1 Knit or crochet an adorable cardigan and bonnet set or blanket and backpack to accessorize Simplicity doll clothes pattern #1952. #3 Lightweight Baby Yarn Color A: 1 oz (28 g); Color B: 2 oz (56 g) Boye Size 6 (4 mm) Knitting Needles, or size Stitch Markers Stitch Holders For Cardigan: One 4" (10 cm) piece of hook and loop tape or 4 snaps; 4 buttons (optional), one small sew on appliqué (optional) With size 6 (4 mm) needles in St st, 22 sts x 30 rows = 4" (10 cm) *Take time to check gauge* Kfb (knit front & back): Knit into the front and back of the stitch, then slip st off needle. Knitted Cardigan and Bonnet DIRECTIONS FOR KNITTED CARDIGAN With Color A, CO 76 sts. Rows 1-4: Knit. At the end of Row 4, cut Color A, leaving a 12" (30 cm) tail. Place first 4 sts on hold for right front placket. Row 5: (RS) With Color B, knit to last 4 sts and place last 4 sts on hold for left front placket. Continue working on center 68 sts only. Row 6: Purl.Cont working in St st until piece measures 3" (7.5 cm) from beginning, ending with a purl row. Divide for front and back Next Row: (RS) K52, place rem 16 left front sts on hold. Next Row: P36, place rem 16 right front sts on hold. Cont working in St st on center 36 sts until back measures 5 1/2" (14 cm), ending with a purl row. CO = cast on; BO = bind off; k = knit; k2tog = knit 2 together; p = purl; PU = pick up and knit; rem = remaining; rep = repeat; RS = right side; st(s) = stitch(es); St st = stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row); WS = wrong side Cardigan: 6 1/2" (16.5 cm) wide x 6" (15 cm) long Bonnet Width: 4 1/2" (11.5 cm) deep x 5" (13 cm) high Shoulders Next Row: (RS) K12, place rem 24 sts on holder 12 sts. Work 3 more rows in St st. BO. Leaving center 12 sts on holder for back neck, place 12 sts for left back shoulder back on needle. Work 4 rows in St st as for first shoulder. BO. Right Front Place 16 right front sts on needle. Continue in St st until piece measures 4 1/2" (11.5 cm), ending with a purl row. BO 1 st at beg of next 4 RS rows 12 sts. Work even until front measures same length as back, ending with a purl row. BO. Left Front Place 16 left front sts on needle. Continue in St st until

Knitted Blanket and Backpack Front Plackets Place 4 right front placket sts on needle. With Color A, knit every row until placket is same length as front to beginning of decreases, ending with a WS row. Do not BO. Place these sts on stitch holder. Sew placket to body of cardigan. Rep for left placket. Neck Sew front and back shoulders. With RS facing and Color A, knit 4 sts from right front placket holder; PU 14 sts along front neck to shoulder, PU 6 sts on back right shoulder, knit 12 sts from back neck holder, PU 6 sts on back left shoulder, PU 14 sts along front neck to corner, knit 4 sts from left front placket holder 60 sts. Knit 4 rows. BO loosely. Sleeves (Makes 2) With Color A, CO 24 sts. Rows 1-4: Knit. At the end of Row 4 cut Color A. Row 5: With Color B, knit. Row 6: Purl. Row 7: Kfb, knit to last st, kfb 26 sts. Continue working in St st, increasing 1 st at each end of every 4th row 4 more times 34 sts. Work even until sleeve measures 4" (10 cm). BO all sts loosely. FINISHING Fold sleeve with RS together. Sew sleeve seam. Insert sleeve into armhole and sew in place. Rep for other sleeve. Sew snaps or hook and loop tape to either side of placket. Sew buttons on front placket, if desired. Sew applique to shoulder, if desired. Weave in all ends. DIRECTIONS FOR BONNET With Color B, CO 56 sts. Row 1: (RS) Knit. Row 2: K3, purl to last 3 sts, k3. Rep Rows 1-2 until bonnet measures 4" (10 cm), ending with a WS row. Cut Color B. Change to Color A and knit 5 rows. BO loosely. Fold bonnet in half and sew back seam. Ties (Makes 2) With Color A, CO 60 sts. BO all sts. Sew ties to each edge of front of bonnet. CO = cast on; cont = continue; BO = bind off; in = inch; k = knit; k2tog = knit 2 together; p = purl; rem = remaining; rep = repeat; RS = right side; st(s) = stitch(es); St st = stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl one row); WS = wrong side; yo = yarn over Blanket: 12" (30 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) long Backpack: 4" (10 cm) wide x 4" (10 cm) high #3 Lightweight Baby Yarn Color A: 3 oz (84 g); Color B: 1 oz (28 g) Boye Size 6 (4 mm) Knitting Needles, or size Stitch Markers With size 6 (4 mm) needles in St st, 22 sts x 30 rows = 4" (10 cm). Gauge is not critical for backpack or blanket. Feather and Fan Pattern for Blanket Multiple of Row 1: (RS) Knit. Row 2: Purl. Row 3: K1, *(k2tog) 3 times, (yo, k1) 6 times, (k2tog) 3 times; rep from * to last st, k1. Row 4: Knit. Rep Rows 1-4 for pattern.

