For example, I would like to get it so that the Fall 2015 issue is mailed to you in the Fall of I want to thank each and every one of you for your patience and understanding that you showed when my life interfered with the production of the newsletters. In this issue, we have the following patterns: Baseball by Pam Kellogg for Kreinik Bookmark 6 by Whispered by the Wind Cock-a-Doodle-Doo by Homeberries Koi Pond by Cross Stitch Happy Sleepy Little Lambs by Brooke Nolan for Brooke s Books Publishing Soccer Ball by Pam Kellogg for Kreinik This is a short newsletter as I have no news for you. All of the EAC challenges and contests are finished. A new challenge will be unveiled at Seminar It will be included in the first newsletter sent when Seminar is over. As always, please send me pictures of your work, updates on what you re working on now, answers to the riddles and Jumble, etc. Anything would be lovely and I ll include it in the next newsletter. That s it for now, so enjoy and Happy Stitching! A Jumble for you Unscramble the following names of stitches to find the letters that form the answer to the riddle. P L I S T L I T E R L S H I C N A H A F E S Why was the Youth Embroiderer such a good joke teller? Because she keeps everyone in! 4 Sleepy Little Lambs Why did the woman wear a helmet at the dinner table? If you don t want to make baby booties with this design, put them back to back and make a scissors fob. Or, make a hanging ornament by making a fringe on the edges and attach a cord to the back. Summer 2014 Page 4

5 Oh Goody! Use these goodies to stitch the Soccer or Baseball. 7 x 7 Aida, 16 count 1/4 skein embroidery floss in three colours; black, white and green One pattern Instead of backstitching the grass in backstitch on the Soccer or Baseball, use the Cable Stitch! Also, instead of using the Kreinik braids, use blending filament instead with your embroidery floss instead. It is easier to find, less expensive and provides sparkle. Is it time to renew? If this is your last issue, a notice will be on the front page of your newsletter. Send in your renewal of $15 to continue your membership. You will continue to receive the Youth Embroiderers News, goodies, access to affordable correspondence courses, EAC exhibitions, Eleanor Thomas Youth Award, Leonida Leatherdale Library, prizes, PLUS much more - so, please don t let your membership expire. See page 13 for the renewal form, if you want to use it. Otherwise, just send in your cheque or use a credit card on the EAC secure site. Don t drop your membership! Also known as Side to Side Stem Stitch Work this stitch from left to right. Try a New Stitch...Cable Stitch Bring the thread through on the design line at A. Insert the needle a little to the bottom of the design line at B and bring the needle out a little to the top of the design line at C. Thread should be below the needle and pull the thread through. Stitch 1-2 now completed. Insert the needle a little to the top of the design line at D and keep the thread above the needle. Bring the needle out a little to the bottom of the design line at B (can share the hole with Stitch 1-2). Pull the thread through. Stitch 3-4 now completed. Continue working the stitches, alternating the position of the thread. An easy way to remember how to position the thread: When working the top row, the thread will be above the needle. When working the bottom row, the thread will be below the needle. C D A B Diagrams and directions by Linda Brenner. Licensed to Embroiderers Association of Canada, Inc. Summer 2014 Page 5
