Beginning on March 31 we will be starting a sampler afghan knit-a-long! Each month attendees will receive free patterns to complete two afghan squares. Each square will highlight a different knitting stitch or technique. If you are a new knitter, this is a great way to expand your skills and get more confident with your knitting. Need help? You will have fellow knitters and staff there to answer all of your questions. If you re an experienced knitter, this is a great way to show your creativity using color, yarn, etc. There are a total of 10 different squares designs which are repeated throughout the afghan. 2 KNITTING SOCKS FROM THE TOE-UP using one circular needle with Mara Lloyd THURS., APRIL 9 THURS., APRIL 16 SAT., APRIL 25 6:00 PM 9:00PM 6:00 PM 9:00 PM 11:00 AM 12:00 PM This 3-part class will explore another method of knitting socks from the toe up using one long circular needle. Using a chunky yarn Part 1 You will learn a circular cast-on. Part 2 Learn a super easy heel without picking up the gusset. Part 3 Finish the sock with and an elastic bind off for the top of the leg. Participants must be able to knit and purl. Free pattern included with class. $69 (Materials-Size 8 circular needles length and yarn are not included. ) SUMMER SHAWLETTE with Vicky Harvey SAT., MAY 9 1:30 PM 4:30 PM CLASS REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION POLICY You may register for class in person, by phone ( ), mail, or on our website ( Reserve your class space with payment in advance. Space can be limited and classes can fill up early, so you may miss out on attending if you do not sign up early. Full refund cancellations will be accepted up to one week before class begins (special events and multi-session classes may have a different cancellation policy) so that we may contact those on our waiting list. Store credits, less a $5.00 handling fee will be given for cancellations less than one week prior to class. In the event that a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, instructor illness, etc., the class will be re-scheduled, when possible, or full refunds will be given. Supplies are not included in classes unless otherwise stated. 3 Special Guest Instructor CAROLINA SHIBORI SHAWLETTE with Michael del Vecchio SAT., JUNE 6 10:00 AM 1:00PM Join Michael del Vecchio for a fantastic exploration of modern shibori using the Alchemy Yarns of Transformation. In this 3 hour class, we ll learn and practice simple lace, reading charts, and the style of modern shibori unique to Alchemy. You ll learn all about the tips and tricks of working with the unique Silken Straw - plus, you ll learn about the felting & finishing that will turn this one of a kind project into a true masterpiece. New Yarns for Babies... About MIchael del Vecchio Leslye writes: With a name like Michael del Vecchio, this very entertaining, down to earth, friendly knitter was a pleasure to meet. His warm personality made me feel like an old friend I've know for years. I think you'll love meeting him, using the two skeins of this gorgeous yarn, and experiencing his fun class. Michael del Vecchio has worked in the industry since learning to knit in He has worked in yarn stores throughout the DC metro region, and taught thousands of students at yarn stores around the country. In 2006, he released Knitting with Balls: A Hands-on Guide to Knitting for the Modern Male - a collection of 30 designs for men, and became a regular contributor to Knit n Style magazine. Since 2009, he has lived in Charlotte and through July of 2014, he had led product development and all garment design for Universal Yarn, then Premier Yarns, The Deborah Norville Collection, and Isaac Mizrahi Craft. He has designed thousands of garments for publication. Currently, he works as an independent sales rep specializing in fashion & hand-dyed yarn and fiber, and collaborates with mills abroad to develop new yarn and craft product. He still loves to knit. MY PATTERN SAYS WHAT? with Vicky Harvey SAT., JUNE 13 1:30 PM 4:30 PM Do you find yourself reading a pattern over and over and saying, "I don't understand?" Are you afraid to attempt something beyond a scarf because of your limited or previously frustrating experience in following written patterns? This class will give you a world of information so you can navigate any pattern. This class includes understanding the consistent language of knitting abbreviations; how to take correct measurements; and the difference among asterisks, parentheses, and brackets. Establish a level of comfort when directed by a pattern to do two different kinds of shaping at once, or simultaneous multiple tasks. Learn how to make sweaters with finishing in mind. Learn how to choose your correct size from the ones listed in the pattern. Become more comfortable with pattern repeats after increasing or decreasing. As a result of this class, reading a pattern will not seem like a foreign language. We will have examples of confusing or misleading directions in class, but feel free to bring in any examples of your own for us to decipher. 