2 NSQG April 015 Meeting Minutes The meeting was called to order by our president Judy Miller. She introduced the new board members. There will not be a board meeting in May. Mary Kay Anderson and Pat Goeden from contracts brought up the fact that we needed our own projector for presentations. After a discussion a motion was made to purchase a projector and it was seconded. Jim Kennedy said that he would match donations for the projector. By the end of the meeting he thought we were half way there. Joanie Zeier Poole will be a presenter in August. A count of interested members was taken to determine the possibility of a workshop on machine quilting being offered after the presentation. Next months speaker will be Chris Kirsch whose topic will be "Tradition with a twist". Cheryl Kagen for contracts reported that two were already secured for next year. One of the programs for next year will be put on by the members. If you have a project you want to share let her know. Jim Kennedy gave the treasury report. Get ready! October 015 will be here before you know it! Weʼre hoping each and every one of you will enter a quilt. We want to showcase the wide range of talents you all possess. Big quilts, small quilts, wallhangings...submit, submit, submit! You will find quilt entry forms on our website and in the newsletter. We will also bring hard copies to each meeting. Please remember to attach a photo of your quilt to And remember - we are also counting on members to provide items for the Silent Auction! (We are not collecting these items yet - but Therese will have a pledge form that you can fill out so she and Pinkie and Pat will have some idea of what they can expect.) Our show is only successful if you participate!!! So watch for sign-up sheets later in the summer...white glove, silent auction, raffle quilt table, baked goods...there will be lots of ways you can get involved. 3 April Meeting Minutes Continued from page Roberta Williams will continue with the website. More information will be put on the website. Give any information to Roberta. The password for the website will be changed in May. We will be notified by . We received a thank you note from St. Joseph Hospital neo-natal unit for the 45 quilts donated by LoveNComfort. Gerri Dietrich for membership said that 1 people have paid their dues. Dues are $ Teresa Cruz is a new member. Jadine Hilt, a new member, will be in charge of the newsletter. The new Member at Large is Arhie Theoharis. Linn Woodard and Therese Chambers reported on the quilt show. We can get in early on Friday to set up the show. Every member is expected to enter a quilt and donate to the silent auction and bake sale. Forms for quilt entries and auction items are on the website: Entries from the "Quilt in a Box" projects are desired. The challenge quilt theme is "Peaceful Moments". The distance around the quilt cannot exceed 10 inches. Later in the summer we will sign up for specific jobs during the quilt show. Sharon Timpe is Ms. Sunshine. Cards were sent to Sonja Pavlik for a broken hip and Phyllis Eisenberg who has cancer. Cards or visits would be appreciated. Our speaker today was Mickey DePre. She told us of her journey to become a quilter. We were treated to a trunk show of beautiful quilts. Some of her fabric was hand dyed by her husband. She is the author of quilting books with a new one coming out this fall. Go to her website for "free stuff": A workshop followed in the afternoon. There is a new show at the museum "In Stitches". Nancy Ware has three quilts at the museum. Jadine Hilt has a quilt in a national fabric challenge "Because of the Brave" sponsored by Moda. Vote online at: Myra VanUxem presented all of last years board members with a hand knit dishrag. Thanks, Myra. 5 It s Time for Spring Cleaning! Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts 015 Annual Rummage Sale in June! Your generous donations help sustain the museum s wonderful offerings of exhibits, classes and special events. Thank You! Put a box or a bag in your sewing room, and every time you run across something you would like to donate, toss it in. Before you know it, your studio will be organized and neat. Simply bring your box of rummage sale items to the museum during the: Rummage donation in-take days: June 9 th and June 10 th Noon - 4:00 p.m. The museum will be taking all things related to fiber art, art, crafts, and sewing and a few books. Here is the list: Fabric, wool, yarn if yardage, would be great if you measure, and label it Patterns and kits UFO s; finished fiber arts pieces; seasonal decorative items, e.g. Christmas stuff Supplies batting, threads, buttons etc. Sewing, quilting, knitting, and fiber arts tools, rulers, gadgets Books quilting, knitting, art, crafts, wool use and techniques, children s arts and crafts, cookbooks, novels related to quilting and fiber arts Children s crafting items supplies, kits, books Also, if you know anyone who might be downsizing, or cleaning out a loved one s sewing space, please ask them to box things up and save them for the museum. 6 North Shore Quilt Guild 015 Quilt Show Challenge! Let s get those creative juices flowing ladies and gentlemen the challenge for our next show is about to begin! Very few rules so let your imaginations go wild! In keeping with the title of the show Give Piece A Chance, the challenge is called Pieceful/Peaceful Moments! The only real rule is that the quilt can not be any larger than 10 in total diameter! (It can be smaller, does not have to be a square, but all sides cannot add up to any more than 10 due to space limitations.) So do you like to do paper piecing? Does a landscape quilt make you feel peaceful? Do you dream of peace in the world? Whatever this challenge might mean to you enter! 6
