4 Oh Goody! 2 Commercial patterns for your collection 2 of the 9-section plastic binder pages for samples Try a New Stitch...Roumanian Stitch Also known as Roman Stitch, Roumanian stitch can be used to create a broad outline or as a filling. Draw two lines on the fabric. They can be straight lines parallel to each other or a shape like a leaf. Is it time to renew? If this is your last issue, a notice will be on the front page of your newsletter. Send in your renewal of $15 to continue your membership. You will continue to receive the Youth Embroiderers News, goodies, access to affordable correspondence courses, EAC exhibitions, Eleanor Thomas Youth Award, Leonida Leatherdale Library, prizes, PLUS much more - so, please don t let your membership expire. See page 13 for the renewal form, if you want to use it. Otherwise, just send in your cheque or use a credit card on the EAC secure site. Don t drop your membership! Step 1: Bring the thread to the front at (A). Take the needle down at (B) and up at (C) making sure the thread is below the needle. Pull the thread through so thread A-B it lies flat on the fabric. Step 2: The working thread should be kept above the A-B thread. Go down at (D), which is below and to the left of (C), and come out at (E). Pull the thread through. Go down at F and back up at (G), which is below and to the right of (D). Continue working Steps 1 and 2 until the shape is filled in. To finish, work a final Step 2 and take the needle to the back below and to the left of where you came out, but do not re-emerge on the left hand side. Pull the thread through and end off on the back of the fabric. The Roumanian stitches will look like Step 3 when finished. The A-B and E-F stitches will be next to each other with the C-D and D-G stitches in the middle and slightly slanted. A C B E D F G Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Diagrams and directions by Linda Brenner. 8 Star Wars Name I am sure there are a lot of Star Wars fans out there. I recently saw the newest movie and I loved it! When I came across this item on how to form your Star Wars name, I just couldn t resist including it in the newsletter. Take the first three letters of your last name and put them with the first two letters of your first name. This makes your first name. For your surname (or last name), take the first two letters of your mother s maiden name and combine them with the first three letters of where you were born. My Star Wars name is Breli Papul (Brenner Linda Paine Pullman). I like my Star Wars first name, but I m not so sure about the last name. I even tried the state where I was born and it turned out Pawas. Not an improvement. I even tried the country I was born in and it came out to be Pausa. That s a bit better, but not by much, so I guess I ll stay with Papul. Try it out for yourself and see what you come up with! Send me your Star Wars name and I ll send you a goody! Wild Daisys I received this picture and note in the mail recently from Nadia. I really enjoyed seeing Nadia s progress and learning how much she enjoys stitching. Nadia sent a picture that appeared in a previous newsletter and she received a book as her goody for sharing. Nadia has been a Youth member for a little over a year and I loved her Wild Daisys. Way to go, Nadia! Spooky Patch Fall 2015 Page 8

10 Stitchers Alphabet K to O From the Aran Sweater to the Zig Zag Stitch, the love of needlework is this alphabet s theme. Each letter block represents a unique stitching pleasure possessed by the hearts and hands of stitchers everywhere. They can be stitched, beaded, and embellished as individual motifs or stitched together on your fabric of choice to create a Stitcher s Sampler. The model pictured here was stitched over two threads on 28 count Tea-Dyed Monaco by Charles Craft. Finished dimensions will vary depending on fabric count and placement of the blocks in the composition. Fall 2015 Page 10
