6 Tresp Athlon. The excellent mechnicl nd surfce properties of Tresp Athlon mke this pnel idel for use s wll cldding in dmp rooms, or rooms which require intensive clening. Tresp Athlon is not dverrily ffected by moisture nd is not susceptible to wethering, mould or rot. Dirt cnnot cling to the non porous surfce nd the closed core, so the mteril is esy to clen nd disinfect - even using wek solutions. Incinertion in industril furnces (temp. > 70 C) will not relese hrmful, corrosive gses nd results in n energy recovery of pproximtely 18 GJ/1,000 kg of Tresp Athlon. The pnel mteril cn be swn, routered nd drilled with the usul tools for hrdwoods. There is no requirement to finish the edges becuse of the closed, impct-resistnt core. Tresp Athlon conforms to the requirements of the FDA (Food nd Drugs Administrtion) for use in the food industry. The pnel mteril cn come into direct contct with foodstuffs during preprtion nd preservtion without ny problems. According to DIN 51953, Tresp Athlon is clssed s n ntisttic mteril. This mkes the pnel idel for pplictions in res such s clen rooms, the opticl industry nd s computer furniture. Tresp is penetrted by X-rys nd is therefore often used in the medicl nd nursing sector. Tresp Athlon is esy to instll. It cn be fixed visibly, semiblind or blind with the invisible fixing offering high pull-out resistnce. The pnel mteril does not cuse corrosion of the fixings. It mybe necessry to fit supply nd wiring systems in the wll construction. These cn be conceled behind the pnel. 6 Tresp Athlon, in combintion with suitble insulting mterils, is well suited s dividing elements in rooms which require good noise nd het insultion nd high fire resistnce. Tresp Athlon (Crystl Mtt nd Qurtz) is highly resistnt to burning cigrettes. They do not dmge the surfce nd leve no permnent mrks. The fire behviour of both types of Tresp Athlon is comprble to tht of hrdwood. The pnel mteril does not melt, drip or explode nd retins its stbility for long time. The fire resistnt type (FR) hs been clssed by severl Europen test institutes in the best clss for fire behviour of orgnic mteril. In Frnce this type hs lso been tested ccording to the stndrds NFX nd NFX for emissions of toxic nd corrosive gses. The result of these tests is the F1 clssifiction, the most fvourble clss for orgnic building mteril.

7 WALL CLADDING Chrcteristics. Tresp Athlon is often fitted s so-clled suspended cldding element. This mens tht the mteril is ssembled on supporting subfrme. The pnel is fixed visibly with screws or invisibly with the help of n luminium construction or glue on wll or structure behind the pnel. This wll or structure cn consist of timber, steel or luminium verticl nd horizontl bttens, either unfinished or finished with for instnce plsterbord, or it my be solid brick or concrete wll. The most commonly used fixing method for Tresp Athlon pnels in interior pplictions is blind fixing. The drwings opposite give generl impression of the vrious fixing methods. A. 8 Moisture regulting fixing system. Aprt from being used s wll cldding, Tresp Athlon is lso used for instlltion cldding, column cldding nd s bumper rils. Specil fixing systems for suh pplictions re shown in the relevnt drwings. The detils given re not specific, but they demonstrte the generl principle. The min detils in the following sections differentite between fully bck ventilted nd semi-seled wll cldding. The difference between the two is pprent in the verticl cross-sections. The difference in the horizontl cross-sections is simply whether or not the joints re seled with mstic. In the cse of dmp subfrmes such s new msonry, new plsterwork, dmp wlls mde of concrete, etc., extr ventiltion must be provided until the reltive moisture on both sides of the construction is equl. A. Fully bck ventilted wll cldding. The Fully bck ventilted wll cldding is distinguished by: - open floor nd ceiling connections - horizontl or verticl profiles mounted to provide spcing. B. Semi-seles wll cldding. The semi-seles wll cldding is distinguished by: - the interconnected open spce between the rer wll nd the spce bove the (system) ceiling. - the horizontl profiles mounted to provide spcing - the closed joints, e.g. ceiling nd floor connections. 9 Joints. In view of possible chnges in size s result of moisture nd temperture chnges, joints should be left free both for verticl nd horizontl connections in such wy tht the pnel mteril cn move by.5 mm/m 1 mximum. Thnks to the excellent workbility of the mteril, it is possible to precisely sel verticl nd horizontl joints without uxiliry profiles. For pnel thicknesses from 8 mm upwrds it is possible to mke joints in the form of rebted joint connections or s tongue nd groove connections. If the joints turn out to be too deep, then bcking which is ppropite for the seling mteril must first be pplied. For specific processing instructions, see the guidelines provided by the relevnt supplier. Horizontl joints Either tongue nd groove connections or rebted joint connections cn be used for horizontl joints. The joint must be mde in such wy tht the pnels cn move by.5 mm/m 1 mximum.the recess in the rebted joint must mesure t lest x the joint width. A Verticl joints The tongue nd