4 CLASSES WITH LESLYE! A message from Leslye As a Vogue Knitting Live and Knitter s Magazine Stitches teacher, I fly or drive to various venues in a variety of states. I have met wonderful hungry-for-knowledge knitting students from all over the country who attend my classes. Each class is only three hours, and I pour as much information onto their heads as I can within that limited time. Since these great knitting events are not close to Maryland, I would like to offer some of these classes here at Woolstock Knit & Sew. Instead of three hours, let s relax and do a four hour class so we can have as much time as needed to learn more stuff. We will do two hours of class, take a break to get lunch, and resume class after lunch. Homework is required for some classes. OH...SO YOU RE NOT PERFECT? Woolstock Store Hours Monday 10-5 Tuesday 10-5 Wednesday 10-5 Thursday 10-6 Friday 10-5 Saturday 10-5 Sunday Closed SAT., JULY 11 The Mistakes and Mishaps class so many have requested. Come on...we all make them. Everyone reacts differently when something goes wrong in knitting. Some knitters make mistakes and have to overt their eyes at the gory sight of stitches off the needle. Some of knitters scream and stomp their feet at the thought of a mistake and (cough) starting over. Some knitters unnecessarily start over lacking important knowledge to avoid that frequently unnecessary action. Some of us see a mistake, just keep on going in denial, claiming the mistake really doesn t bother us. No really, it s fine...it s fine...no one can see it. (Probably no one can see it...with the exception of the most important person...you). So when things go wrong, you need to be able to fix or prevent a variety of problems. You need to be able to be that capable emergency room knitter and be a knitter who can save...no, solve my list of mistakes and goof-ups. Taking this class won t make you perfect, but it will give you the info to make your sweaters perfect. $69 Each attendee will receive a free tool for fixing mistakes! Visit us online at 4

5 CLASSES WITH LESLYE! FEEL GOOD ABOUT FINISHING YOUR SWEATERS SAT., JUNE 20 If you love knitting, but always would rather knit it in the round to avoid seams, you should take this class. When you know where to insert that needle, you will look forward to finishing your projects yourself. Learn what to do before your start the project and right after that last stitch is bound off (learn how to get your pieces to look neat and be the expected measurement). Learn how to seam your shoulders (so it looks like it only was one piece). Know where and how to pick up stitches at the neck edges (without their directions). Sew your side seams (so the seams are hard to find). Learn how to sew in your sleeves into the armholes (without lumps and bumps and doing them again and again and still not being totally happy). See how to install a zipper (so it doesn t look lumpy and come apart after a couple zips) Learn what to do with all those ends (you could be the next Grand Champion at the Maryland State Fair). Learn how to never fear cardigans again because of wavy bands and not knowing how to do buttonholes (we will practice my favorite one on your amazingly straight band). $69 Each attendee will receive a free set of Fiber Fantasy Blockers! If you thought you were a rookie knitter, you won t be after this class. I might even offer to hire you. We could use an extra knowledgeable employee. CROCHET FOR KNITTERS SAT., JULY 25 You can knit but you don t crochet? Learn just enough to get by. As a knitter, being able to crochet is a very important skill, and frequently a preferred choice when finishing. Even though you have no trouble holding two knitting needles, don t let the easy operation of holding that single hook scare you. In this class, learn just enough crochet to enhance, fix, or finish your knit project. Learn all about the structure of the crochet hook and what you should know to use one. Learn the tricks of how to single crochet on the edge of your knitting in garter and Stockinette stitch so the edge is never left unfinished, lays flat, and looks even. Even without instructions from your pattern, you ll be able to determine how to start, know how to space, go around corners, and decide to finish a knit edge of your garment, as it might offer a delicate decorative, quicker, functional, or dressier choice when ribbing is wrong. Expand that single crochet skill to other crochet stitches with single or multiple yarns to add your own flair to your throw, shawl, or sweater. Learn how to quickly use crochet to finish cardigans, button and buttonhole bands, space buttonholes, and practice a few very easy buttonholes. In addition to finishing, have that crochet hook on call when fixing common knitting mistakes and mishaps. You won t leave knowing how to crochet a sweater, although that would be nice diversion, but this minimal crochet stuff combined with knitting should be added to your list of talents. $69 (materials not included) All class attendees will receive a free gift! Homework: Three samples of knitting. Use light colored, Aran-weight yarn and US 9/5.5mm needles. Sample 1: Cast on 18 stitches and work garter stitch for about 12"/30cm. Bind off. Sample 2: Cast on 18 stitches and work Stockinette stitch for about 12"/30cm. Bind off. Expect that your sample will curl; you can gently steam it to eliminate some curling. Sample 3: Cast on 18 stitches and work Stockinette stitch for about 4"/10cm. Slide stitches to a holder. Supplies to bring: Bring the samples of homework, scissors, size G and H crochet hook. Bring the yarn the samples were made from and an additional color. 5
