2 Mystic Lanterns Crochet-a Long JANE CROWFOOT She has worked out a clever meld of the architectural ogee shape and the humble granny square. The ogee motifs are first crocheted end to end in strips. The strips are then crocheted together with a contrast color. Our afghan version currently underway is using all 12 colors of Liberty Wool Shadow by Classic Elite Yarns. Finer fingering weight yarns will be great for the scarf and shawl versions. For those who have trouble making colors decisions for multi-color projects, Jane has a foolproof system to keep you from wasting valuable crochet time thinking about what color to use next. e January, February, March Work on your mystic lantern project during open stitching times Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings. Brioche Split Cowl Brioche knitting is spongy and airy, just like the pastry from which it takes its name. This cowl is split over your shoulders and joined into the round to create a cozy winter turtle neck. Wear it over your coat or inside your coat. If you like to turn the thermostat down, you may enjoy wearing it indoors. In this intro to brioche class, you ll work two color brioche flat and in the round. You ll get a taste of increasing and decreasing in a brioche fabric. Class will also include the basic dare to repair techniques for brioche fabric. 3 Ferryboat Mitts It will be a sweet moment in your knitting life when you pause to admire your thumb gusset perfectly increasing in pattern, the newly created rib stitches fanning out from the original rib in perfect symmetry. You ll be able to choose a long or a short cuff and work with a wide variety of medium weight yarns. Also, this is a truly unisex design. You can wear ferryboat mitts over a pair of basic gloves to extend their wearing season. Work the mitts with DPNs, 2 circular needles, or magic loop method as you prefer. You can also use this project as a challenge to use a new circular knitting technique. Please work your beginning cuff as homework so that you can jump right into the thumb gusset in class. In this one session class Debbie will get you off to a good start on your scarf. You ll have time to begin your piece and get through the first few hearts. 4 Silverbell Ruana Knit a Long This dramatic, color blocked ruana is worked in 5 shades of Vermont, a wool and alpaca blend from Tahki s Terra Collection of earth friendly yarns. Designer Irina Poludnenko has used color changes and a variety of stitch patterns to make this an enjoyable project. Work at your own pace and join us on Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings during open knitting times to make progress on your ruana. 5 Storm Mountain Ready for a more challenging project? Heidi Kirrmaier s Storm Mountain could be the right project for you. Join our Heidi for a 6-session class to make this flutter front cardigan. It is worked top down with raglan shaping created with rows of eyelets. The rows of eyelets continue down the back producing a gentle flare that is flattering on everyone who wears it. Sometimes seamless sweaters suffer from lack of structure that causes them to lose shape. Julie has solved this problem by adapting the English Tailored Shoulder to hand knitting. This technique gives your sweater good bones, providing structure and support in the critical shoulder area. Your choices for your class project include the Emma pullover, Emma cardigan, or Franca, a shawl collared, long cardigan with slouchy pockets. 6 Dare to Repair Challenge yourself to understand your knitting in a way that you never have before. Learn the anatomy of a happy, balanced knit stitch. See how stitches fit together to form a knit fabric. Using bulky and medium weight swatches, we will practice, practice, practice some of the most useful repair moves so that you can confidently perform basic repairs and get back to your knitting. 3 to 5 pm Jan 20, 27, Feb 3 Teacher: Paula Lillie or Lyle s Little Sweater This hooded baby raglan cardigan is sized from newborn to 36 months. Work top down beginning with the hood. Button bands and button holes are worked in as you go. There will be absolutely no finishing other than working in your tails. This design works up quickly in a variety of medium weight yarns. Invest some time in learning this design and you will be able to whip up baby gifts in no time at all. Pattern also includes baby doll, preemie, hood and no hood versions. You will learn to manage two colors of yarn while knitting two layers of fabric at the same time. The result will be a two-sided reversible scarf that will look beautiful on both sides of the fabric. You'll work with our own shop mitten pattern written for all sizes and weights of yarn. That time would be now, in January, when there is no pressure and the luxury of time to enjoy your knitting. Debbie loves introducing people to color stranded knitting and has a bag of tricks to help you be successful. Choose your own combination of charts for traditional Christmas motifs from a selection that includes all the favorites such as Santas, candy canes, hearts, snowflakes, Xmas trees, and reindeer. You ll learn to use circular and double pointed needles while making the hat.