groove connection cn be used for verticl joints. The pnel thickness left on ech side of the groove must be t lest.9 mm. If Tresp Athlon groove is used, the pnel thickness must be 10 mm. If n luminium groove is used, pnel thickness of 8 mm is sufficient. B C b Joint seling using mstic. When Tresp Athlon is used for interior pplictions where high stndrds of hygiene nd disinfection re required, wll constructions with irtight sels re often chosen. The joints re then seled with n elstic mstic. This seling mteril must be mould repellent (ISO 846) nd resistnt to disinfectnts, if it is used in the forementioned pplictions. Wht s more it is necessry for the dhesion between the seling mteril nd the pnel to withstnd drughts, dmp, dust nd dirt. It is recommended to use Tresp Athlon in combintion with silicone mstic or polyurethne. D E F 9 Importnt guidelines for pplying elstic seling mteril: The joint must be bsolutely clen, dry nd free of grese. If necessry, primer must be used to fcilitte dhesion. The seling mteril must on no ccount dhere to the reverse side (dhesion on three sides) becuse this cn cuse crcking. It is dvisble to use seprting film or polyethylene tongue. To ensure tht the seling mteril is not under excessive strin, the joint must be sufficiently wide nd the depth of the joint should not be greter thn the width of the joint. 10 Corner solutions. Flt pnel When joining Tresp Athlon pnels in corner it is importnt to tke ccount of the movement of the pnel. To void tension in the joint it is dvisble to keep the leg length of the corner element s smll s possible (t most 400 mm). A R B From pnel thickness of 8 mm upwrds, prefbricted corner elements re vilble. Adhered connections must lwys be combined with mechnicl connection. A -component polyurethne glue cn be used to dhere Tresp Athlon prts together. The prts to be dhered must hve the sme grin direction (both cut from the length or from the width of the pnel). If the solution shown in detil F is used, the outer corner must be well fceted. R R R Postforming Using the modified Tresp Athlon pnel it is possible to mke lmost unlimited individul corner solutions in vrious sizes nd rdii (R>15 mm). 11 FIXING SYSTEMS Generl guidelines Tresp is fitted to suitble subfrme with corrosion resistnts devices in such wy tht the pnels re not subjected to tension nd cnnot work loose s result. It is lso possible to vry or combine the methods. 12 Visible fixing with screws. Instlltion Visible fixing cn be used for pnels with thickness from 6 mm. Pnels with thickness of > 8 mm cn be fixed invisibly. b It is extremely importnt when fixing pnels to ensure tht they cn move freely nd evenly. The dimeter of pre-drilled holes must be t lest 3 mm greter thn the screw dimeter. Screws with countersunk heds must not be used, s they restrict the bility of the pnels to move. The screw must be properly centered in the drillholes. From pnel thickness of 8 mm upwrds, recessed screw cn be used, possibly covered with plstic cp flush with the fce of the pnel (digrm A). It is lso possible to use the quick ssembly screws designed for Tresp. The drillhole dimeter must then be 8 mm (digrm B). The screw must be perfectly centered. This is often done using thred-cutting screws, inserts nd bolts in pre-drilled hole. It is best to pre-drill using depth stop so tht residul thickness of t lest mm remins on the visible side of the pnel. Instlltion using pnel brckets nd horizontl supports b b There re vrious systems for invisibly fixing Tresp Athlon pnels. Ech one is bsed on the principle tht the pnel must be ble to move in reltion to the subfrme. These systems consist of brckets or continuous profiles fixed to the reverse side of the pnel which engge with horizontl bttens mounted on the wll. This results in n idel mechnicl connection which optimlly preserves the pnel properties. Instlltion Tresp Athlon, from pnel thickness of 8 mm upwrds, cn be fixed semi-blind with the help of n luminium joint profile in combintion with profile on which the pnel is plced nd supported. The pnel is fixed by screwing the joint profile onto the subfrme. From pnel thickness of 13 mm, the joint profile cn be covered by Tresp Athlon tongue with thickness of 3 mm. Other wys of seling the joint profile re by using rubber profile or PVC profile. 31 Applictions. Bthrooms/snitry units Tresp Athlon is well suited to newly built nd refurbished bthrooms nd snitry units. The esy processing nd fixing of the pnels men tht there is wide scope for different designs, uses nd pplictions. Due to the high rigidity nd impct resistnce of the pnel mteril, it is possible to work with reltively smll wll thicknesses of 10 to 16 mm. Height of doors must be cut from length nd not from width of pnel. Doors must be hung with min. of 3 hinges. From pnel thickness of 8 mm upwrds, Tresp Athlon cn be fixed invisibly to chieve completely smooth finish for n estheticlly plesing wll cldding. 31

33 Bumper rils. Generl Bumper rils nd pnelling usully consist of nrrow strips of wll cldding. The fixing of these nd the guidelines tht pply to this re no different from those described bove for wll cldding. Ventiltion Ventiltion The idel sitution is to leve open spce t the bottom, between the bord nd the wll.
