(82yds/75m) pull skeins GAUGE: 18 sts + 20 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Lace Pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles. STITCH EXPLANATION: s2kp (slip 2 sts-knit next st-pass 2 slipped sts over) A double decrease worked as follows: 1. Insert right needle into next 2 sts as if to k2tog, and slip these 2 sts to the right needle. 2. Knit the next st. 3. With tip of left needle, lift the 2 slipped sts (the 2nd and 3rd sts on right needle) up and over the knit st (first st on right needle) and off the needle - you have decreased 2 sts. ssk (slip, slip, knit) Slip next 2 sts as if to knit, one at a time, to right needle; insert left needle into fronts of these 2 sts and knit them tog - 1 st decreased. yo (yarn over) An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows: 1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles. 2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed. 3 NOTES: 1. Shawl begins at the center back neck and is shaped by working 6 yarn over (yo) increases on every RS row. 2. Shawl consists of 3 pie-shaped sections, all worked at the same time. 3. Shawl can be worked from the written instructions or by following the charts. If working from charts, read RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right. Work Rows 1-64 of Chart A then and work Rows by working from Charts B and Chart C simultaneously. 4. If following chart, be sure to refer to written instructions for Row 28 to place markers.
