I think we have an amazing group of people who make this organization run smoothly. However, some of these volunteers have been doing their jobs for a long time and might be interested in turning their committee over to someone new. If you are interested, talk to the current committee chair and see if you can learn the trade so that you can take over next year. Please remember we are an organization of volunteers and it is important that we talk about things as unemotionally, calmly, and constructively as possible to avoid hurt feelings. If you think a job could be done better (improvement to the process) or that YOU could do it better because of (choose your reason), please talk it over with the current committee chair before you just change things. Together you can discuss the reasons a current procedure is effective or is ready for enhancement. We don t want to lose members (or chairs) because someone thinks someone else is belittling them in some way. We also need to discuss the use of the guild rooms. We pay the school for a limited number of hours on these rooms and should NOT be using them for reasons that are not guild related. Please coordinate with the key holders (myself and Maryann) before you think about using these rooms. The rooms are open every Wednesday from 8 to 12, and on the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesdays they are open in the afternoon and evening for Doris class. They are also open on the first Monday from 6 to approximately 9, and other Mondays if we re holding a blue moon. Candy

As your new Secretary, I wanted to let you know how excited I am to be learning more about the workings of the Guild. You are a great group of ladies to work with having a huge talent dedicated to accomplishing and producing much for your Guild and the community. As background, I want you to know I have been a Guild member for 6 or 7 years. I took my first real quilting class in Bozeman, MT, in Wow! One would think I was an expert by now but I consider myself a long time beginner! I love the process, the idea of being productive, and leaving some kind of legacy for my grandchildren. At age 66 I am really pushing myself to learn new techniques, create, and use that right brain. It is an exciting way to retire and certainly gives me lots of sister time. Happy stitching, Diane Williams

It should be a lot of fun, just pick a dance and make a quilt no problem!! If you do sign up but you run out of time to finish it is NOT a crisis, just another UFO. 9 May 2015 Hummingbird Stitchers Quilt Guild Newsletter Free Quilting Technique Classes Page 9 Doris Wells has volunteered to teach a free quilting class on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month. The afternoon sessions begin at 1:15 pm; evening at 6:15 pm. Each session should last about 1-1/2 hours (this is flexible). The two sessions, afternoon and evening, will cover the same topic. These classes are meant to explore each topic in depth and will take the time needed to master each topic. Please feel free to join in for any topic that piques your interest. If you are not on the mailing list and wish to attend, please send a message to: doriswells@q.com and I will add your name to our happy band. **What s Coming Up in May Technique classes ** May 6 and 20 The techniques class spent four sessions in March and April working on projects from the Dream Landscapes book. In addition to mastering a new way of sewing curved seams (with no pain), we did a lot of embellishing beading, embroidering by hand and with the sewing machine, and using hot fix crystals. The members of the group were SO creative in thinking up new and different ways to finish the projects. So what is on the horizon? We are beginning a series on color. It will be very hands on, using fabric scraps to experiment with many different combinations of hue, value and intensity. We cover the same material in each session, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule best. If you have considered jumping into the classes, this would be a great time to come join us. There have been two suggestions for the next topics: beading and stack n whack quilts. All are welcome to attend. It is also fine to come as an observer. If you are not a guild member, you may come to classes, but after two or three classes we would expect you to join the guild. Bring chocolate for an especially warm welcome! Suggestions for topics are welcome. For information contact Doris Wells (doriswells@q.com)or if you wish to get the notes so you can come when a topic is of interest to you, just drop me a note. I will add you to my mailing list and send those notes as they are ready.
