1 Three Bags Full l knitting n studio Volume No. 17 Issue No. 1 Winter 2019 Dear Fellow Knitters and Crocheters, We ve had a very busy and fun fall. I hope you ve enjoyed some of our special events and classes. It all began with the Chicago Yarn Crawl and our Isager trunk show and swatching class. Most of the designs from Helga Isager s collection in K (Knit) are still in the shop. We ve enjoyed trunk shows featuring Myak yarns and The Fibre Company s new yarn Lore. Jan Hurwitz, from Rowan, brought us an evening of the Fall Rowan Collection. Last but not least, Arne & Carlos funfilled day of classes and an evening lecture was very inspiring! Looking forward to the Winter Session, this newsletter is chock full of classes for all skill levels of knitters and crocheters! Included are several Arne & Carlos projects: their Teddy Bear knit with sock yarn and their Knitted Birds. Linda has knit samples so you can see them in the shop. The Primrose Throw and other Arne & Carlos crocheted projects are the focus of a class taught by Suzy. Jillian returns with another yoke patterned sweater class, Umpqua. Mary is back with her Uniform Cardigan class that has been a huge success this fall. It s a great class for tailoring a sweater to your shape and personal style. We ve seen many great versions of this sweater from her students. Mary is also offering a class on the Out of Africa coat. This is a very popular design by Marianne Isager but the pattern is a bit challenging so Mary will guide you through those rough patches. Linda s Big Baskets and Continental Knitting classes are back by popular demand. Her Shift class, a cowl by Andrea Mowry, has been a hit and so she s offering a class on the shawl version called Nightshift. Movie Night Mittens is a fun colorful mitten that Diana will teach. Penny has classes for a shawl, tunic or baby outfit. Chunky pillows either knit (taught by Jill) or crocheted (taught by Kathy) are on the schedule. Kathy s adding a Saturday Beginning Crochet class too! Jill is teaching two shawl classes, Ess and Snowdrift. Both feature interesting stitch work. The Soiree Sweater class with cable detail is also on her agenda. Adrienne is offering a class for teens on Thursday afternoons. We re planning several trunk shows this winter with hand-dye companies. When dates are set we ll send out a notice. Thank you all for supporting your local yarn shop. It means the world to us! Latvian braid, corrugated ribbing, knitting in the round and colorwork are some of the techniques which will be taught in this class. Friday Afternoon 2 4 p.m., January 18, 25, February 15 $66 ISAGER CHAIR CUSHION This mitered square cushion is a handsome design for that chair that needs a little more comfort and color. At the headquarters for Isager yarns in Tversted, Denmark each chair is adorned with one of these cushions. Add a little color to your chairs! Tuesday Afternoons 1:00-3:00 p.m., March 5, 12, 19 $66 Remember to sign up early for our project and skills classes. Classes with low enrollment are cancelled three days prior to the class. 5 ARNE & CARLOS TEDDY BEAR This adorable teddy bear is knit with Arne & Carlos patterning sock yarn. Students should have intermediate level knitting skills and double-pointed needle experience. Linda will guide you through this pattern using some helpful modifications. Thursday Morning 10 a.m noon, January 17, 24, 31, February 14 $88 ARNE & CARLOS KNITTED BIRDS This is another fun project compliments of Arne & Carlos. See how you can create a knitted bird with personality! Pattern involves using double pointed needles and working short rows. Linda is your talented teacher! Tuesday Afternoons 1-3 p.m., January 29, February 5, 12 $66 OUT of AFRICA by Marianne Isager This is a gorgeous lace-patterned coat that has been a hit among staff and customers alike. While the pattern presents some challenges in interpretation, Mary has conquered it and will guide you through this project. For sure, you will be proud of your finished Out of Africa! Thursday Afternoon 12 noon 2 p.m., January 17, 24, February 7, 21, March 7 $110 BLAISE by Ambah O Brien This versatile triangular scarf uses a gradient color pack against a main color background. It s a fun to play with color class and as you might expect it s being taught by Penny. Tuesdays Midday 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m., January 15, 22, February 5 $60 SHIBUI MIX 19 by Lidia Tsymbal or ANGELOU by Shellie Anderson According to Shibui Yarns, these sweaters can be your winter statement piece. Both are tunics. One has a boat-neck neckline and is color blocked. The other has a mock turtleneck collar in a contrasting fiber. 6 UMPQUA SWEATER by Caitlin Hunter Jillian s Tecumseh sweater class enjoyed it so much they encouraged Jillian to offer the Umpqua sweater class, another Caitlin Hunter design with a colorwork yoke. It is worked from the bottom up. According to Caitlin Hunter, it s a great project to take on your next camping trip or not. Monday Evenings 7-9 p.m., February 4, 18, March 4 $66 ESS SHAWL by Anna Maltz This triangular shawl involves an epic cast-on. It is worked in the round and is steeked which includes the fringe. There s a little homework prior to class so we can accomplish a lot. Saturday Morning 9:30 a.m. 12 p.m., March 9 $30 Payment for classes at time of registration reserves your space in a class. If there are not enough students registered to hold a class, a full refund will be given. A refund less a $10 administrative fee will be given to students withdrawing from a class up to 3 days prior to the class. No refunds will be given after that point. Due to scheduling difficulties, there are no make-up classes. If you re a thrower and want to be a picker, this is the class for you!
