Work next stitch P Purl S1, K1 Slip one as if to purl, knit one Sts Stitches PSSO Pass slipped stitch over knit stitch Tog Together PM/SM Place Markers, Slip Markers Ribbing K1, P1 across rows; always knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches. Garter Stitch Knit every row Stockinette Stitch Knit 1 row, purl 1 row Seed Stitch K1, P1 across rows. Next row and all additional rows - knit the purl stitches and purl the knit stitches. This will give a lovely bumpy pear pattern. Time consuming, but also elegant. Finishing Doll Clothes: When the knitting is complete and you have bound off leave at least an 8-12-inch strand for sewing the seam. Do this for all bound off areas: Sleeves, pant legs, end of blouse, jacket, skirt, purse, hat, etc. When finishing a garment and sewing seams always reinforce darning stitches with extra knots at seams for hips, waist, neck, tops of pants, crotch area, hats, purses, and at underarms of coats and jackets. Make the garment as child proof as possible. After sewing seams, do not cut the strands too short. Always leave at least 1-2 inches to weave in the ends. Helpful Hints: After you cast on at the beginning of each garment, on the NEXT ROW, always knit in the BACK of each stitch across the row, back to the beginning. This will form a nice even cast on row. Then follow the instructions to begin the pattern. Remember to leave a strand of yarn 5-6 inches long at the start of a project. This end with the long strand will always be the right side of the garment. Then, if you put the knitting down for a few minutes, you will know if you are ready to begin the right side or start to work back on the wrong side. Once you knit the raglan increases, decrease to the waist, and increase for the hips, you will have mastered the basic instructions for these patterns. The rest of the instructions are changes to these basic stitches for necklines, sleeves, skirts or pants, and various fancy stitches to provide variety in your knitted creations. When you have completed some of these doll clothes, you should have no trouble understanding raglan instructions for baby, child and adult sweaters and baby or adult afghans with fancy stitches. Final Remarks Before You Begin: Remember, you are knitting tiny doll clothes. The knitting goes fast and you will soon have a complete wardrobe for your fashion dolls. Proudly display them standing on metal stands. When dressing your dolls, be very careful when inserting their arms into Sleeves don t let the fingers catch on the yarn stitches. If you are knitting for a very young girl, age 4 to 6, you should try the sleeveless or cap sleeve dresses and sweaters, or dresses with thin straps. Older girls, age 8 and up are more careful about inserting hands and arms into the garments and pulling gently to fit securely at neck, shoulders, waist, hips and feet fully into each boot. With care, these doll clothes will last forever.

6 created by Elaine Baker Knitting Patterns For 11-½-Inch Teen Fashion Dolls Page 6 of 13 Sheath Dress with Garter Stitch Purse With #2 needles cast on 32 sts. Knit in garter stitch for 8 rows. Purl 1 row. Knit in garter stitch for 6 rows. Purl 1 row. Knit in garter stitch for 9 rows. Bind off. Leave a long 30-inch strand to sew seams and make purse strap. Fold purse like an envelope, down from top to first purl row, up from the bottom to purl row. Sew side seams where bottom is folded up. Leave the top flap loose. With long strand make a crochet chain of 55 sts and attach to both sides of the purse. When playtime is over, always remind the child to put all small items: hat, purse, boots, etc. in the neckline of the garment for safekeeping. This will keep the entire outfit safe and ready for the next time. NOTE: This outfit is adorable knit in all one color. I have made it in bright yellow, bright red, turquoise, and salmon pink. All outfits sold immediately. I have also knitted this dress and purse in light orange with a dark burnt sienna coat and hat. I had a special request to knit this in shades of lavender. Made the garter stitch parts in lavender, with the stockinette-stitched parts of the dress in purple. If you knit this pattern with the mini-skirt, you should consider making a pair of Go-Go boots to match all the same color. It looks terrific! To avoid misplacing this item, when doll is dressed, place the purse strap over her head, slanted across the front and settled at her side. Don t just slip the strap over one shoulder it will get lost! Continued on the next page
