Not your average quilter/designer, she s been published in Quilters magazine, tests patterns and prototypes for several companies, is vice president of the Quilters Hall of Fame and exhibit chairman for the Historic Marie Webster House in Marion. Sweet BOM for beginners The Honey Sweet sampler is a great project for beginning quilters. Each block gives you a different piecing experience. You ll get fabric for the blocks and information at the monthly meetings (6:30-7:00 the fourth Tuesday of the month, beginning in February). The cost can t be beat. $10 to sign up, $5 for your first block. If you complete each block and bring it to the next meeting, you get the next block for free. 2 BOW - wow! Make a quilt one small block a week Make a fun, traditional quilt in our first Block of the Week using 28 richly colored fabrics from Judie's Authentic Miniatures by Judie Rothermel. The easy-to-sew 6-inch blocks transform into a beautiful 70-by-70-inch quilt. There s a bonus with this BOW: When you ve finished the quilt, you'll have a 50-block pattern book. Create a silk scarf Try your hand at learning the ancient technique of shibori silk dyeing in this class designed for the absolute beginner. Instructor Sylvia Gray, our Fiber Artist of the Month, will cover several different forms of shibori, including banding, clamping and arashi (meaning rainstorm for the look it produces). You met our challenge Our yearlong Make a Difference campaign to help neighbors in need is off to a rousing start. There are many appreciative children and adults sporting the more than 100 hats and gloves or mittens you donated during January. Good Samaritan Network is distributing the colorful collection. In February, we re supporting the kitties at the Humane Society of Hamilton County, which needs 24-by-24-inch blankets. Fleece tied ones are perfect and easily made from your stash. Or, kits are $5.
