1 Anthea Poncho Sonki Classic Elite Spring Knit -a-long Choose a design from any of CEY s spring books: 1701, 1702A, 1702B, 1703, 1704 Your design must use a minimum of $30 of CEY yarn purchased this year. It s fine (more than fine!) to make more than one project. Show us your completed project(s) before 7:00 pm on Friday, June 16. Your name will be entered in the prize drawing 1 time for every 100 yds of yarn used in your project. The CEY KAL prize drawing will be Friday, June 16, at 7:00 pm. Grand Prize will be a basket with $100 worth of good things for knitters. Other prizes will be gift certificates to downtown Valparaiso restaurants and various items from around Sheep s Clothing. 2 The Sámi are Scandinavia s only United Nations-recognized indigenous people. This class will focus on one town in northern Sweden Jokkmokk, and one family s interpretation of a common flower motif. Join us in exploring some of the staples of Swedish Sámi knitting in the creation of a miniature mitten and some of the problems inherent to them: two ways to knit a larger scale, stranded-flower motif, three ways to manipulate yarn in long floats, and duplicate stitches, as well as how to make the 4-strand rounded braid and a tassel. Through it all, we will take an in-depth look at the culture and festivals in Jokkmokk, and the natural beauty and environmental tragedies close by. knitting supply Jokkmokk Flowers A Swedish Sámi Handgarments Class GUEST TEACHER Laura Ricketts Friday, April 7 9am to noon & 1 pm to 4 pm Laura will be teaching this class later in April at Yarnover in Minneapolis. Sheep s Clothing customers have an opportunity to work with Laura in a small class setting close to home. The class is jam packed with special Fair Isle/color stranding techniques. You ll work a miniature mitten in class. We can work on the full-size mitten after our day with Laura during Happy Hour knitting on Friday early evenings. Skills needed: Basic knitting skills of knitting and purling, knitting in the round and stranded color knitting experience. Class fee of $65 will include yarn kit, pattern for the sample mitten and full size mitten pattern. Class piece will be worked in Finnulgarn by Rauma. There is a small amount of homework, so be sure to stop in for your yarn kit before day of class. APRIL

3 Building Blocks Crocheted Shawlette You will spend class 1 learning the basic stitch pattern for this piece and getting a good start on your shawlette. You'll begin with a few stitches at the center back of the neck and build outwards until your piece has reached your desired size. In class 2 you'll apply an edging to your shawl and add Romanian crocheted cords with yarn tassels. 4 All Day / Earth Day Mitten Celebrate Earth Day by learning the earthy and practical art of mitten making. Your class mitten will be done in a bulky yarn so that you can complete it during class. You ll work with our own shop mitten pattern written for all sizes and weights of yarn. Once you master this mitten making formula, you ll never be more than a couple hours away from a new pair of mittens and warm hands for anyone on your knit list. 10:30 am to 4:30 pm April 22 $50 plus supplies Teacher: Debbie Have fun finding the easter eggs. 5 Dare to Repair Challenge yourself to understand your knitting in a way that you never have before. Learn the anatomy of a happy, balanced knit stitch. See how stitches fit together to form a knit fabric. Using bulky and medium weight swatches, we will practice, practice, practice some of the most useful repair moves so that you can confidently perform basic repairs and get back to your knitting. 6 Fair Isle Felted Tote Susan s design for a felted tote uses small, traditional Fair Isle designs. You ll learn the essentials of successful color stranding and get a chance to practice, practice, practice. The final felting process will hide any imperfections and turn your very first Fair Isle project into a project to be proud of. Friday 3 to 5 pm May 5, 12, 19, plus 1 class TBA $50 plus supplies Teacher: Susan Take a Bow Lauren Riker s Take a Bow can be worked as a top or a dress. This cap sleeve, boat neck piece can be dressed up for special occasions or dressed down for casual occasions with jeans. There will be no increasing or decreasing in pattern to interrupt the flow and enjoyment of knitting the lace. You ll be working with a DK weight yarn which will make it easier to see your stitches. It s also an excellent project for improving your lace knitting and chart reading skill sets. 7 Lillie or Lyle s Little Sweater This hooded baby raglan cardigan is sized from newborn to 36 months. Work top down beginning with the hood. Button bands and button holes are worked in as you go. There will be absolutely no finishing other than working in your tails. This design works up quickly in a variety of medium weight yarns. Invest some time in learning this design and you will be able to whip up baby gifts in no time at all. 8 Caterpillar to Butterfly Scarf or Cowl Wonderful Wallaby A hoodie with a handwarmer kangaroo pouch. This timeless design by Carol Anderson of Cottage Creations is sized for the whole family, from 2 years to very ample adult. This is a first sweater friendly class. Kate loves nurturing beginners through their first major project. Experienced sweater knitters will also enjoy the extras that Kate brings to this project. Tuesday 7 to 9 pm May 9, 16, 23 June 20, 27 $60 plus supplies Teacher: Kate Humble garter stitch will morph before your very eyes into a graceful fashion piece. Planned dropped stitches create the fabric. You'll feel like you are watching a butterfly emerging from its cocoon when you let the stitches drop all the way down to the cast on. Kate has worked through all the technical details of how best to cast on and cast off so that your project will look polished. Choose the scarf version or the moebius cowl version. 9 Socks Cuff Down Begin your sock at the cuff so you will have plenty of time to get comfortable knitting in the round on small needles before learning how to shape the heel and toe. Finish the sock with kitchener stitch so that there will be no seam at the toe of your socks. 10 April Beginners Knitting for Beginners Learn to knit by making swatches of basic stitches. Emphasis is placed on learning to read your stitches so that you can become a confident knitter. Class also includes a taste of lace and cables. 8 to 10 am May 20, 27, June 3, 17 $60 includes all supplies Knit Beginner Project This hat and scarf combination gives graduates of our Knitting for Beginners class opportunity to practice and polish their basic skills. You ll learn to use circular and double pointed needles while making the hat. The hat will also be your introduction to multi gauge patterns, which allow you to make the same design in many different kinds of yarn.