3 DIRECTIONS FOR BLANKET With Color A, CO 74 sts. Work in Feather and Fan pattern until blanket measures 18" (46 cm) or desired length ending with Row 4 of pattern. BO in knit. Weave in all ends. Steam lightly if desired. Crochet Cardigan and Bonnet DIRECTIONS FOR BACKPACK With Color A, CO 25 sts. Rows 1-4: Knit. Row 5 (eyelet row): *K2, yo, k2tog, rep from * to last st, K1 6 eyelets made. Row 6: Purl. Row 7: Knit. Cont in St st until piece measures 3" (7.5 cm) below eyelets, ending with a purl row. Change to Color B. Do NOT cut Color A. Turning Ridge: Knit 2 rows with Color B. Cut Color B. Change to Color A and beg with a knit row, continue in St st until piece measures 3" (7.5 cm) from garter ridge ending with a purl row. Rep Row 5 (eyelet row). Knit next 4 rows. BO all sts. Fold backpack with RS together along Turning Ridge. Sew sides. Straps (Makes 2) With Color B, CO 4 sts. Knit every row until strap measures 9" (23 cm) when gently stretched. BO all sts. Sew one end of strap to lower side edge and other end to center of backpack just below eyelets. Tie With Color B, CO 90 sts. BO all sts. Weave in ends. Hdc2tog: (Yarn over, insert hook into next st and pull up a loop) 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

4 DIRECTIONS FOR CARDIGAN With Color A, ch 57. Row 1: RS Hdc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across 56 hdc. Row 2: Ch 2, turn (does not count as a st here and throughout). Hdc in same st and each st across. Rows 3-10: Repeat Row 2. Right Front Row 1: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in same st and next 14 sts 15 hdc. Rows 2-6: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in same st and next 14 sts. Row 7: Ch 1, turn. Sl st in first 7 sts, ch 1, hdc in same st and next 8 sts 9 hdc. Rows 8-11: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in same st and next 8 sts. Fasten off at the end of Row 11. Left Front Row 1: With RS facing, sl st in 15 st from end of row. Ch 2, hdc in same st and next 14 sts 15 hdc. Rows 2-6: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in same st and next 14 sts. Row 7: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in same st and next 8 sts, slip st in top of next st, turn 9 hdc. Row 8: Sl st in top of 1st hdc, ch 1. Hdc in same st and next 8 sts 9 hdc. Rows 9-11: Ch 1, turn. Hdc in same st and next 8 sts. Fasten off at the end of Row 11. Back Row 1: With RS facing, skip 1 st (for sleeve). Join with sl st, ch 2, hdc in same st and next 23 sts 24 hdc. Note: 1 st on this side will also remain unworked. Rows 2-11: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in same st and next 23 sts. Fasten off at the end of Row 11. With right sides facing, join shoulders to back. Sleeve (Makes 2) With wrong side facing, sl st in unworked stitch between front and back sections. Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc in same stitch. Work 27 hdc evenly around sleeve opening, sl st in first hdc to join 28 hdc. Rnd 2: Ch 1, turn, hdc around, sl st in first hdc to join. Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn, hdc2tog, hdc in each st around, sl st in first hdc to join. Continue working in rnds as above, decreasing 1 st every other rnd at underarm of sleeve, until 21 hdc remain. Work even 2 more rnds. Fasten off. Sleeve Edging Rnd 1: With Color B, join with sl st on underside of sleeve; sc in each st around, sl st in first st to join. Rnds 2-3: Ch 1, turn. Sc flo in each st around, sl st in first st to join. Rnd 4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in both loops in each st around. Fasten off. Bottom Edging Row 1: With Color B and RS facing, join with sl st in lower Left Front corner. Ch 1. Sc in each st across bottom edge of body. Rows 2-3: Ch 1, turn. Sc flo in each st across. Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in both loops of each st across. Fasten off. Neck/Front Edging Row 1: With Color B and RS facing, join with sl st in lower Right Front Corner. Ch 1, work 25 sc evenly along Right Front edge, 33 sc around neck and 25 sc along Left Front edge. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st around, working sc2tog on each inner corner of neck edge and 3sc in each outer corner of neck edge. Row 3: On right edge only, ch 1, sc in first 2 sc, picot in next sc, *sc in next 3 sc, picot in next sc, rep from * along right edge only, ending sc in last two sc. Fasten off. FINISHING Weave in all ends. Sew snaps or hook and loop tape to either side of placket. Sew buttons on front placket, if desired. Sew applique to shoulder, if desired. DIRECTIONS FOR BONNET With Color A, ch 46. Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across 44 hdc. Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc in first st and each st across. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 4" (10 cm). Fold bonnet in half with RS together. Ch 1, insert hook into first sc in front and first sc on back; sc through both sts. Rep for remaining sts on front and back of bonnet. Fasten off and weave in all ends. Lower Bonnet Edging Row 1: With Color A and RS facing, join with sl st to lower edge of bonnet, ch 1, sc in base of each row across. Rows 2-4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first sc (sc flo) to last sc, sc in both loops of last sc. Fasten off at end of Row 4. Front Bonnet Edging Row 1: With Color B and RS facing, join with sl st in corner, ch 1, sc same st, work 2 more sc in bottom trim, 43 sc along beg ch, 3 sc in other edge of bottom trim 49 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc across. Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in first sc, picot, *sc in next 3 sc, picot, rep from * to last 2 sc, sc in last 2 sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

5 Bonnet Ties (Makes 2) With Color B, ch 61. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off, leaving long tails. Sew ties to bonnet. With G hook and Color A, ch 69. DIRECTIONS FOR BLANKET Row 1: (RS) Dc in 3rd ch from hook, (CL over next 2 chs) twice, ch 1, (dc in next ch, ch 1) 5 times, *(CL over next 2 chs) 6 times, ch 1, (dc in next ch, ch 1) 5 times; rep from * to last 6 chs, (CL over next 2 chs) 3 times; ch 2, turn. Row 2: Sk first st, dc in next st, (CL over next st and next ch-1 sp) twice; ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, (dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1) twice; *(CL over next ch-1 sp and next st) twice, (CL over next 2 sts) twice, (CL over next st and next ch-1 sp) twice, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, (dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1) twice; rep from * to last 2 ch-1 sps; (CL over next ch-1 sp and next st) twice, CL over next 2 sts; ch 2, turn, skipping beg 2 skipped chs. Foundation Row: Sc in 2nd ch and in each ch to last ch, 3 sc in last ch, sc in ea unworked loop on other side of chain, ending with 2 sc in last ch 40 sc. Place marker in last sc to keep your place. Work in a spiral from now on. Do not join; do not turn. Rnd 1: Hdc in blo around (creates ridge for turning). Rnds 2-13: Hdc in each hdc around. Rnd 14: (Eyelet Row) Hdc in first 2 sts, *ch 1, sk 1 st, hdc in next 4 sts, rep from * around, ending last rep hdc in last 2 hdc 8 eyelets made. Rnds 15-16: Hdc in ea hdc around. Fasten off at the end of Rnd 16. Straps (Make 2) With Color B, ch 40. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and ea ch to last ch, 3 sc in last ch, sc in each unworked loop back to beg. Fasten off. Sew one end of ea strap to lower side edge and other end to center of backpack, just below eyelets. Tie With Color B, ch 51. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Beginning in center of backpack on opposite side from straps, weave tie through eyelets.
