttons. We ll start with the green geometric pear on August 12 and follow up with a different pear each month. Kits will include vintage buttons so each will be unique. Corliss will teach the Thursday evening classes using Kelly s stitch guides, with a few variations. 7 For our grand re-opening, Kelly Clark has designed this wonderful Texas Picnic Basket for The Needle Works filled with bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, Texas treats and Lone Star longnecks. Kelly will be on hand to teach the class in the new store. The threedimensional basket features Kelly s needleweaving technique. The wildflowers are created with silk ribbon, and beads top the cherry pie. Stanton teaches throughout Australia and contributes to Inspirations and other magazines. As a left-handed embroiderer, Stanton has produced this publication to share her experience and knowledge.
