You can bring a pattern you always wanted to try, or we can help you find the perfect pattern. In the first session you will be measured and we will discuss how to adapt an existing pattern to fit you perfectly, or (if you have previous sweater knitting experience) how to design a simple sweater for yourself. We will walk you through yarn selection & swatching. In the following three sessions you will come back and work through your sweater from cast on to finishing. You will work through organizing the components involved in constructing two different types of pullovers with a round neckline. The first is the Classic Body silhouette that is based on the bust measurements. It is worked straight to the armholes, then, the armholes and neckline are shaped. The second is the Double Tapered Body silhouette. This sweater type is shaped along the natural curves of the body to the armholes, then, the armholes and neckline are shaped. Both pullover types will be planned with set in sleeves. You will be walked through accurately measuring a swatch, taking body measurements, writing a pattern, and calculating yarn amounts. In this workshop, you will learn all of the basic finishing techniques while working on your swatches. We will go through the art of weaving in ends, Slip Stitch Seam, Single Crochet Seam, Overcast Seam, Mattress Stitch Seam and Backstitch Seam. Tunisian crochet, also referred to as "Afghan Crochet," is a unique technique using a long hook & two passes. 4 Intro to Cables Cables look impressive and are easier than you think. This course covers how to use a cable needle, how to cable without a cable needle, reading a cable pattern or chart, how to make cables that twist to the left or twist to the right, terms and abbreviations. You will learn how to create several different cable patterns and design your perfect cable scarf! Learn how to knit in the round using double pointed needles, turn a basic heel, and close up the toe of your sock using Kitchener stitch. This class will enable you to make basic socks, but you will also learn a variety of skills that you can carry over into your other knitting projects. This workshop will cover the pattern reading, shaping, I cord and finishing techniques needed to create all kinds of amigurumi critters. We ll be making the Miss Mousie pattern, which will get you hooked on creating these fun toys! Thursday Oct 21 6:00 9:00 pm Intermediate Fair Isle Make a Tam (NEW) Tuition: $65 / 2 week session (2 2 hr classes) & homework Prerequisite: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on and cast off, simple increases & decreases. Have some experience with knitting in the round and with stranded color knitting. Homework: You will be required to cast on prior to class. Fair Isle, sometimes called stranded knitting is a wonderful technique used to create patterns with multiple colors. In this workshop you will work on the beautiful Fair Isle Tam. You will learn all the techniques to get you started creating this wonderful hat. In this class, you will learn when to steam block, when to wet block, when to iron and when not to. You will learn about blocking wires, boards, and how to make your finished garment perfect! 5 Crochet Lace and Filet Crochet Tuition: $65/ 2 week session (2 2 hour classes) sheet at register before class. Prerequisite: Must know chain, single, half double, double & treble crochet. This workshop explores the exciting world of lace and Filet Crochet. You will learn how to create lace which is a more open version of fancy crochet stitches, and Filet Crochet, which relies on simple mesh, in which stitches can be filled in or left open to create a pattern. Intro to Knitting in the Round Tuition: $50/ 2 ½ hour session Materials Must be purchased at Lion Brand Yarn Studio. 10% off all class supplies. Ask for materials In this class you will learn casting on & joining in the round on circular needles, double pointed needles & magic loop. In the round secrets revealed such as: how to convert a flat pattern to in the round and how to gauge swatch for an in the round project. In the last ½ hour of the class you will receive a hat pattern, pick out your favorite in the round knitting method, and get started! In this workshop you will learn the basic Amigurumi skills: single crochet, basic increasing and decreasing, simple pattern reading, and basic seaming, which will allow you to make almost any Amigurumi. We will be making the Love Birds. They make wonderful short projects and gifts. Thursday Nov 18 6:00 9:00 pm Modular Knitting (NEW) Homework: You will be required to work in advance of class. Prerequisite: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, cast off Modular Knitting is a way of giving a "patchwork" effect to your knitting without picking up stitches or seaming. The most intriguing feature of modular knitting is perhaps the varying directions in which the stitches move and interweave with each other. In the Modular Scarf pattern, you will work a series of triangles that are built atop one another for a fun triangular look!
