Holy Squisholy Shawl Sunday, June 17, 9 a.m. 12 p.m. Fee: $60 Grace will teach you how to make her unique holy technique used in her shawl. You will be able to use the buttonhole technique that Grace invented when making cardigans too! Cast On/Cast Off Monday, June 18, 1-4 p.m. Fee: $60 Go beyond what you know and learn 6 cast on and bind off techniques to have in your arsenal of techniques for any project you start or finish. In this class the cast on techniques we will cover are: Long tail cast on, knit cast on, cable cast on, tubular cast on, crochet cast on, and the invisible cast on. We will also cove the following bind off techniques: the traditional bind off, elastic (or sewn) bind off, yarn over bind off, i-cord bind off, three needle bind off, and the k2tog bind off. 2 Knitting Classes Beginning Knitting During the first 2 classes, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease & cast off. On the 3rd class session, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read knitting instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course. Fee: $78/4 week class.. Thurs. 3 Technique Classes Choosing the Right Yarn & Blocking with Darlene Joyce Learn how to choose the right yarn for any project. Students will learn how to read yarn labels, how different fibers behave, how to substitute yarns, how to determine yardage needed and how to make a measureable gauge swatch. Students will also learn the basics of blocking, including wet blocking, mist blocking and steam blocking and when to use each technique. Sat. May 12 Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce Are you tired of running into the shop every time the stitches fall off the needle? Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting. You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row. The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches, and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle. Please pick up homework sheet. Sat. May 19 Project Classes Crooked Ewe Cowl with June Sorensen (Designed by Paula Emons-Fuessle) Crooked Ewe is knitted in the round from the bottom up. Instructions are charted and written in a percentage checklist style which makes it easy to track your progress. You will need approximately 360 to 400 yds (329 to 366 m) of a sport weight yarn. Less yarn will yield a more shallow cowl, still perfectly fine. More yarn will yield a deeper cowl. The pattern is easily adaptable if you want to make it longer--simply add more stitch pattern repeats. The lace/texture pattern is impressive to look at and simple to work. It is easily memorized so you can focus on the beautiful color. Size is 14 deep and 34 circumference. Sat. May 5 Fee:$32 Freeze Frame by Georg Luxton (Designed by Kelly Monster) This is an asymmetrical shawl worked from edge to edge. It begins with a small number of stitches. Increases and decreases are used to create the shape of the shawl as it expands in width. Techniques include: mosaic knitting, ktbl, ptbl, make one increase. 10 a.m p.m. So most of you know that Darlene is all about fit. And, several have voiced the idea that they would like a basic sweater pattern with a little more interest. Well, now you can have a pattern custom written for your measurements and your gauge. Darlene will walk you through the process. Wed. May 9 & 23 Fee: $55 Socks from the Toe Up (Turkish Toe) with Courtney Buckalew Tuesday, June 19, July 10, 24 & August p.m. Fee: $88 With the yarn of your choice & some basic foot measurements, Courtney will guide you through the basic calculations & techniques for knitting a sock. The Turkish Toe does not use short rows like the German method and many knitters find it easier to execute. Students can opt to use double points or two circular needles. 4 Rose City Rollers with Emily Hrobsk y Designed by Mara Catherine Bryner. Learn how to use double points and two circular needles to knit a shortie sock. Techniques include turning the heal and shaping the toe. Sun. May 20 & 27 Fee: $ p.m. Hester s Cowl (Two Color Brioche) with June Sorensen (Designed by Versaci Knits) Have you tried brioche knitting and want to take it to the next level? Here is a project that uses basic brioche and two color brioche. Chose your favorite three colors of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino and you re ready to go! Thurs. May 24 Shine On Cowl/Headband/Hat (Mosaic Knitting) with K ate Joyce Designed by Ambah O Brien Pick two colors of your favorite fingering weight yarn and lose yourself in a deceptively simple knit. Shine On Cowl combines a clean lace stitch with a complexlooking, but easy to work, diamond mosaic pattern. The graphic diamond motif is created with