If you've ever participated in a wedding, you know how much work it is. Because I do a lot of sewing, my son asked me if I would make table toppers for the reception. I ended up making 16 gold lamé table toppers with superhero centres. I also made eleven quilted tote bags, 1 for the bride, 3 for the bridesmaids, 2 for the mothers of the bride and groom, 3 for their aunties and 2 for their grandmothers. Each tote bag was different, but all were made in Gryffindor colours and had their initials sewn on with rose monteé jewels. My son and his bride are big fans of comic books, wrestlers, Dr. Who and Harry Potter and the wedding had all those elements included. In this issue, you'll find the following patterns: Checkers the Pumpkin by Pamela Kellogg for Kreinik. Pumpkin Patch Pin by Mary Cozgrove for Kreinik. Lady s Slipper Mug Mat by Joyce Gill. White Christmas Bookmark by Pam Kellogg for Kreinik. The goody is enough felt to make 4 of the Lady's Slipper Mug Mats. After purchasing the books you received with the donation from the Saskatchewan guild, we had enough left over to buy the felt for these mug mats designed by EAC's very own Joyce Gill. I hope you'll send me pictures when you've finished one so I can put the picture into the newsletter and on the website. That would be so exciting! EAC is not doing ATCs this year, instead we have a new Art Tile Exchange. This could be a lot of fun and details are on page 7. I hope you participate in this fun exchange. Check out the EAC website at and click on Challenges and you'll see the Design Challenge for Send $5 to Joyce Gill, PO Box 666, Cornwall, PE C0A 1H0 and receive a fat quarter of special EAC fabric (picture shown above). Put on your thinking caps and unleash your creativity and design a promotional item using the fabric. When your item is completed, mail it back to Joyce by April 1, It will be on display at Seminar 2015 in Calgary and the winner will be announced at that time. It could be chosen and produced for sale. That s it for now, so happy stitching! Summer 2014 Page 2

5 Oh Goody! Enough felt to make 4 of the Lady`s Slipper Mug Mats. 4 squares 7x7 burgundy felt 4 squares 5x5 cream felt 4 squares 3x3 green felt 4 squares 2x2 rose felt Is it time to renew? If this is your last issue, a notice will be on the front page of your newsletter. Send in your renewal of $15 to continue your membership. You will continue to receive the Youth Embroiderers News, goodies, access to affordable correspondence courses, EAC exhibitions, Eleanor Thomas Youth Award, Leonida Leatherdale Library, prizes, PLUS much more - so, please don t let your membership expire. Try a New Stitch...Herringbone Stitch Herringbone Stitch can be used as a border or a filler. Bring the needle up at 1 along an imaginary stitching line. Insert needle at 2, diagonally above 1 and bring the needle out at 3. Insert the needle at 4 and bring out at 5. Continue in this manner working from left to right. To make it easier to follow a stitching line, baste in the top line where you want it and then baste in the second line. After working the Herringbone stitches, take out the basting threads. A B C D The last stitch on the right that only goes halfway completes the Herringbone Stitch when used in a straight line (A). You can also do a half stitch at the beginning of the line. The bottom three Herringbone stitches show what it looks like when the top and bottom stitches are closer together (B), with the top and bottom stitches touching (C) and with the top and bottom stitches overlapping (D).
