School Of Crochet Class Name: Simple Spring Shawl Date and Time: Thursday, April 9, 1-3pm - $25 Instructor: Kerri Habben Description: Kerri s original pattern is not just a simple shawl for spring, but an enjoyable and relaxing shawl to crochet anytime. This basic pattern is versatile so different weights of yarn and fibers will work, and it works up quickly and appears more complicated than it actually is. Sample is made with 1 skein of Malabrigo sock (440 yds) using a G Hook. Homework and Supplies: Pattern will be provided in class. The sample is well blocked; if you d like a larger sock weight shawl, purchase more yarn or select a heavier weight (DK weight: 700 yds H Hook; Worsted: 900 yds, I Hook). Class Name: Freeform Leaf Cowl Skill Level: Basic Crochet and Knit skills needed (must know how to knit, purl, single crochet, and double crochet) Date and Time: Thursday, April 9, 16, & 30, 1-3pm - $60 Instructor: Lisa Doherty Description: We will learn freeform techniques to make a beautiful cowl. In the first class, Lisa will guide you in adding crochet embellishments to your leaves. The second class will cover other motifs that are used in the cowl, then in the third class you will assemble everything. We suggest that you keep your color range limited, but please experiment with a variety of shades and textures. Homework and Supplies: Purchase a sport or fingering weight yarn from Yarn Tree Studio for the leaves (Lisa used sport-weight Berroco Boboli Lace), and make sure you have a variety of other yarns to use in your cowl. Select some yarns from your stash, then choose a few from Yarn Tree to tie them all together. You will use US 6 or US 4 knitting needles depending on which yarn you choose, and please bring a range of crochet hooks sizes F to I (don t worry if you don t have all sizes bring what you have). You will also need scissors and a yarn needle. Please make at least two leaves before the first class. Yarn Tree Studio will provide you with instructions on how to make them. Class Name: Crochet Workshop Skill Level: All Levels Date and Time: Wednesday, April 15, 6-8pm - $15 Instructor: Kate Steinke Description: Have a problem with your current crochet project or a question about a pattern you would like to try? Want to get started on something new? Our resident crocheter, Kate, will guide you through your current project or help you get started on a new one. Homework and Supplies: Please bring your current project, or come a bit early and we can get you set up. Students will receive 10% off materials purchased for a new project.
Class Name: Hooker Club Skill Level: All Levels Date and Time: Friday, April 17, 6-8pm - FREE Instructor: Kate Steinke Description: What could be more relaxing than an evening crocheting with friends? Join us for a night to crochet, chat, share, and to just be inspired. We can t wait to see you! Homework and Supplies: Please bring your current project or come a bit early to get set up with a new project. Students receive 10% off materials purchased for a new project. School of Knitting Class Name: Cabled Scarf Date and Time: Tuesday, April 7, 6-8pm - $25 Description: Want to add some dimension to your knitting? Cables are so much fun and they re easier than they look. We will cover cable basics, how to cable with (and without!) a needle, and how to correct mistakes. Homework and Supplies: The pattern will be distributed in class. The shop sample is knit from Maya, 85% pima cotton 15% baby alpaca, perfect for transitional weather. You will need 3 skeins of Maya (or ~400 yds worsted weight yarn) and US 8 (straight or 24 circular), a fishhook cable needle, and a row counter. Class Name: Double Sided Rib Cowl Skill Level: Intermediate Date and Time: Wednesday, April 8, 6-8pm - $25 Instructor: Martha Myers Description: This unique project introduces a novel technique/stitch pattern that creates a beautifully squishy double-sided fabric. While the effect looks similar to two-color brioche rib, this technique does not involve any actual brioched stitches. The technique uses knits and purls to create the effect. Since technique is the focus of the class, the weight of the yarn is up to you. A finer weight yarn will require more stitches, while a heavier weight yarn will work up faster but will create a much thicker fabric. Homework and Supplies: Two skeins of similar weight yarn (class sample used 1 skein worsted weight Noro Silk Garden, 1 skein DK-weight Silky Wool), one should be variegated or multi-colored and the other color in a complementary color. Stitch markers and the appropriate size circular needles for the heaviest-weight yarn.
Class Name: Freeform Leaf Cowl Skill Level: Basic Crochet and Knit skills needed (must know how to knit, purl, single crochet, and double crochet) Date and Time: Thursday, April 9, 16, & pm - $60 Instructor: Lisa Doherty Description: We will learn freeform techniques to make a beautiful cowl. Class Name: Knitting Slouchy Hat Date and Time: Thursday, April 9 & 16, 6-8pm - $50 Description: If you have already taken Knitting 101 or if you're coming back to knitting after some time away, then this is the class for you. Pattern will be distributed in class. Class Name: Marly Tee Shirt by Julie Hoover Date and Time: Sunday, April 12, 26, & May 3, 3-5pm - $60 Instructor: Julia Stovall Description: Would you like a comfy, soft, easy-to-knit tee shirt for the warmer season? The Marly by Julie Hoover fits the bill. This boxy short sleeve pullover is worked in just two pieces (back and front) from the bottom up creating sleeves with cast on stitches. The length of the garment and the sleeves are adjustable. Great for layering over a tank top or cami. 5 Juniper Moon Farms Zooey, 60% cotton, 40% linen. You may choose to use stitch markers, coiless safety pins, or a row counter. Look through the pattern to see if you may find these useful. Class Name: Summer Cardi - Drifting /Intermediate Date and Time: Monday, April 13, 20 and May 4, 6-8pm - $60 Instructor: Martha Myers Description: Cecily Glowik MacDonald is one of our favorite knitwear designers for a reason! You ll be reaching for this lightweight, shortsleeve cardigan everywhere you go. This is knit top down, making it easy to alter both the body length and the length of the sleeves. It is also written with nine sizes for a great fit. Homework and Supplies: 32 circular needles in sizes US 5 & 6 (or size to obtain gauge). Enough yarn for selected size, set of double point needles in smaller size needle, stitch markers, and stitch holders. The sample is made with Cozette (a lovely silk/cotton/nylon blend) and has added stripes. Please purchase the pattern before class, and complete and block a gauge swatch. Class Name: Fixing Mistakes Date and Time: Tuesday, April 14, 6-8pm - $15 Description: We all make mistakes, but more advanced knitters know how to fix them! In this class we will learn how to fix common mistakes, how to fudge things to make it work and when it is time to just let it be. It is knit in one piece from the top down, with a circular yoke and short rows to shape the front sections. The collar stitches are picked up and knit at the end. Instructions for lengthening the cardigan are given in the pattern. You will absolutely love this one! Homework and Supplies: Pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry. 40 US 4 & 3 circular needles, stitch markers, and tapestry needle. Purchase enough yarn for your selected size. Yarn options include Firefly, Bella Lino, Zooey, Cozette and others. Please knit a swatch in both stockinette on the larger needle and in pattern on the smaller needle.