slipped stitches, and only one color is ever worked at one time no stranding! Homework: Knit the ribbing before class. Wed. June 6 to p.m. Easy Summer Projects with Kate Joyce Saturdays, 2-4 p.m. Wicker Circle Cowl, June 23 Learn how to knit very simple lace with knit two togethers and yarn overs. Choose any yarn and a 24 circular needle that is 2 sizes larger than what the ball band recommends. She knit a bunch of these for her bridesmaids! Shoulder Cozy, June 30 Holding a fuzzy yarn with a smoother yarn, you will learn how to do an e cast on and knit garter stitch in the round. You will need to have a 24 circular needle in a size US 13. If you need help choosing your yarn, come a little early for class! $32/class or $50/both classes. Pre-registration is required. Weaving Classes Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving: Getting to Know Your Loom with Georg Luxton Learn the parts of the loom and weaving terminology. Students will assemble their loom, warp it and do a balanced weave using worsted weight yarn purchased from MYS. You can also have the MYS staff put your loom together for you for a $25 fee. This basic class is a spring board for more advanced weaving technique classes to come. If bringing own loom, make sure it is a rigid heddle and is no bigger than 20. Check with Georg if uncertain. Sat. May 5, 19 & June 2 ($44 with purchase of Sample It! Loom) Rigid Heddle Weaving: Color Play with Georg Luxton Learn plaids and stripe color patterns with your rigid heddle loom. Knowledge of plain weave (tabby weave) necessary. Students must know how to warp a loom. Wed. 16, 30 & June 13 Intro to Frame Weaving with Georg L uxton Using a frame loom, students will learn some basics of weaving, including how to warp the frame, how to create some simple stitches and how to let the design process flow while making a simple wall hanging. No experience needed. 14 x 10 Frame is $45. Wed. June 6 Rent-a-Loom Rent a Sample It loom for class Fee: $25* Duration: Length of Class Loom must stay in the store. Students can come to store during open hours to weave on project. *can put toward purchase of a loom

5 Crochet Classes Beginning Crochet This class is for beginners. You ll get started with chain, single, and double crochet stitches. Chose a skein of Plymouth Encore and a H hook and you will be on your way! Fee: $78/4 week class. Tues. May 1 to 22 with Darlene Joyce 10-11:30 a.m. Wed. May 9 to 30 with Pattie Aaron 6:30-8 p.m. Wed. June 20 to July 18 with Pattie Aaron 6:30-8 p.m. (No Class July 4) Crochet Socks with Darlene Joyce Learn how to crochet socks from the toe up using a basic single crochet stitch and a size G crochet hook and sport weight yarn. Students will learn how to fit the socks. No book required. Darlene will provide the pattern. Wed. May 2 to 16 Mini Skein Madness Ripple Cowl with Darlene Joyce Designed by Dana Freed. This cowl is actually quite easy. It makes good use of the mini skein color packs. You can pick your favorite colorway and learn a simple ripple stitch. The cowl is crocheted in the round and colors are changed whenever the yarn runs out. Darlene s sample is make in Wonderland s Mad Hatter 6 skein pack Tea Party 102. Wed. June 20 C2C (Corner to Corner) Crochet with Pattie Aaron Learn basic corner to corner crocheting while working on a cowl. Pattie will show you the basics and you can determine how wide and long you want your cowl. You can use any sport to worsted weight yarn your choice from our large selection and the hook that is appropriate for the yarn. Sat. May a.m p.m. Wed. June p.m Double Crochet Hat with Darlene Joyce Learn how to make a basic double crochet hat in any size (newborn to an adult man). Students must know how to double crochet. Purchase 100 yards of worsted weight yarn and bring a size J hook. Wed. May 30 Sat. Come in as soon as possible to pick out your supplies in case we need to order something. Students receive a 10% discount on all class materials! Please come to class with any gadgets you might need! Pre-Registration: Pr e-registration is required for all classes. You may register by phone via Visa/Mastercard or you can send in the class registration form above. Of course, you can always register in person! Minimum: A minimum of students is r equir ed in or der for a class to run. You will be notified one week in advance if the minimum is not met and your deposit will be refunded. Cancellation: Stor e cr edit can be issued for your deposit if we are notified one week before the start of class. After this point, deposits are non-refundable. Out of courtesy to our instructors, no make-up classes are given. All Classes: 100% payment is due at the time of registration.
