1 DWD Free Pattern #21 Easy Long Sleeve (Jumper) for Robert Tonner s Large 19-inch Male Dolls (Shown on Peter Pevensie from the Narnia collection) This easy pullover is one I designed to fit Robert Tonner s large (19-inch) male dolls. The top has an easy raglan sleeve design, with a back opening that closes with snaps. You can knit it up plain or use it as a basic design to add your own cables or color patterns. It can be made with short sleeves as well. This is a very versatile pattern. Rating: #1 Easy - The actual knitting is quite simple with easy simulated raglan sleeve design. You need to be able to read instructions, knit, purl, increase, and decrease stitches. Uses lace weight yarn on size 2/0 (00 or 1.75 mm) needles with a gauge of 13 sts and 16 rows per inch. Or use whatever yarn to obtain the same gauge, approximately 300 yards or meters required, plus 7 small snaps Gauge: 13 stitches per inch, 16 rows per inch on 2/0 (00 or 1.75 mm) needles (or whatever size it takes to obtain the gauge). Read through all instructions before you begin. 3 Row 90: (WS) Bind off 3 stitches at beginning of row, P to end. (41 sts) Row 91: (RS) K1, SSK Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1. (39 sts) Leave sleeve on spare needle. Break yarn leaving about a 10-inch tail. Repeat for second sleeve. Steam and block sleeves at this time while they are flat and do NOT stretch out the ribbing. Let it stay tight. Body: Using 3/0 (000 or 1.5 mm) needles, cast on 121 sts. Work ribbing as follows: Row 1: (RS) [K1, P1]* Repeat to last stitch, K1 Row 2: (WS) [P1, K1]* Repeat to last stitch, P1 Repeat rows 1 and 2 through row 18. Row 19: (RS) Change to 2/0 (00 or 1.75 mm) needles and begin stockinette stitch pattern, Work even, Knit all RS (odd number) rows and Purl all WS (even number) rows Row 20: (WS) P Rows 21 through row 38: work even in stockinette stitch pattern Row 39: (RS) K Row 40: (WS) P all sts to end. Cast on 4 sts for placket using the in-between stitch method. This puts placket on correct side for a boy doll. (125 sts) NOTE: I found that if I now worked a double garter stitch edge at the beginning and end of each row for the rest of the body that the placket laid down flatter and smoother. I will give the instructions here if you wish to work it. Start on Row 41, if you wish to use this method. It will not be mentioned for every row. Double Garter Stitch Edge: On every row, slip the first stitch knit wise, knit the second stitch, and then work to the end of the row, knitting the last two stitches. Rows 41 through row 68, Continue to work even in stockinette stitch. Row 69: (RS) Divide and work as follows: K30 sts for left back (includes 4 sts for placket), Bind off (Cast off) 8 sts for armhole, K53 sts for front, Bind off 8 sts for armhole; K26 sts for right back (109 sts) While the sweater body is flat, I like to steam and block it. Once again, do NOT stretch out the bottom ribbing. Let it stay tight. Let the body dry thoroughly. Row 70: (WS) P to first cast off section, place marker, purl in first sleeve in the cast off section, place marker, P to second cast off section, place marker, purl in second sleeve in the cast off section, place marker, P to end. You should have four markers on your row (187 sts) NOTE: You will need to squish the sleeve stitches in the cast off area. It will seem rather tight at the moment until you continue to decrease more stitches. By the 5 th row it will become quite easy to handle. 3

4 Decrease for simulated raglan sleeve. Row count begins again. Work as follows: Row 1: (RS) [K to 2 sts before first marker, K2tog, sl marker, then SSK]* Repeat, working a total of 4 times, K to end. You are decreasing 8 sts on every Knit row (RS). (179 sts) Row 2: (WS) P all sts Row 3 through row 32: Repeat rows 1 and 2. Stitch count on rows 31 and 32 should be 59 sts Do NOT break yarn! Keep all live stitches on needle! Neck ribbing: Change to 3/0 (000 or 1.5 mm) needles Row 1: (RS) [K1, P1]* Repeat to last stitch, K1 Row 2: (WS) [P1, K1]* Repeat to last stitch, P1 Rows 3 through row 6: Repeat rows 1 and 2 Row 7: (RS) Bind off all sts in pattern Finishing: Sew up the sleeve seams and the under arm seam area. Sew up back seam to placket. I hand tack the placket bottom edge down, making sure the stitches do not show on the right side. Weave in all yarn ends. You may wish to attach a piece of ¼ inch wide (5 cm) silk to the wrong side of the left back and the placket if you did not work the Double Garter stitch. Attach 7 snaps to the placket area for closure. I put a snap at the top and bottom of the neck ribbing to make a smoother fit. Steam and block once again and do NOT stretch out the ribbing on the sleeves and body. Let dry thoroughly. NOTE: I block all my sweaters on my counter top in the laundry room. I use a portable ironing pad I purchased from Joann s. It has a nice cushy pad. On top I fold a white terry towel in half. I place my sweater on the towel and stick my pins straight down into the sweater. I use a good steam iron on the wool setting and hover above about 1 inch. I push my steam button on my iron for a few bursts of steam. I lightly press with my fingers to make sure it is even and smooth. Then I let the garment dry a few hours or overnight. 6 RULES TO KNIT BY For successful doll knitting, I have found the following Rules to Knit By work every time to produce successful results. 1. Make a swatch and check your gauge. I knit up my swatch and let it rest over night. This way the yarn has a chance to relax and be more accurate. Also, and even more important, check your gauge (tension) while you are knitting. Keep an even tension and correct it early to avoid wasting hours of knitting only to have a sweater that does not quite fit! 2. Read through the instructions first, before you begin. Check all the terms and abbreviations used to make sure you understand how the garment is to be made. If there is a new technique in the pattern, practice it first on a scrap piece before you attempt it on your garment. 3. For doll knitting, I found knitting only with natural yarns work the best. I prefer wool, silk, alpaca or blends of these yarns. I do not like to waste my time on inferior yarns. I do not recommend sock yarn for any of my patterns. 4. Steam and block your sweater! This is like pressing when you sew. I do it several times while knitting. This insures a wonderful finished product that looks professional. 6
