1 DOROTHY AKIYAMA SIMPLE LINE VEST Vests are fairly simple, sleeveless garments. Once you have a basic pattern, you can make it plain and simple or elegant by adding extra touches to suit your style. Come and explore the endless possibilities that Dorothy has to show and gain an understanding of how to combine several different stitch patterns as well as many knit and woven combinations. Variations of tuck and slip stitches will be covered. NEEDLE FELTING RUCHING Come and discover this simple and charming method of surface design. Ruching is a French term that means gathering, ruffling or pleating. This felting technique does not use any water. With a special felting needle, you can apply both wool roving and yarn, to felt your knits and other woven fabrics. If you wish to participate as a hands on class please prepare supplies prior to class. Smart knitters and crocheters will enjoy their increased flexibility and versatility with the ability to read and construct charts. Different charting systems will be covered, including Barbara G. You will knit a sample tube to explore this time-saving technique. Do not bind off either swatch; leave stitches on holder, contrast yarn holder, scrap off on waste yarn. We ll knit a pair of sample tubes to explore this time-saving technique, 2-at-a-Time back-and-forth knitting, increasing and decreasing, and we ll discuss converting conventional double-point or other-method tubular knitting patterns. Note-taking materials. PILE IT ON! CROCHET AKA SHAKES, SHINGLES, FISH SCALES, FRINGES AND OTHER FASCINATING CROCHETED FABRICS What a fun and easy technique this is! Another way of explaining this technique is to tell you this is double-faced crochet, derived from the crocheted Astrakhan stitch. Usually this stitch is created with single crochet and is quite dense and heavy, so in this class we ll open up and make it beautiful for practical use, including the creation of fabrics for garments, handbags, household articles, fabrics, and trims. So it s really opened it up in lots of unusual and fascinating new ways. Many different stitch patterns are presented in class including samples made in rounds and worked dimensionally. More stitch patterns are always on their way; this is one of the newest creatively crocheted surfaces! 6 THE VERSATILE GARTER STITCH Garter stitch is a very basic knit stitch and very popular too. Garter stitch is a really versatile and sturdy stitch easily created on the knitting machine with the garter carriage. The garter carriage can produce a purl stitch at any position in any row, which means it can be used to produce ribbing, garter stitch, seed stitch, moss stitch, basket weave stitch and other knit fabrics that depend on a combination of knit and purl stitches. LACE KNITTING When you think summer, you think summer lace shell. Now take a deep breathe and say I can knit lace. After this class, you will know the techniques required to knit lace. GARTER CARRIAGE NECK BANDS PLAIN OR FANCY Garter carriage neck bands plain or fancy are not as difficult to knit as you might think. Learn the proper instruction of the garter carriage while knitting neckbands. Several different styles, both plain and fancy, will be covered. TUCK STITCH & NEEDLE-OUT-OF-WORK TUCK STITCH Learn how to properly knit a tuck stitch and gain a better understanding of its structure and properties. Most tuck stitches produce a heavy fabric. Learn how to knit lighter weight tuck stitches by knitting with needles-out-of-work. HIGHLIGHTING A RAGLAN DECREASE High priced designer houses make a basic sweater look more expensive by highlighting the raglan decreases. MAINTENANCE & UNDERSTANDING YOUR RIBBER KNITTING MACHINE Richard will review the proper adjustment and alignment of your ribber in relation to the main bed. He will cover the basic maintenance of the ribber as well as the garter carriage and knitleader. PPD AND BEYOND Design your own original patterns right on the screen. The Pattern Programming Device lets you create your own patterns or edit preset patterns using up to 15 colors.
