7 WORKSHOP - DRAWING and/or PAINTING LAURA RABORN Shelter mixed media 2015 Happy Accidents: An Experimental Mixed Media Workshop with Laura Raborn Instructor: Laura Raborn NOW OFFERED AS 3-DAY INTENSIVE EXPERIENCE Tuition: $130 members; $163 non-members Class Code: SWA-PA-01-2 Tues, Wed, & Thurs, Sep 1, 2, & 3 10:00am - 3:00pm (With 1 hour lunch on your own.) CLASS WILL CANCEL if minimum not registered by: Aug 25 At the suggestion of students, Laura is expanding the workshop from 2 days to 3 days. This will give students more time to test new techniques and will provide more demonstration time for the multiple methods explored in this mixed media class. It will also serve as an excellent foundation for Happy Accidents Part 2 - coming this fall! Similar to the popular weekend workshop, which filled quickly in the fall and spring, students will be encouraged to explore, experiment, and focus on a layering process while creating dynamic compositions. We will use color, drawings, and high contrasts with multiple materials. One of the most rewarding lessons students learn is how to embrace imperfection or the idea of accident in their pieces. A part of Day 1 will include a brief drawing lesson suited for all levels. Then, with paint and charcoal, we will use a variety of tools (a paint brush is just one of many ways to apply paint!) to build the first layer of color, shape and pattern. We will discover multiple tricks, such as image transfer, using acrylic gel medium (a favorite tool for many artists). On Day 2, we will continue the layering of paint, adding new patterns and shapes to the compositions in an effort to selectively cover and reveal the work from Day 1. On Day 3, we will learn how to analyze successful and unsuccessful pieces, and will learn how to revive the "mistakes." All levels of art experience are welcome - though brave students who want to try new techniques will gain the most from this intense class. A Supply List will be available on the AAC website at arkansasartscenter.org/museum-school---supply-lists. COMING THIS FALL: Happy Accidents 2 7

20 LAURA RABORN Shelter mixed media 2015 Happy Accidents: An Experimental Mixed Media Workshop with Laura Raborn Instructor: Laura Raborn NOW OFFERED AS 3-DAY INTENSIVE EXPERIENCE Tuition: $130 members; $163 non-members Class Code: SWA-PA-01-2 Tues, Wed, & Thurs, Sep 1, 2, & 3 10:00am - 3:00pm (With 1 hour lunch on your own.) CLASS WILL CANCEL if minimum not registered by: Aug 25 At the suggestion of students, Laura is expanding the workshop from 2 days to 3 days. COMING THIS FALL: Happy Accidents 2 20
