You will be specifically learning the techniques used to make the Gobelen Bag (please purchase book for pattern prior to class, or from Faina during class). The skills learned in this class will be specifically for the Gobelen Bag, but with those skills, you will be able to work with any pattern in the book. Materials: 3 skeins of different solid-color yarns in DK or worsted weight, size US 4 or 5 for DK yarn, US 6, 7 or 8 for worsted weight yarn, crochet hook, stitch markers, row counter, scissors, pencil and paper for writing notes Requirements: K101 and K102, or basics of knitting, with some increase and decrease techniques Skills Learned: overview of slip stitches, how to make woven stitches, working with colors, working the round with slip stitches, taming the jog, crochet slip stitch, choosing yarn and colors, reading charts for slip stitch, discussing bag handles and lining Homework: Please see handout for instructions on making homework swatches Textured Crochet with Kira Dulaney 2 Sessions, 2 hours each - $60 (supplies are not included & must be purchased separately) Saturday, February 27 th & March 5 th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Maximum number of students in class: 15 Level: Intermediate Bring dimension & depth to your crochet. We ll work on different textured stitch patterns, incorporating crossed stitches, bobbles, post stitches, and more. 2 Intro to Argyle with Kira Dulaney 1 Session, 2 hours - $30 (supplies are not included & must be purchased separately) Saturday, February 27 th from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Maximum number of students in class: 15 Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Get ready to expand your knitting parameters with this class all about intarsia, also known as picture knitting. We ll start an argyle coffee cup cozy and go over the basics of intarsia including managing multiple balls of yarn and how to best weave in ends. Materials: small amounts (20-50 yards) of worsted or aran weight yarn in 3 or more colors (all yarn should be roughly the same size), knitting needles that are an appropriate size for your yarn, yarn bobbins Requirements: K101 and K102, or basics of knitting, with some increase and decrease techniques Gauging and Swatching with Kira Dulaney (this class is for both knitters and crocheters) 1 Session, 2 hours - $30 (supplies are not included & must be purchased separately) Saturday, March 5 th from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Maximum number of students in class: 15 Level: any level Checking your gauge is very important if you want projects to fit, but a lot of people aren't sure if they're doing it right. In this class we'll discuss the best way to make a swatch, and practice measuring gauge on a variety of stitch patterns. We'll also talk about why gauge is so important, and the rare times when you can get away with being not quite on gauge. Note: this class is open to both knitters and crocheters. Materials: paper & pencil, calculator, ruler, optional: gauge swatches from current or past projects Requirements: C101 for crocheters or K101 for knitters, or the basics of either either knitting or crochet (must know how to knit or crochet comfortably without help) Crochet Owl Blanket ***NEW CLASS*** 3 Sessions - $65 (supplies are not included & must be purchased separately) * Wednesdays, January 6 th, 13 th & 27 th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (skips January 20th) Instructor: Christina Berdoulay Level: Intermediate This circular blanket is crocheted in the round then embellished with appliqué shapes to create a little owl scene. It can be used as a baby blanket or as a lap blanket. It is easily customizable; it can even be used as a small floor cover! You will be learning how to crochet in the round, working basic post stitches and adding appliqué. 3 Knit Capuchon (Hooded Cape) ***NEW CLASS*** 4 Sessions - $85 (supplies are not included & must be purchased separately) *Wednesdays, February 3 rd, 10 th, 17 th & 24 th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Instructor: Christina Berdoulay Level: Intermediate Come knit a fun child's cape, sized from 12 months to 8 years. You can customize details for either a boy or girl- a brown version would make a Jedi cloak or use red to make your own red riding hood! You will be learning provisional cast-on, a nearly invisible increase, raspberry stitch, Kitchener grafting, and making an I-cord. This blanket consists of intricate-looking hexagons that are seamed together to form a lovely, heirloom-quality blanket. You will be learning how to work Fair Isle colorwork using two colors (the pattern allows for more than one color), whether holding both colors in each hand, or learning to twist the yarns together so that they can be carried behind your work. It is shaped so you can insert your feet in the fin and then it opens up around the legs to look like a mermaid tail. You will be learning how to crochet in the front and back loops of stitches, 3D shaping crochet, and shell stitch Materials: size N (9 mm) crochet hook, stitch markers, tapestry needle; worsted weight yarn requirements are as follows: 2000 yards for adult, 1700 yards for child, 1100 yards for toddlers (you will be holding the yarn double throughout), variations include a different colored tail ( yards) and using two different colors held together for the body. 4 All-In-One Crochet Baby Cardigan ***NEW CLASS*** 3 Sessions - $65 (supplies are not included & must be purchased separately) * Sundays, March 13 th, 20 th & April 3 rd from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm (skips Easter Sunday) Instructor: Mae Dickson Level: Intermediate Have you seen those cardigans that are made in one piece, then folded like origami? In this class, you will learn how to crochet a baby cardigan like this. We will work this pattern with line instructions and from a chart, and fold up the finished product for seaming. It s fun to watch the garment come together! Hats make quick projects & are a good next step after scarves & other simple projects. It s also a great way to learn how to knit in the round using circulars & double-pointed needles. Choose a hat from a few different patterns & learn the basics of hat construction in the first session. Complete the hat in the next session with plenty of time in between to knit the body of the hat. Materials: For chunky weight hat, size circular needles (may need size 9, 16 needles if doing a rib brim) & about 100 to 150 yds of chunky weight yarn; for worsted weight hat, size 6 & 8 16 circular needles (for brim & main part of hat) & about 150 to 180 yds of worsted weight