3 Knitting Classes Beginning Knitting During the first 2 classes, you will learn to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease & cast off. On the 3rd class session, you will pick out an easy project, learn to read knitting instructions & work on your chosen project for the remainder of the course. Fee: $78/4 week class. Wed. Beginning Knitting can be taken only two times and then you must move up to Intermediate Knitting:) Intermediate Knitting/Crocheting You will learn more advanced techniques of your choice. For example, you can choose a simple cabled sweater pattern, a fair isle pattern, an intarsia pattern - the choice is yours! This class can be taken over and over and over and over. 4 Technique Classes Correcting Mistakes with Darlene Joyce Are you tired of running into the shop every time the stitches fall off the needle? Come and learn how to correct common mistakes made while knitting. You will learn to pick up dropped stitches in stockinette, garter, and at the end of the row. The class will include exercises in dropping down pattern stitches, picking up dropped stitches, and ripping out rows of knitting and getting stitches back on the needle. Please pick up homework sheet. Sat. March p.m. Magic Loop Technique with Darlene Joyce Choose a sock or a mitten pattern and learn how to use the magic loop technique to cast on and work in the round. Please pick yarn and needles that is appropriate for the pattern. Suggested patterns are Mosaic s Basic Sock pattern & Waiting for Winter Mittens. Wed. March 8 1:30-3:30 p.m. Fair Isle Knitting with June Sorensen Learn the traditional way of knitting stranded knitting using one color of yarn in each hand. You will combine both English and Continental knitting. Saturday, March 11, 10 a.m. 3 p.m. (with a lunch break) Fee: $55 Project Classes Molly Scarf with June Sorensen Learn how to work this ruffled scarf with a special short row technique. June will teach you now to knit back backwards to avoid all the pesky turning. All the colors of the Liberty wool are gorgeous! Thurs. March p.m. Baby Cables & Big Ones Too with Darlene Joyce Designed by Suvi Simola. This beautiful and original garment combines modern vanishing cables and two all time classics, garter stitch and stockinette. It s beautiful and unusual and never goes out of style. The sweater is worked seamlessly from topdown and requires minimal finishing Wed. March 15, 29, April 5 & 12 1:30-3:30 p.m. Fee: $88 4 week class Caltha with June Sorensen Designed by Heather Zoppetti. Knit in Bloom. Bloom is a blend of ultra-soft Tibetan yak down and the finest Chinese silk, this luminous lace weight yarn knits up into stunning finished pieces. While yak makes the yarn warm enough to take the chill off on a crisp winter night, the light lace is perfect for spring and summer knitting. 5 Fisherwoman s Cowl with Emily Hrobsk y Learn how to do traditional Fisherman s rib. This technique is different than Brioche knitting. It involves knitting in the row below. You will make a simple scarf and you can sew the ends together to form a cowl if you prefer. This stitch can be used for the whole family! Sat. March p.m. Shoulder Cozy with K ate Joyce Holding a fuzzy yarn with a smoother yarn, you will learn how to do an e cast on and knit garter stitch in the round. You will need to have a 24 circular needle in a size US 13. If you need help choosing your yarn, come a little early for class! Rigid Heddle Weaving: Colorplay with Georg Luxton Learn plaids and stripe color patterns with your rigid heddle loom. Knowledge of plain weave (tabby weave) necessary. Students must know how to warp a loom. Op-Art Cowls: Spiral with Darlene Joyce Designed by VersaciKnits. This collection includes 4 different op-art patterned cowls based on geometric shapes, each of which has a different border treatment. They are worked as 2 color slip-stitch patterns, which is a wonderful way to produce beautiful colorwork patterns while still working with only one yarn at a time. 1:30-3:30 p.m. Jenny s T-shirt with Darlene Joyce (designed by Vera Sanon) Knit this beautiful top down raglan sleeve top. Vera incorporates a lovely lace panel in the front. If you would like a more modest look, you can stop the lace sooner. Darlene used the Handmaiden Flaxen but you can pick a more moderately priced yarn if you prefer. Sat. April 22 to May 6 Fee: $ p.m. Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving: Getting to Know Your Loom with Georg Luxton Learn the parts of the loom and weaving terminology. Students will assemble their loom, warp it and do a balanced weave using worsted weight yarn purchased from MYS. 6 Crochet Classes Beginning/ Intermediate Crochet This class is for crocheters of any skill level. It is tailored around what you know and what you'd like to learn. If you're new to crochet, you'll get started with chain, single, and double crochet stitches. Already know the basics? Then learn to read patterns and stitch diagrams. If you want to learn classics like granny squares, doilies, motifs, or filet crochet, only your imagination is the limit! Come prepared with a project of your choosing, and let's get started. Wed. Learn short row shaping and Tunisian extended simple stitch to create feminine ruffle scarf. Choose your favorite fingering weight yarn (at least 425 yards). Students must purchase Tunisian Crochet Encore from MYS. Experience in Tunisian crochet required. Tues. March a.m - 12 p.m. Lovely Existence with Darlene Joyce This class is for crocheters who already know a little Tunisian crochet. Learn how to do a simple eyelet pattern and fit the sweater to you. March 25, April 1 & 8 Fee: $ p.m. 3 week class Cottage with Darlene Joyce Darlene designed this shawl for the Chicago Yarn Crawl. Learn traditional techniques for crocheting a basic shawl with simple lace edging. Pattern on Ravelry (free with class). Thurs. April 13 & p.m. Fee: $55 2 week class Exploring Tunisian Crochet with Darlene Joyce Saturday, March a.m. - 3 p.m. (with one hour lunch break) During the first half of class you will learn the basics of Tunisian crochet including the anatomy of Tunisian crochet stitches, Tunisian simple stitch, Tunisian knit stitch, abbreviations, etc. During the second half, advanced applications of Tunisian will be explored. Please ask for a supply list when registering. Fee: $55. Pre-registration required. 7 Class Policies Class Materials: Except when noted, yarns must be purchased from Mosaic Yarn Studio. Come in as soon as possible to pick out your supplies in case we need to order something. Students receive a 10% discount on all class materials! Please come to class with any gadgets you might need! Pre-Registration: Pre-registration is required for all classes. You may register by phone via Visa/Mastercard or you can send in the class registration form above. Of course, you can always register in person! Minimum: A minimum of students is required in order for a class to run. You will be notified one week in advance if the minimum is not met and your deposit will be refunded. Cancellation: Store credit can be issued for your deposit if we are notified one week before the start of class. After this point, deposits are non-refundable. Out of courtesy to our instructors, no make-up classes are given. All Classes: 100% payment is due at the time of registration. Private Lessons We offer private lessons at $32.00 per hour.
