7 Solid-Stte Switching Devices for Resistive Lods In order to gurntee n optimized control method for different lods, the functionlity of our solid-stte switching devices cn be dpted ccordingly. The "zero-point switching" method hs proved to be idel for resistive lods, i. e. where the power semiconductor is ctivted t zero voltge. For inductive lods, on the other hnd, for exmple in the cse of vlves, it is better to go with "instntneous switching". By distributing the ON point over the entire sine curve of the mins voltge, disturbnces re reduced to minimum. Performnce chrcteristics The performnce of the solid-stte switching devices is substntilly determined by the type of power semiconductors used nd the internl design. In the cse of the SIRIUS solid-stte contctors nd solid-stte relys, only thyristors re used in plce of less powerful Trics. Two of the most importnt fetures of thyristors re the blocking voltge nd the mximum lod integrl: Blocking voltge Thyristors with high blocking voltge cn lso be operted without difficulty in networks with high interference voltges. Seprte protective mesures, such s protective circuit with vristor, re not necessry in most cses. For exmple, thyristors with 800 V blocking voltge re fitted in the devices for opertion in networks up to 230 V. Thyristors with up to 1600 V re used for power systems with higher voltges. Generl dt Mximum lod integrl Design One of the purposes of specifying the mximum lod integrl There is no typicl design of lod feeder with solid-stte relys (I²t) is to determine the rting of the short-circuit protection. Only or solid-stte contctors; insted, the gret vriety of connection lrge power semiconductor with correspondingly high I²t vlue cn be given pproprite protection ginst destruction from methods nd control voltges offers universl ppliction opportunities. SIRIUS solid-stte relys nd solid-stte contctors cn short-circuit by mens of protective device mtched to the be instlled in fuseless or fused feeders, s required. There re ppliction. However, the devices re lso chrcterized by the specil versions with which it is even possible to chieve shortcircuit strength in fuseless design. rents. All SIRIUS solid-stte switching devices re chrcterized by You cn find more informtion on the Internet t: the gret vrince of connection methods. You cn choose between the following connection methods: Screw connection Integrtion The screw connection system is the stndrd mong industril Notes on integrtion in the lod feeders controls. Open terminls nd plus-minus screw re just two fetures of this technology. Spring-type terminl connection system Prticulr ttention must however be pid to the circumstnces of the instlltion nd mbient conditions, s the performnce of This innovtive technology mnges without ny screw connection. This mens tht very high vibrtion resistnce is chieved. Depending on the version, certin restrictions must be obser- the solid-stte switching devices is lrgely dependent on these. Two conductors of up to 2.5 mm² cn be connected to ech terminl. As result, lods of up to 20 A cn be delt with. contctors bout the minimum spcing nd to solid-stte relys ved. Detiled informtion, for exmple in reltion to solid-stte Ring terminl lug connection bout the choice of het sink, is given in the technicl specifictions nd the product dt sheets. The ring terminl lug connection is equipped with n M5 screw. Ring terminl lugs of up to 25 mm² cn be connected. In this wy Despite the rugged power semiconductors tht re used, solidstte switching devices respond more sensitively to short-cir- it is possible to connect even high powers with current strengths of up to 90 A sfely. Finger-sfety is provided in this cse too with cuits in the lod feeder. Consequently, specil precutions hve specil cover. to be tken ginst destruction, depending on the type of design. Function Siemens generlly recommends using SITOR semiconductor protection fuses. These fuses lso provide protection ginst Switching functions destruction in the event of short-circuit even when the solidstte contctors nd solid-stte relys re fully utilized. Alterntively, if there is lower loding, protection cn lso be provided by stndrd fuses or miniture circuit brekers. This protection is chieved by overdimensioning the solid-stte switching devices ccordingly. The technicl specifictions nd the product dt sheets contin detils both bout the solid-stte fuse protection itself nd bout use of the devices with conventionl protection equipment. The solid-stte switching devices for resistive lods re suitble for interference-free opertion in industril networks without further mesures. If they re used in public networks, it my be necessry for conducted interference to be reduced by mens of filters. This does not include the specil solid-stte contctors of type 3RF23..-.CA.. "Low Noise". These comply with the clss B limit vlues up to rted current of 16 A. If other versions re used, nd t currents of over 16 A, stndrd filters cn be used in order to comply with the limit vlues. The decisive fctors when it comes to selecting the filters re essentilly the current loding nd the other prmeters (opertionl voltge, design type, etc.) in the lod feeder. Suitble filters cn be ordered from EPCOS AG. You cn find more informtion on the Internet t: Siemens

Design Mounting Esy snpping onto the 3RF21 solid-stte relys or 3RF23 solidstte contctors estblishes the connections to the solid-stte switching devices. Becuse of the specil design, the strightthrough trnsformer of the function module covers the lower min circuit connection. The cble to the lod is simply pushed through nd secured with the terminl screw. Function Power control The power controller sets the lod current of the solid-stte switching device depending on setpoint vlue s percentge. It does not compenste for chnges in the mins voltge or lod resistnce. The modultion, the On/Off rtio or the phse ngle, remins unchnged ccording to the setpoint vlue. The utonomous power control is performed between 0 nd 100 % of the setpoint selection. Full-wve control If the left potentiometer t R is set to 0 s (= fr left), then the power controller opertes ccording to the principle of full-wve control. The power set, be it internl or externl, is converted into pulse-width-modulted digitl signl. The power controller controls the On nd Off time of the solid-stte switching device within fixed period durtion of 1 s so tht the selected power is pplied to the lod. The "ON" LED flshes in the sme rhythm s the solid-stte switching device switches on nd off.