Class Name: Hitofude Skill Level: Intermediate Date and Time: Saturday, April 11, May 2, & 16 10:30-12:30 - $60 Instructor: Leta Griffiths Description: Hitofude means brushstroke in Japanese. It is an appropriate name for this garment that can be made with one single unbroken strand of yarn. This stunning cardigan has graced the front page of Ravelry for many months as one of the most popular garments. Fun to make and flattering on nearly everyone, its popularity is no mystery, and now it is your turn to get in on the fun. Homework and Supplies: The Hitofude pattern can be purchased on Ravelry or in the shop. Please also purchase enough fingering weight yarn for your size. Class Name: Stacked Square Needle Felted Scarf Date and Time: Sunday, April 19, 3-5pm - $25 Instructor: Martha Myers Description: Needle felting is a great way to embellish your handknit items. The barbed needle felts the fibers together as the needle is repeatedly stabbed into the fibers. In this class you will be learn to create your own designs and use cookie cutters to embellish your work. After getting comfortable with the needle felting process, we will start a form on your mat, giving the edges structure and then transfer the item to a sample piece. Homework and Supplies: Bring in at least 2 swatches, 4 x4 squares, to practice on. Please bring foam or a felting mat to work on as well as felting needles. Class Name: Hitchhiker Date and Time: Thursday, April 23, 6-8pm - $25 Description: This easy-to-follow and fun garter stitch scarf/shawlette is a winner. It s simple, it s squishy, it s stretchy and reversible, and it makes any variegated, hand-dyed sock yarn really shine. This clever, easy-to-remember pattern makes it the perfect take-along project. Homework and Supplies: Hitchhiker pattern by Martina Behm please purchase in shop or on Ravelry prior to class. One skein fingering weight yarn (handpainted or variegated yarns look particularly stunning), one stitch marker, and a US 3 needle, 24 or 32. Class Name: Knitting Hats without a Pattern Date and Time: Saturday, April 25, 3: $15 Description: Hats are fun to make, and they make great gifts. What many people do not know is that they are easy to make without a pattern. Once you learn a few simple rules you will be well on your way to making hats of all sizes in any yarn.
Homework and Supplies: 200 yards of yarn, a 16 circular needle, double pointed needles, a crochet hook, and stitch markers. Please bring a completed gauge swatch to class. Class Name: Mosaic Colorwork - Earth Weave Cowl (must know how to knit in the round) Date and Time: Wednesday, April 29, $25 Instructor: Lynn Goldenberg Description: Don t be scared of slipped-stitch (or mosaic ) colorwork! This is an easy stitch pattern from Barbara Walker s Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns made into a stunning cowl. It s a fast, fun knit and you will love watching the Noro colors change throughout the pattern. Homework and Supplies: Earth Weave Cowl is a free download on Ravelry. Class Name: Geology Shawl Knit-Along Skill Level: Intermediate/Advanced Limited to 6 participants Date and Time: Tuesday, April 7, May 5, & June 2, 1-3pm FREE with yarn purchase Instructor: Jannett Ammons Description: The Geology shawl is a beautiful semicircular/crescent shaped shawl with layers of varying textured knitting patterns. The silk content of the yarn will provide a lovely drape and airyness to the end product. This shawl will keep your shoulders protected during the cool spring/early summer days, perfect to wear with a sundress or as an extra little 'something' on a night out on the town. This will be the perfect addition to your shawl collection and Jannett looks forward to assisting you with any questions regarding the pattern. Homework and Supplies: Please purchase enough yarn to complete the shawl. You will also need stitch markers and needles to get gauge. The KAL for this lovely textured shawl will be great fun for knitters looking to expand their knowledge base and/or looking for a social knitting experience. This project requires an INTERMEDIATE level knowledge base to participate. Skills required include but are not limited to: knit, purl, increases, varying stitch pattern, ability to pick up "inherent" aspects of pattern, ability to maintain multiple stitch counts, ability to read and follow varying stitch pattern changes as well as garter cast on tab and stretchy bind off techniques. Pattern is charted as well as written out however, if you choose to follow the written directions there are times when selvedge edges are included and others when they are not. The knitter's knowledge and prior experience with knitting shawls and following patterns is necessary in discerning these differences in the written pattern.
