3 /blog Stripe Pattern #1: * 4 rows A, 2 rows C; repeat from * (6 rows) Back: With smaller needles and B, CO 64 (70, 76) sts. Work in Garter st for 10 rows. Change to larger needles and continue in Garter st for 8 (14, 14) more rows. On RS, join A and continue in St st until piece measures 15 (16, 17) from beg. On WS, bind off 19 (21, 24) sts for shoulder, work across 26 (28, 28) sts and place on holder. BO remaining 19 (21, 24) sts for shoulder. Front: With smaller needles and B, CO 64 ( 70, 76) sts. Work in Garter st for 10 rows. Change to larger needles, continue in Garter st for 0 (6, 6) more rows. On RS, continue in Garter st and work 13 (16, 19) sts, join C and work across 38 sts Chart Pattern #1, end 13 (16, 19) Garter st B. When first 8 rows are complete, on RS join A and continue Chart Pattern #1 and remainder of sweater in St st. When 75 rows of Chart Pattern #1 is complete, continue in A until piece measures 12½ (13½, 14½) from beg. Neck Shaping: On RS, K27 (29, 32) sts, join second ball of yarn and BO center 10 (12, 12) sts, work to end. Work both sides at once, BO 3 sts from each neck edge once, 2 sts once, then decrease 1 st every other row 3x. Work even until piece measures 15 (16, 17)" from beg. Finishing: Sew left shoulder seam. Neckband: With RS facing, with smaller needles and A, pick up and K72 (74, 74) sts evenly around neck. Work in k1, P1 rib for 7 rows. BO in rib. Sew 2 nd shoulder and neckband seam. Mark 5 ¾ (6¼, 6½)" down from shoulder at each armhole edge. Sew top of sleeve at armhole edge between markers. Sew remaining side and sleeve seams. Giraffe Pocket: With larger needles and D, CO 38 sts. Work across 38 st Chart Pattern #2 in St st for 18 rows. On RS, change to smaller needles and work 3 rows in Garter st. BO in Garter st on WS. Place pocket over body and pin. With embroidery needle and long strand of D, attach with chain stitch around sides and bottom, leaving top free.

5 /blog With embroidery needle and strand of D, tack down several sts at center of pocket on Garter rib. Ear: With larger needles and D, CO 3 sts. Work in St st, and increase one st at each side every other row until 7 sts are reached. When 8 rows from beg, decrease one st at each side every other row until 3 sts remain. On RS, K3tog, and leave 5" tail, and weave to the bottom of ear. Tack down and trim. With embroidery needle and long strand of D, form chain st around ear. Fold ear lengthwise and attach as indicated on chart. Eye: With embroidery thread and strand of A, form large French knot, and attach as indicated on chart. Tail: Cut three 9" strands of D and fold in half. With crochet hook, pull strands through top corner on pocket, opposite head. Loop and form knot. Braid tail for 3, knot end and leave 1 fringe.