yarn Requirements: K101 basics (cast on, knit, purl, bind off Entrelac 2 Sessions - $50 (supplies not included & must be purchased separately) * Sundays, February 7 th & 14 th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Instructor: Mae Dickson Level: Advanced This two-part workshop is an introduction to the technique called Entrelac, which looks like strips of basket-woven knitting. We will be working on a small Entrelac square, using one or more colors. This technique is the basis for the stunning Lady Eleanor stole in the popular book Scarf Style (see the sample in the shop). Materials: Approximately 100 yards of yarn total (if doing more than two or more colors, may use various amounts of scrap yarn), basic wool or any smooth worsted yarn in DK to worsted weight is best; straight or circular needles appropriate for yarn weight, crochet hook (optional for picking up stitches) & stitch markers (optional for keeping count) Requirements: Techniques from K101 & K102 (cast on, knit, purl, bind off, decreases K2tog & Ssk & increases M1 & Kf&b)

In this class, we will learn how to work the mattress stitch & seam for pieces in garter stitch, stockinette stitch & single rib. We will also try our hand at working shoulder seams in in stockinette, using stitching & 3-needle bind off. Materials: Size US 7 or 8 needles, about 200 yards of light, smooth worsted weight yarn to make samples, similar yarn in contrasting color for seaming, tapestry needle, scissors Requirements: K101 or be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, binding off, some increase & decrease knowledge is helpful Homework: Please complete prior to class the 8 swatches that we use for seaming; a handout will be given to you when you sign up for the class with instructions on how to do these swatches Introduction to Cables 2 Sessions - $50 (supplies not included and must be purchased separately) * Sundays, January 10 th & 17 th from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Instructor: Mae Dickson Level: Advanced beginner to intermediate Cables look quite intimidating but are really not difficult once you learn the basic techniques. You'll learn the ins and outs of this great technique (including how to read charts) and be ready to take on lots of great projects. Materials: Smooth worsted or DK weight yarn with needles of the appropriate size. Various cable needles will be shown in class, and you can try those before you decide which style you prefer to buy (you may also use a double pointed needle instead of cable needle; bring one that is the same size as your knitting needles) Requirements: K101 basics (cast on, knit, purl, bind off) Tunisian Crochet Basics Workshop 1 Sessions, 3 hours - $45 (supplies not included & must be purchased separately) * Sunday, March 6 th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Instructor: Mae Dickson Level: Advanced beginner Tunisian crochet, afghan crochet, shepherd s knitting...whichever name you use, you will have fun learning this new technique. In this class, we will be learning a few basic stitches: Tunisian Simple Stitch, Tunisian Knit Stitch and Tunisian Purl Stitch, and how to work the edges for a finished look. This is a good refresher course for those who have tried Tunisian crochet before, or for those who wish to understand the basics in order to move on to more advance techniques. First come, first served. * Mondays, 10 am 12 pm * Saturdays, 10 am -12 pm Knit & Crochet ER help is also available during off hours based on staff availability You are welcome to come into Nine Rubies for basic help with your knitting & crochet projects at any time, such a dropped stitch, pattern reading with your knitting & crochet projects or anything that will take no more than a few minutes. For more dedicated help on larger topics, such as finding an unfinished project in the closet & wondering where you were, figuring out the best finishing techniques, or you urgently need help & you need dedicated time at Nine Rubies, we have the Knit & Crochet ER. A staff member will be in the classroom to help a maximum of four people at one time. Come get those projects moving again! Private Lessons for Crochet & Knitting $45 an hour per person. Minimum of 2 hours needed for basic instruction lessons Move at your own pace with an available instructor. Learn crochet or knitting in a private class at your convenience. Classes will be held at the store only. Please contact store for instructor availability. You may also book a private session for pattern and project consultations. These can be booked in 1/2 hour increments as needed. Customized Project Classes Do you & your friends have a project that you would like to work on together in a class setting with one of the Nine Rubies instructors? We can customize classes for groups of 3 to 6 people. Prices will vary depending upon the number of sessions needed for the class. Sessions are generally 2-3 hours long each, & the number of sessions will depend upon the project & the needs of your group. Contact us to ask about forming a customized class. We offer classes in knitting, crochet & Tunisian crochet. All classes are subject to instructor availability. Pricing guidelines (may differ depending upon difficulty of subject matter): 1 session, 2 hours - $25 per person, 3 or more persons 1 session, 3 hours - $45 per person, 3 or more persons 2 sessions, 2 hours each - $50 per person, 3 or more persons 3 sessions, 2 hours each - $65 per person, 3 or more persons 4 sessions, 2 hours each - $85 per person, 3 or more persons Class Policies 1. Classes must be paid in full at time of registration in order to hold your spot. 2. All supplies should be purchased before the class unless specifically stated otherwise. 3. Upon signing up for a class, any changes in attendance must be made a week prior to the start of the class. If you need to cancel a class, we will issue you a store credit for the amount paid. Unfortunately, cancellations made with fewer than 24 hours notice result in a forfeiture of the class fee. 4. If you must miss a session of a class, please call in advance to let us know. You may be able to take that session the next time the class is offered if there is space available, or you can pay $15 for the first hour of a make-up session. Subsequent time for instruction is billed at the standard rate for a private lessons, at $45/ hour. Make-up sessions are offered based on the availability of a suitable instructor. 5. Classes have minimum enrollments of 2 students; if these are not met, we reserve the right to cancel classes with 24 hours notice. Refunds for classes we cancel will be given in the method of payment.
