2 ALTA BY AMY HERZOG WHAT S A MASH-UP? CustomFit can t do everything! Some of my designs, like Alta, can t be built directly into CustomFit. Mash-up worksheets help you use CustomFit to get as close as possible to a custom version of a sweater that s not built directly into the site. They work like this: 1. Make sure you have a CustomFit measurement set, and swatch as described here to get your custom gauge. 2. Generate a CustomFit pattern via the Build Your Own pattern wizard, using the choices listed; this costs $ While you follow your CustomFit pattern, also follow any special instructions for the piece you re knitting, at the same time. This means you re following 2 files as you knit! 3 OVERVIEW Alta is a fairly basic scoop-neck pullover, with a wide cable panel on the front and two smaller cable panels on the sleeves. While CustomFit can t mix Alta s waist shaping and cable panel together, it s fairly easy to use CustomFIt to reproduce Alta: You ll add stitches to the front CO and the sleeve COs of the sweater, and work cablesl straight up the front to the neckline, and all the way to the sleeve cap on the sleeve.. BUILD YOUR OWN CHOICES Once you ve swatched and entered your measurements into CustomFit, create your starting pattern by going to the Build Your Own Pattern wizard at Please use these choices: silhouette: hourglass construction: sleeved pullover Neckline: shape: scoop width: average depth: 5.5 (14 cm) below shoulders edge height: 10 (25 cm) Sleeves: length: long shape: tapered edge height: 3 (7.5 cm) Hem: length: average edge height: 2 1/2 (6.5 cm) Please use a dk-weight or worsted-weight yarn to preserve the existing width of the cable panels. Thinner yarns will produce narrower panels; thicker yarns wider ones. BACK SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS Purl the first RS row after completing your hem ribbing. Otherwise, work as described in your CustomFit pattern. FRONT SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS Cast on the number of stitches specified in your CustomFit pattern, plus 13 additional stitches to account for cable shrinkage. Mark your center 67 stitches. Ribbing set-up row (RS): [p 2, k 2] to first marker, ending in k 2, sm, [p2, k3, p2], pm, [k2, p1, k2, p3, k2, p1, k2], pm, [p2, k2, p4, k3, p5, k3, p4, k2, p2], pm, [k2, p1, k2, p3, k2, p1, k2], pm, [p2, k3, p2], pm, [k2, p2] to end. Cable set-up row (RS): Knit the knits and purl the purls across the row. Work even as established until piece measures 2½ /6.5 cm from CO edge, ending with a WS row. Work your last row as follows: Next row (WS): Knit to first marker, work as established to last marker, knit to end. This creates the purl ridge at the top of the ribbing. Set up Cables: Next row (RS): Knit to first marker, sm, p1, work Row 1 of Willow Buds, p1, sm, work Row 1 of Lace Ladder and Twist, sm, p1, work Row 1 of Thick and Thin Lattice, p1, sm, work Row 1 of Lace Ladder and Twist, sm, p1, work Row 1 of Willow Buds, p1, sm, knit to end. Keeping marked stitches in cable panels and side stitches in Stockinette, complete front as written in your CustomFit pattern. Work all waist shaping 1 st on the outside of your center cable panel instead of placing waist shaping markers. SLEEVES SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS Cast on the number of stitches specified in your CustomFit pattern, plus 3 additional stitches to account for cable shrinkage. Mark your center 17 stitches. Ribbing set-up row 1 (RS): [p 2, k 2] to first marker, 3

4 ending in a k 2, sm, [p 2, k 3] three times, p 2, sm, [k 2, p 2] to end. Ribbing set-up row 2 (WS): Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches. Work even in ribbing as established until sleeve measures 3 /7.5 cm from CO edge, ending with a RS row. Next row (WS): Knit to first marker, work as established to next marker, knit to end. This creates the purl ridge at the top of the ribbing. Cable set-up row (RS): Knit to first marker, sm, p1, work Row 1 of Willow Bud chart, work Row 3 of Willow Bud chart, work Row 1 of Willow Bud chart, p1, sm, knit to end. Keeping marked stitches in Willow Bud panel, complete sleeve as specified in your CustomFit pattern. On your final row before BOs at top of sleeve, decrease 3 sts in Willow Buds. FINISHING SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS Work as specified in your CustomFit pattern, increasing needle size every 5 / 12.5 cm if you desire a drapey turtleneck as shown here. 4
