1 Course: M.S. Beginning Art yearlong Austin ISD Yearly Itinerary 1 st There s a specific vocabulary for Art. Elements of Art are building blocks for creating original works. How do the art elements interrelate to make a successful artwork? How is line used to create drawings or designs? Analyze and form generalizations about the interdependence of the art elements, such as color, texture, form, line, space and value.(1b) Students will demonstrate understanding of the art elements using visual representation they create. Compare Specific artworks from a variety of cultures (3B) Looking at artwork, noticing how art elements are used in compositions. How are elements of art used to create compositions? 8 Course: Middle School Advance Yearlong Austin ISD Yearly Itinerary 1 st Artists use appropriate vocabulary when writing or speaking about art. Self expression in art allows artists to communicate individual awareness and allows for freedom of expression in response to events. 1. How are the art elements & principles of design within a composition arranged to reflect self expression? 2. What art media did you use that produced an expressive drawing with loose gestural marks? 3. Which art technique did you employ to create the illusion of spatial depth? 4. Comparing drawings and/or works of art, what differences do you see? Define a variety of concepts directly related to the art elements and principles, using vocabulary accurately. (1B) Create Artworks integrating themes found through direct observation, personal experiences and imagination. (2A) Apply design skills to communicate effectively ideas and thoughts in everyday life. (2B) The art student will: Combine drawing techniques using ink was, brush, scratchboard and mixed media (L) Apply their knowledge of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to develop, organize an artwork through direct observation, imagination, experiences and events. Drawing use learned drawing techniques: contour lines, gestural expressive lines, stippling, hatching, crosshatch, and blending marks within their composition. Develop visual concepts of personal expression within a composition. Produce drawings using a variety of art media such as; charcoal, graphite, pastels, pen & ink and color pencil. Use a medium to create drawings that show depth, spatial awareness, and proportional correctness. Options Students can recognize and use design elements and composition in a good poster design. Artists problem solve and develop methods to express their artistic visions. 1. How do art and math skills integrate when producing a work of art using linear perspective? 2. How has the invention of linear perspective influenced how artist represent architectural features in art? 3. How can artist use proportion to distort the illusion of perspective? Create artworks integrating themes found through direct observation, personal experiences, and imagination. (2A) Select appropriate art materials and tools to interpret subjects or themes when producing artwork for various methods. (2C) Identify cultural ideas expressed ijn artworks relating to social, political, and environmental themes.(3c) Students will: Explore perspective and portraiture in art.(l) Painting: continuation of color mixing /exploring tints & shades by the mixing of complementary colors (going beyond black for shade & white for tints). Become familiar with additional types of paint; Paint using acrylic and ink washes, watersoluble oil pastels, and watercolor pencils. (L), Developing brush techniques and painting techniques; glazing, opaque, impasto(l) Create collaborative and group mural art work using architectural, fantasy, and nonobjective themes. (L) 3 rd The study of ceramic arts is important to the understanding of previous civilizations throughout history. Artists use specific ceramic construction and firing techniques that are based on their knowledge of science & technology. 1. How have the findings of ceramic artworks helped archeologist understand the history of ancient civilizations? 2. Why is it important to construct ceramics using technical building skills? 3. What are the stages of clay? Select appropriate art materials and tools to interpret subjects or themes when producing art. (2C) Survey career and a vocational opportunities in art. (3A) Identify cultural ideas expressed in artworks relating to social, political and environmental themes.(3b) Analyze with the teacher or peers personal artworks in progress, using critical attributes and participate in individual and group critiques. Photography is an art medium that crosses the boundaries of fine art and commercial art allowing for multiple vocational applications. Computers and specific graphic editing software have become an integral tool that artist use to create, edit, and alter images. 1. Why does photography have compositional rules? 2. How has technology changed the accessibility of photography as an art form? 3. What are the ongoing changes in art of photography? 4. How can the use of computer software be combined with photography methods? Apply design skills to communicate effectively ideas and thoughts in everyday life (2B) Analyze which ways in which electronic media/technologies have influenced art (3A) Survey career and avocational opportunites in art (3C) Analyze original artworks, portfolios, and exhibitions by peers and others to form conclusions about formal properties, historical and cultural contexts, intents and meanings. (4B) Students will: Explore perspective and portraiture in art (L) through the use of electronic photography & digital media. Create photographs based on the compositional rules of photography; rules of third, unique angles, three dimensional, focal point and close up. Collage/photomontage/mixed media: combination of multi layer collage techniques using photographs & found imagery* Digital Photography & electronic media Access computers and digital imaging software to edit digital photography. Students will use editing software to transform digital photos into electronic media via digital imaging software such as Photoshop or GIMP. Printmaking allows artists the opportunity to communicate and distribute their artwork to more than one person. Printmaking is an art form that unites commercial design and applications with more traditional fine art decorative purposes. 1. What does printmaking allow an artist to do that few other art forms can? 2. How has printing making allowed for artist to communicate social messages? 3. Why is it important for artist to be able to create multiple series of prints within an edition? 4. What technological inventions have helped or hindered the printmaking processes? Create Artworks integrating themes found through direct observation, personal experiences and imagination. (2A) Analyze ways in which electronic media/technologies have influenced art. (3A) Apply design skills to communicate effectively ideas and thoughts in everyday life. (3B) Analyze original artworks, portfolios and exhibitions by peers and others to form conclusions about formal properties, historical and cultural contexts, intents and meanings. (4B) Students will: Produce Prints selecting one of the various printmaking methods; dry point engraving, serigraphy, linoleum cuts, woodcuts, or stencils with advanced materials. Use a wide range of materials for printing such as linoleum, plaster, Styrofoam and simple serigraphy.(l) Create an Edition of prints; accurately sign, title and number the prints and proofs. Print on various materials; paper, fabric, wood or laminate. Combine photography or drawing with their printmaking Further their print by using the chin colle process. Sculptures and Architectural structures allow for an artist or culture to visually express their ideas and beliefs. 1. Why do civilizations build monumental sculptural structures? 2. How do artist select the proper materials and tools to use when creating a sculpture? 3. What are important things to consider when displaying 3 dimensional sculptures? Define a variety of concepts directly related to the art elements and principles, using vocabulary accurately. (1A) Create artworks integrating themes found through direct observation, personal experiences and imagination. (2A) Select appropriate art materials and tools to interpret subjects or themes when producing sculptures, ceramics, fiber art (2c) Analyze original artworks, portfolios, and exhibitions by peers and others to form conclusions about formal properties, historical and cultural contexts, intents, and meanings. (4b) Students will: Create a sketch proposal of their 3 Dimensional design concept prior to constructing. Determine if their sculpture is a bas relief, high relief or in the round as they develop their sculpture proposal. Select materials that best fit their sculpture design. Mixed media, wire, wood, found objects and Paper mache with armature. Learn and apply safety skills when working with sculpture tools for the subtractive or additive processes.
